  1. He's all for advocating DirecTV's high bid to woo exclusive rights to MLB Extra Innings but he admonishes individual teams for outbidding other teams for players? That seems hypocritical. Hypocrite is $elig's middle name. :D
  2. The Marlins seemed to think otherwise. I believe this was the move that sealed his fate.
  3. It could happen; the Tigers did it last year.
  4. What the Reds are doing reminds me of a fantasy owner that screws up the league by snatching all of the talent at a specific position. I don't think it happens very often, but I've heard of it happening occasionally.
  5. I don't think I would. I'd likely take Fielder over Sexson and maybe Furcal over Rentaria if everything were equal, but I don't think the difference is nearly enough to be worth giving up one of the top closers.
  6. I think there's a good chance some people will want to do more than one (I'll probably join yours myself even though I already started one). Since Yahoo allows you to have five different brackets this year, but only one in a single group, joining more than one allows someone to increase their chances of winning one of them since they can submit different picks for each.
  7. Premium Non-premium There's no reason a person can't join both, since you can have up to five brackets this year.
  8. http://www.boysofspring.com/journal/Murton.jpg Matt Murton goes yard.
  9. Cubs trade Jones, Moore, Marshall, and Eyre, and get Arod? Sign me up. :D
  10. My understanding is that he's hit at least 94 on a number of occassions. My understanding is that his fastball is pretty fast, and that he had a number of games in which he was throwing 90-94 quite regularly. I think there may be many others where he throws more in the 88-91 range. But, as always it depends on what you're trying to do. An 88-91 2-seam sinker that's located well is a really good fastball. A lot more useful than a 93-96 four-seamer that's straight and wild. Which relates to one of my beliefs about Gallagher. I think he's a smart pitcher who pitches for wins and for outs. I imagine he does a lot of pitching in the 88-92 range to get outs. I imagine he could let it fly and throw for the radar records, but that it wouldn't necessarily help him get outs. I think a lot of pitchers are routinely choosing between throwing as fast as they can, versus throwing for outs. Give up a mph or two for command. Every 2-seam fastballer in baseball knows he could throw faster with 4-seam. Quoting and thanking yourself, huh? :D
  11. Since Soriano was a free agent in real baseball he may have been in the keeper league as well. Not all keeper leagues work the same; with some, a team loses the player in the keeper league when the player becomes a free agent in real baseball.
  12. The fact that marginal major league players have been superstars in Japan (see: Rhodes, Tuffy) proves that Japanese baseball isn't quite major league quality. Therefore, Japanese imports really are in their first major league season. (Note to 1908: I'm not meaning to diss Japanese baseball with my comments. :D )
  13. My e-mail to the Hall: And the response I got:
  14. http://www.boysofspring.com/journal/fergie5.jpg Fergie Jenkins throwing out the first pitch for the Spring Training opener http://www.boysofspring.com/journal/fergie6.jpg Fergie with Jake Fox
  15. I think Norm Charlton, Randy Myers, and Rob Dibble might disagree with you. Who was the manager of that Reds team that used this approach? That's right, it was some guy named Lou something. I don't remember Lou Boudreau managing the Reds.
  16. The media guide can be ordered by calling the Cubs' merchandise department (1-800-248-9467), even though it won't be available until next week (I believe it's usually available at Spring Training before it is through the merchandise department). The cost is $21.95 including shipping (I may be slightly off, but I know it's close to that at least). That seems a bit higher than in past years, but it still seems well worth it.
  17. You can preset your player rankings. Whether you can come into the draft after a few rounds, I don't know. I'm sure you can. I've been in some drafts where some members had to be late and took over from the autodraft once they arrived. Basically, autodraft kicks in after the time limit expires without a pick being made.
  18. That was against the Yankees because he knew Yankee Stadium.
  19. I predict you'll be enjoying crow at the end of the season. They won't suck.
  20. Watch your language. Using wild card characters is considered the same as typing the word.
  21. You'd go with NSBB member guidelines? :D
  22. Pitcher Matt White of the Dodgers could become baseball's first billionnaire player, and it would have nothing to do with his pitching.
  23. Macias, Rnez, Neifi, Damian Jackson, Enrique Wilson, not exactly the best infielders around.
  24. So you consistently misspell "consistently" as "consistantly."
  25. Them's fighting words.
