Two days after the game now, and STILL no Mesa box score. Come on, MiLB.com, get off your gluteus maximus and post the box score so we can see how Guzman did.
I don't think he can be called up yet. I believe a player must remain down for at least 10 days after being sent down (unless the rosters expand before then). There is an exception that a player can be called up before 10 days to replace an injured player, but I don't know if that extends to replacing a traded player. My guess would be that Grieve comes up now and Murton returns when the rosters expand on Sept. 1.Neither of us were right. Die Hard was called up. Makes sense; the Cubs need a 3B more than an OF.
It's better because, unlike 67-72 (67 was the start of that run, not 68 ), the Cubs did make the postseason and win a series this time. However, even though it's better, it still isn't good enough.
There's a thread in another forum on this board I think you'd find amusing. I'm posting a link to that thread here, since you might otherwise be unaware of it. In a nutshell, Len Kasper recently started posting on the cubs.com message board. Very few posters believed it really was Len, because that board has a history of trolls impersonating real people. It was confirmed that it really was Len posting when he mentioned it in his WGN blog. However, before his identity was confirmed, a thread he started to express appreciation to Cubs fans was deleted by a moderator who believed it to be an imposter. Just another reason this board is so much better. We don't accuse broadcasters posting here of being imposters or delete threads that they start. :D
I don't think Murton can come back yet. When a player is sent down to the minors, he cannot come back for at least 10 days (I don't think he's been down that long yet). There's an exception where a player can come back sooner to replace an injured player, but I don't think that extends to replacing a traded player. My guess is that Grieve rejoins the Cubs bench now, and Murton comes back to sit when rosters expand on Sept. 1 (he can come back then even if it hasn't been 10 days).

He's a first ballot lock for the Simulated Hall of Fame. :D It would be hard for Hendry to fire Jim or Tammy Faye' date=' since they don't work for him. [b']Baker[/b], on the other hand, definitely should be fired. :D
I added to those posting about NSBB there (my post is currently being "held for approval"). I think it's absolutely hilarious that the Cubs' own official web site deleted his thread because a moderator thought it was an imposter. That moderator must really feel like he has egg on his face over that one. :D
No, at least five of the players he mentioned (Rusch, Borowski, Clement, Mercker, and Dempster) didn't become Cubs until Rothschild was here (Rothschild became pitching coach in 2002, succeeding Acosta).
Good idea posting a link; I forgot to do that when I started this thread. Here is a link for the College Football Pick'em contest. Both games can also be accessed from Yahoo's fantasy sports home page. They're listed under Other Games.
Good for him (especially since the problems aren't his fault in the first place). Tonight seems very much like the scheduled first night game at Wrigley (8-8-88 ). If it does get rained out, hopefully your return appearance will go off without a hitch just like the Cubs game the following night back in 88. :D
Tell me about it. We've been hyping this for well over a month now, several NSBB members contributed money toward the auction and would rightfully feel a sense of ownership of this, and we can't hear it. I'm not a happy camper.
I sent DJAXX an e-mail in case he wasn't aware of this (this was before Jon posted that the radio station was aware of the issue). I'll post here if I find anything out.
I think my realistic hopes of winning this week ended tonight. Only Lopez had a good start; Williams and Schilling were el stinko. Looks like another week where I'll wind up with a competitive point total but in a losing effort (a recurring theme with me lately).
There are several deserving candidates, but in my mind it's down to Sing or Patterson. I'd probably go with Sing just because he put up his big numbers at a higher level. If Patterson plays at West Tenn next year and puts up similar numbers I'd vote for him in a heartbeat then.
I actually have three starts tomorrow (Williams, Lopez, and Schilling's return to the rotation). It could be interesting, because both Williams and Lopez could have a great game or could get pounded, and Schilling could be iffy. How those starts go may determine the outcome of the matchup for the week. After tomorrow I only have two starts left this week (Millwood on Saturday and Lowry on Sunday). Getting the unexpected start from Sosa returning to the rotation definitely helps me (although it sure didn't help the Cubs today), but you still have one more scheduled start than I do this week. I'm still mad at Felipe Alou for stealing a complete game shutout for Lowry from me.
