  1. Hopeful, yes. But I think that's much more wishful thinking than reality. His TJS has been several years ago now; I'd think that he would have recovered by now if he's going to.
  2. That was also true for Steve Trachsel and Kyle Farnsworth during their years with the Cubs. If I recall correctly, in Saberhagen's case at least some of the down years were due to injuries.
  3. Still #57 nationally and #1 in the NSBB league after week 17. The contest is continuing into the playoffs (I'm not sure how deep into the playoffs it will continue).
  4. Sure they will. Just not while they still have any talent left. :D
  5. I'm guessing you're picking the Colts out of the AFC, you homer! :D Yep; I'm looking forward to a Bears-Colts Super Bowl. When that happens I'd be for the Bears all the way, but regardless of the outcome I'd be assured of having a team I like win the Super Bowl. Now, if I were picking with my head rather than my heart, I'd say San Diego over New Orleans (although it would be a great story if New Orleans were to win it in their first season back home after Katrina). This just seems like the Chargers' year.
  6. Da Bears!
  7. i'd take zambrano over any of those three, and that's probably what the yankees are thinking too. I dont think many would disagree, but that still doesnt mean they have to trade Johnson. You can say that again (oh, wait; you DID say that again). :D
  8. This just as easily could have been Moises Alou's resolution.
  9. Everything seems fine now.
  10. The same thing happened to me on one page. I determined the problem is a specific member's avatar (a similar issue occurred with another member's avatar several months back). I sent a PM to the member asking him to fix it.
  11. Former Cub outfielder Bobby Murcer will undergo surgery for a brain tumor. Murcer was once expected to become the next Mickey Mantle when he came up with the Yankees. He was traded to the Giants for Bobby Bonds, then later traded to the Cubs (along with Steve Ontiveros) for Bill Madlock. The article I saw didn't say if the tumor is malignant or not.
  12. I had one negative week myself (-265 in week 9), and I only got 5 points in week 6. Considering that I'm in the top 60 nationally even with those two weeks, it would be interesting to know how high I would have been without those weeks.
  13. With one week remaining, I'm #57 out of 10,031 nationally and #1 by a huge margin in the NSBB league. It looks like there are only three of us still active in the NSBB league.
  14. In other words, a typical Cubs acquisition.
  15. I grew up north of Chicago, therefore the Bears were my first team (and will always be number 1 with me). We moved to Indiana when I was in high school and I was still living there when the Colts moved to Indianapolis, so I started following the Colts as well (even more so since Manning's been there). And finally, I moved to North Carolina a year before the Panthers started. I usually go to one of their games each year. So although three favorite teams may be a bit much, there's a real reason for each one.
  16. The Bears' winning is a must. That's one of the things that must happen for my third favorite team (Panthers) to also make the playoffs. They have to win, with the Giants and Packers both losing. If that happens all three of my favorite teams (Bears, Colts, and Panthers, in that order) will make the playoffs two years in a row. As long as the Bears win, I don't mind if Favre has a good game to go out on. Especially if the Bears rest their defensive starters some and he does it against reserves.
  17. I believe it was his wrist.
  18. he also died early, thus "human interest" points. That wasn't a factor. His election to the Hall was five years before he died.
  19. I really don't think so. He definitely is without question. Over 560 career home runs, seven years of 40 or more (including two years with 56), and a career batting average just over .290. He's a first ballot lock.
  20. What's new is that, for once, he was injured during the off-season rather than during the season. It isn't, so off to Baseball Discussions. Maybe it would have been if it were during the season, since placing a player on the DL is considered a transaction.
  21. OK, you can come back from la-la land any time now. :D If we faced the first stringers, we would have NO chance at all. I think the first game of the season indicated that. I think we definitely have improved since then, but we'd probably still lose by 2 TD's. But if the Bears are smart, they would more than likely rest most of their starters by the 2nd quarter and all of their starters by the start of the 2nd half. I don't think it's THAT much of a stretch  Point conceded. The Packers' starters may have a fighting chance against the Bears' reserves.
  22. OK, you can come back from la-la land any time now. :D
  23. Miguel Tejada and 5th round draft pick from Galesburg Hand Sanitizers to NC Cubbies for 1st round pick (#3 overall).
  24. :pigfly:
  25. You're not in la-la land. That was discussed, but decided against. I think not adding the second utility spot was part of the process of evening out the pitching and hitting points.
