Right. He was signed for 2004, mainly as insurance in case Grudzielanek didn't re-sign. Wasn't Grudz already signed for 2004 when Walker was signed. It's my recollection that Walker was signed to play some second, first, third, and left. the Grudz got hurt and Walker became the starter. When Grudz returned, Walker was never given any playing time at the other positions. Actually, I think you're right; I got it backwards. I think Grudz was re-signed because the Cubs didn't know at the time if they'd be able to sign Walker, and when they did sign him they'd already promised the starting 2B job to Grudz.
