  1. That would have been the poll for Super Bowl XX, not XLI.
  2. You're just the opposite of me (the Bears are my favorite team and the Colts 2nd).
  3. Da Bears!
  4. Some interesting similarities I've thought of between the Bears' two Super Bowl seasons: 1985 was the second consecutive division championship after several years with no playoff appearances. 2006 was the second consecutive division championship after several years with no playoff appearances. Super Bowl XX was played in New Orleans. The Bears beat New Orleans to advance to Super Bowl XLI. The Bears' coach in 1985 had a five-letter last name (Ditka). The Bears' coach in 2006 has a five-letter last name (Smith). The Bears' quarterback in 1985 had a three-letter first name and a last name ending in "n" (Jim McMahon). The Bears' quarterback in 2006 has a three-letter first name and a last name ending in "n" (Rex Grossman). A member of the Bears' coaching staff in 1985 was a player on the previous Bears' championship team (head coach Mike Ditka was a tight end on the Bears' pre-Super Bowl era NFL championship team in 1963). A member of the Bears' coaching staff in 2006 was a player on the previous Bears' championship team (defensive coordinator Ron Rivera was a linebacker on the 1985 Super Bowl team). Let's see Fred Hornkohl top this in terms of meaningless stats. :D
  5. Not based on my interpretation of the statement on nfl.com.
  6. I think they actually pick 30th as the conference championship game loser with the worse record. Nfl.com shows them 25th, but with an asterisk indicating that the actual position depends on the playoffs. EDIT: Actually, I think they're 27th. If I'd read the explanation at the top of the page I would have seen that playoff teams other than the Super Bowl teams stay in order based on record. They'd fall behind the other 10-6 teams because they advanced farther, but they're still ahead of teams with better regular season records.
  7. I had to bust OleMiss's chops a little after our exchange earlier in the week. :D
  8. I'm probably not going to keep it for too long, but I had to give you a bit of a hard time after our exchange earlier in the week. :D
  9. If he's not expected to go until near the end of the draft, why would the Saints waste a first round pick on him? :D
  10. The Bears have two Mannings, the Colts only one. :D
  11. I agree. I plan to put my money where my mouth is when designating my Roadkill keepers. :D
  12. Although the Bears are my favorite team, the Colts are my second favorite and I loved this game. I thought it was over near the end of the first half, but the long drive before halftime gave me hope even though it only resulted in a field goal. The second half was the best I've seen the Colts look in a long time. Hopefully the critics that say Manning can't beat New England in the postseason will shut their mouths now. Although I have to root for the Bears in the Super Bowl, I won't be at all disappointed if the Colts win. More than anything else I'm looking forward to a Super Bowl that lives up to the hype regardless of who wins. I see this matchup as a win-win situation for me. :D
  13. As undoubtedly will be this thread. Probably by tomorrow. :D
  14. Now it's the only thread. :D
  15. The Bears are my favorite team and the Colts my second favorite. I'm a happy camper today.

no, once a player has 1 major league ab his exemption clock starts. How about zero at-bats, but 1 plate appearance (like Adam Greenburg)? :D
  18. The Colts. They're my second favorite team behind the Bears.
  19. You now have one less offer out. :D It would really help if Sportsline notifies you by e-mail when you get an offer the same as Yahoo does. It just doesn't occur to me that often during the offseason to check to see if anybody's offered me a trade. Man, I traded a lot. But I had to. Couldn't keep all those guys. what a trade I think Hamels is going to be a good one (he had a great rookie season last year), but Webb is one of the best and still very young. With Webb and Liriano I have the beginning of a great rotation for 2008 and beyond.
  20. Even before Lou was hired, Bruce had reported that Dusty didn't listen to Larry. I think Dusty saw Larry as an evil that was forced on him; he would have preferred to have Dick Pole as pitching coach.

That's my understanding too. I believe his three exemptions would have been following the 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons, since he did play some at the major league level each year. I believe that a year counts toward the three exemptions if a player plays at the major league level at all.
  23. There's no set date for that. It has to be late enough that he isn't in the top 17% of rookies in terms of service time, but that date isn't actually known until the end of the season. If you actually meant the free agency clock (rather than arbitration), I believe it is 170 days a player must spend on the major league roster for that year to count, so to postpone the clock the team would need to send him down long enough that there's fewer than 170 days remaining when the player is called up (as the Cubs did with Wood in 1998).
  24. This is Suarez (early commercial from the Geico series): Manager: "Suarez, I have some good news. I'm taking you out." Suarez: "I thought you said you had some good news." Manager: "I did. I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. Give me the ball." OK, I realize that's a different Suarez. :D
