  1. IAL In After Lock. :D IWAL (in way after lock) :D
  2. Most leagues start right on Opening Day, but some late-forming leagues start later (the start of the season is one of the settings that the commissioner chooses). Since the season doesn't start until early April there's about a month and a half window to form leagues and still be ready to start on time. I think it's better to form leagues as early as possible because that gives you more flexibility for selecting a draft time. Since you're forming a league (I saw the other thread you started) a good way for you to learn about some of that would be to set up the league as soon as possible, then you can look at the commissioner tools to see what all you can do as far as league settings are concerned. Once you've set up the league you can either post the registration information in this forum or else ask interested people to respond but send the actual information out via e-mail or PM. If you post the information here anybody can join and once the maximum number of teams (which you as commissioner set) is reached the league will be full. If you want some control over who joins the league, as opposed to first-come, first-served, you might be better off sending out the registration information (league ID and password) by e-mail or PM. Keep in mind that if you open the league to anybody there may be people joining who aren't even NSBB members but just lurk without posting.
  3. I'll send everyone a pm with the League ID & password. You'll need a Y! account, if you don't already have one. We still need to figure out what type of draft to have. Live online (where you can be there in person or just preset your rankings) or offline. I'm fine with either, though if we do live online, it could take a long time to draft 250 or so players. On the other hand, as anyone who has been following the other fantasy league draft on nsbb knows, if you do offline in baseball, you'll probably have a couple people pick a player that's already been taken. I'll see what the options are for live online drafts tomorrow. If we can do it online through Y! but over a few days rather than try to hammer it out in a few hours, that might be best. I can't see how it would take you more than 2, 2 1/2 hours at the absolute very most to pick your players in a 10 team league-just letting you know so that you have more information when trying to decide what type of draft to have. I've been in a 16-team league the past several years and the live draft has taken no longer than a couple of hours. It goes quicker than one might think. There's usually a time limit for making each pick, and those who are actually online participating (as opposed to having their teams autodrafted based on prerankings) frequently take less than the allowable amount of time because they frequently already know who they want when their turn comes. I've never participated in an offline draft before, but I'd think an online draft would be much quicker.
  4. Only with the Cubs could this happen.
  5. That comment reminds me of the cubs.com days (before it went downhill) when Ernie59 and ZipDog kept going back and forth about age.
  6. It would take the Cubs actually making the playoffs. :D
  7. Newbie! I've been watching since 1969. :D
  8. If not, there will probably be other leagues started by NSBB members. There usually are a number of them each year; you can keep an eye out in this forum for people posting about starting leagues.
  9. About a year ago I discovered a site, The Boys of Spring, devoted specifically to Cubs Spring Training. That site currently has pictures of renovations at Hohokam Stadium.
  10. Just FYI, Yahoo requires all H2H leagues (if that is what you decide to go with) to have an even number of teams. Otherwise one team wouldn't have an opponent each week.
  11. I'll say July 3 at Washington. He'll have his fireworks one night early.
  12. So good that he warranted an "s" at the end of his name from you (his name is Richard). :D He was very good. I believe he won 18 games one year and was considered one of the best (if not the best) young pitchers in the game. I think everybody had him pegged as a future Cy Young Award winner.
  13. I hear that he's rather evil, though.
  14. I'd be willing to trade Santana for Santana. :D
  15. We don't have that problem anymore. :D
  16. Yes. Hendry's always been able to re-sign the free agents he's wanted to. It may mean too many years and too much money, but one way or another he'll get it done.
  17. Aunt Florence and Mr. Rawlings agree.
  18. NCCubFan agrees. :D
  19. Exactly. Expect the worst, hope for the best.
  20. OK, let's not get personal here. No need to be insulting back and forth. Differences in opinion can be handled civilly.
  21. touche. i have a feeling i'll end up with one of the guys i dropped. though i doubt vlad lasts to #3. i'll take either the best OF or best SP available. i'm still trying to figure out how i feel about matsuzaka. i pick three times before that...burrell won't be there at #25. the draft isn't as deep as i thought it would be. Once the last few teams make their drops, there should be plenty of decent players to draft. only three teams left to drop, and it doesn't look like any of them are going to have trouble keeping their best players. this draft looks a little deeper than last year's, but i feel like there are less top guys this year. last year there was sheff, jeter, dunn, rj, giambi, webb, smoltz, lackey...this year it's vlad, a few #2-3 type starters and a bunch of question marks. looking at that list from last year, there would seem to be quite a few disappointments out of that "elite" group. And I had two of them. :( One of them courtesy of me. :D
  22. For me, you'd know the answer to that question better than I would. :D
  23. only if he has never exceeded the limits (10 starts or 25 appearances). But he would be eligible to go back on the minor league roster once the season begins if he is actually sent back to the minors in real life. At least I hope my understanding is correct, because I may be in that situation with Angel Guzman. :D
