  1. All too familiar. Win 10-0 one game, lose the next two games 2-1.
  2. Maybe he's practicing. Jim Bunning was a Hall-of-Fame pitcher who later became a US Senator; maybe Maddux is planning to do the same thing. :D
  3. It's not an exceptionally strong lineup, but I wouldn't categorize it as weak. There are a number of unknown factors (Pierre and Jones rebounding from off years, Lee avoiding a substantial regression, Murton and Cedeno producing for a full season), but there's potential for plenty of offense.
  4. Interesting that the Dodgers would be apprehensive, because they recently had a former pitcher that wasn't too shabby as a manager. Guy by the name of Tommy LaSorda. :D

  6. I believe that Bruce Miles said that Calvin is working in Scott Boras' office (or another agent). Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. I knew it was something baseball-related.
  7. At first I was thinking I read that he was getting into scouting or some other aspect of baseball, but the more I think about that I think that may have been Murray, not Hubbard.
  8. The politically correct term is "proven veteran." But who cares about being PC when it comes to criticizing Dusty? :D
  9. When I post it. I can't think of a better time than that.
  10. They should make that an Olympic sport. Prior, Wood, and Miller would sweep the medals. :D
  11. Treloar is a former IU assistant. He was an assistant under Knight along with Davis when Knight got fired. In fact, Treloar and Davis were considered the two candidates for what at the time was an interim coach position.
  12. http://www.c-span.org/images/special/QuayleBentsen.jpg I knew Sidney Ponson. Sidney Ponson was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Sidney Ponson.
  13. Was that the Cubs' wives charity auction? It was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 11 (the day after the game I went to), but that game was rained out. I never read whether the auction was also postponed.
  14. Bobby Douglass, Gary Huff, Bob Avellini, Jack Concannon..... :pukel:
  15. I was thinking there was one time in the late 70s that Iowa and another Big Ten (back when it really WAS the Big Ten :D ) team, perhaps Purdue, were in the Final Four. Edit: I missed the fact that the question was already answered in an earlier post. 1980 is what I was thinking of.
  16. I don't think they have to be down to 25 players until Opening Day.
  17. Statistically speaking that's true. His QB rating is higher than any Bear QB in history (including Sid Luckman). That just shows that QB rating doesn't tell the whole story.
  18. I didn't actually attend IU (it was Ball State), but I grew up an IU fan, mainly because my father wasn't a sports fan at all while my mother and other relatives on her side went to IU. My interest in Pitino is based on the magic he worked at Kentucky during and after probation, which was during and right after the time I was at UK. One rumor I've read is that it was actually Alford that refused to interview with IU. Supposedly he tole them that if they wanted him as coach they needed to make him an offer without an interview.
  19. That article said that Alford isn't going to interview for any other job either. Perhaps he's decided to stay at Iowa. As an IU fan that would make me a happy camper. I want them to hire a good coach, not an average one.
  20. Other--Rick Pitino. He's probably been at Louisville long enough that it's time for him to move on to the next challenge, and He's exactly what the Hoosiers need to get back to the top. [/wishful thinking]
  21. I don't think that would be possible. I may be wrong, but I think the collective bargaining agreement specifies Spring Training reporting dates.
  22. It wouldn't be fair to ask Vidro to switch positions because Soriano is a contract-breaching crybaby. The Nats just need to play hardball with Soriano and not pay him if he won't play where he's told to. I believe Frank Robinson is still the Nats manager, not Soriano.
  23. I thought Steve Stone and Kerry Wood each suffered from something like this before. i think stone almost died from it. I don't think it went that far (at least I never read that), but that's why he stepped away from broadcasting for awhile.
  24. Not Important Tournament No Interest Tournament.
