    He was already behind schedule in Spring Training and questionable for the start of the season due to an illness during the winter. He was then set back further due to straining a shoulder muscle in Spring Training.

    If reports are accurate, Hill will not start for Iowa tonight. He's reportedly been called up to be available for long relief for the Cubs tonight and will start Thursday night if not needed in tonight's game.

    Marshall must go long enough to save Hill. Rusch starting again the way he's pitching now simply cannot happen. It would be like forfeiting the game before it even starts. If nothing else, send somebody down (perhaps Novoa) and call up Ryu for a spot start if Hill has to pitch tonight.

    Thanks for participating on our board by answering questions. How hard of an adjustment has it been for you to convert from a position player to a pitcher? Do you feel that you've caught up yet with those who started out as pitchers? And finally, with your background as a position player, have you ever been used as a pinch hitter since becoming a pitcher?

How do you put the disappointment of being moved back a level behind you? Also, have the Cubs given you any idea what improvements to your game they want to see for you to resume upward progress?

    I remember the incident but forgot Ojeda was the third player involved. The other one killed was Steve Olin, who was the Indians' closer at the time.

    I think that sometimes people fail to realize the importance of good officials in sports until they're out on strike. One missed call can change the outcome of a game, and in the case of a very close race, the entire season. Hopefully they'll ratify the deal and be back.

    I don't think he would be able to play in an independent league. He's still under contract to the D-Rays, even though under suspension, and I think that playing in an independent league would probably be a breach of contract. He could conceivably suffer a season-ending or even career-ending injury. If it were allowed, I certainly think Josh Hamilton would be playing in an independent league.

    We're talking about a keeper league on CBS Sportsline that has several NSBB members. Tim has Billingsley in that league; I have Hamels.

    Too bad the rain wasn't heavier in Chicago. :(

    I think at least the Cubs have a pen as good as we thought they had a couple of years ago after signing Remlinger and Hawkins. We were anticipating a tough late-inning combination with Remlinger and Hawkins setting up for Borowski. Things didn't work out as planned, with Borowski and Remlinger struggling with injuries and Hawkins struggling when forced by circumstances to close instead of set up. This time, so far things have worked out as expected.
