  1. Oregon State began defense of their national championship in style. They beat Hawaii-Hilo 5-0 on a combined no-hitter by four pitchers. The only other no-hitters in school history were in 1947 and 1967. Must be something about years ending in "7." :D
  2. Don't forget Estes and Rnez. :D
  3. The question was raised in the thread in the Minor League forum too, and I gave basically the same response. I believe they had to give him a major league contract in order to go multi-year; I don't think you can do that with minor league contracts.
  4. You mean this thread isn't about Earl Weaver coming out of retirement to manage Seattle? :D
  5. "Bears Win Super Bowl Despite UnBEARably Bad QB Play"
  6. When the Bears were conducting the head coach search that ultimately resulted in hiring Mike Ditka, Halas made it clear that whoever was hired had to be willing to work with Buddy Ryan as defensive coordinator. Similarly, when the Cubs hired Dusty as manager it was clear that whoever was hired would have to accept Rothschild as pitching coach. It may be similar with the Cowboys; the new head coach may not have any choice but to work with Garrett.
  7. Some people refer to him as arthritic piece of crap.
  8. Too bad for Rusch. I wasn't as down on him as many people were. He had one good, one decent, and one horrible year for the Cubs. All in all not bad, although Hendry definitely goofed by giving him the multi-year contract after 2005. I blame Hendry for that, not Rusch.
  9. Quite possibly. I was thinking more in terms of the NSBB crowd.
  10. You wouldn't want to experiment with him playing QB, but the Super Bowl is as good a game as any to throw a player like Hester into an offensive play or two. William Perry endorses this message That's not the same. Perry had already been used on offense several times during the regular season, so it's not like they were experimenting in the Super Bowl. Hester has been used on offense this season too. When? I know at least in the Tampa game(I only remember because Barber jumped his slant route and almost got a pick). That might've been the only game though, since I don't think he got any actual touches against TB. I must have missed that. I was flying home from Indiana that day and saw a part of the game while waiting for my flight, but that must have been during the part of the game I missed.
  11. Considering the immature nickname that some people have been childishly using for him ever since the trade last year, I think Izturis already has a leg up on the competition. If he has a bad enough year, though, Marquis may be able to catch up and pass him.

  13. I believe he received a major league contract, which means automatically that he has to be added. I don't believe there are multi-year minor league contracts.
  14. I think he'd have to be carried on the DL rather than released for insurance to cover it. That's why, several years ago, the Orioles kept Albert Belle on the DL rather than releasing him (or him retiring) even though it was known he couldn't play anymore.
  15. Yes. They have to keep him at all costs and I think they know that.
  16. Definitely. They were clearly the best teams in the league the first half of the season, being the last two teams in the league to lose. Both slipped a bit in the second half (the Colts a bit more so), but they both put it back together when it came down to crunch time. I can't wait for this game. For once I'll actually be more interested in the game than the commercials. :D
  17. Both championship games are scheduled to be aired several times over the upcoming days. Since I'm a fan of both teams I definitely plan to watch both replays, even though I saw the games live.
  18. You KNOW he isn't ready, Outshine. I rather him have two great months (April/May) in AAA, before I want him in Chicago. If one knows that Pie isn't ready, one knows even more that Walker and Fuld aren't ready. They can't even be a consideration.
  19. This is the first time I recall both teams giving up a PTBNL in a trade.
  20. Cool. Now why would the Bears grant the cowboys permission? They would be stupid to. Lovie and Angelos are on the same page when it comes to talent. Jones is a freaking moran when it comes to talent. It would depend on whether or not the Bears are going to offer a lucrative extension for Lovie, or if they feel they could get a nice compensation package for allowing him to go to Dallas. If Lovie doesn't get his contract extension, he's a lame duck coach next year, and that hardly ever goes well... I think there's virtually no chance that the Bears don't extend Smith. He's the best coach they've had in years. He goes from a losing season to the Super Bowl in two years. If he isn't extended Angelo may as well resign because otherwise I think he'd be rightfully lynched.
  21. That's disappointing. He was trying to rebound after a bad season, and then when he gets hurt he doesn't do what he's told he needs to do to get healthy. :(

I'm positive that was the case. I didn't intend for my question to be taken seriously, hence the use of the smiley icon.
  23. That was Ceda, if I recall.
  24. Which I've heard is significantly better than being a tool you can't teach.
