  1. The "he" is Hampton. Texas was jokingly saying that Hampton would fit in with the Cubs.
  2. Salted veal, with pie for dessert. Sounds like a good meal. :D
  3. The hotel list (first post in this thread) has been updated for 2007 based on information from the Cubs media guide. I bolded changes from last year. The thread is moving back to Baseball Discussions as a sticky for the season. At the end of the season it will go back into hibernation in the FAQ forum.
  4. My bad. Won't happen again. Not a problem. Is there a link to a web site for this article? If so, people can read the entire article at the source site without running afoul of copyright issues.
  5. It was hard not to root for Buckner because of the way he played hard despite constantly being in pain. Bill Mueller seemed very similar in that regard.
  6. I remember that situation well, although some of the details had escaped me. I remember Green losing out in a power struggle, but I'd forgotten that Vuckovich was going to be named permanent manager. That was a very bad move by the Trib despite the 1989 division title, because Green had done a good job of rebuilding the farm system and I believe most of that progress was undone during the Frey regime.
  7. Wanna give me a quick answer to where they are staying at in Arlington, TX? Four Seasons (972-717-0700). Also, when I edit it I'll move it back to Baseball Discussions for the season, since that's where people will probably think to look. Thanks to Serena (er, Laura :D ) for that suggestion.
  8. Steve Phillips would have done that trade. Too bad he isn't there anymore.
  9. I got my copy today. As in the past it includes road hotel information. I'll update that information in the FAQ forum within the next couple of days.
  10. I still remember being upset when the Cubs traded Madlock for Murcer and Ontiveros because they were unwilling to pay Madlock what a two-time defending batting champion deserved. And if I remember, they then turned around and paid Murcer more than they were willing to pay Madlock. That may not have been as bad as the Brock for Broglio trade, but it was certainly one of the bad trades.
  11. He also had a short stint as Cubs interim manager (two games in 1986, after Jim Frey was fired and before Gene Michael took over).

  13. Zero actually. The Saints also got their MLB Brian Simmons out of FA. He also had no arrests. The Saints are single handedly taking all their good boys away from them. That must be why the Bengals let them walk. They just didn't fit in.
  14. I think that's been his nickname for quite some time, not one Len came up with. He was referred to by that nickname on this board at least for the last couple of years.
  15. Since he was with the Bengals, the key question is how many arrests he's had. :D
  16. Otherwise known as a AAAA player.
  17. Freudian slip?
  18. Greene is always hurt. He makes incredible defensive plays when he's in there, but his defense isn't nearly as impressive when he is out with an injury. Come on, I bet he's NEVER made an error when he's out with an injury.
  19. Rather than getting my hopes up I'm assuming it won't happen and let it be a pleasant surprise if it does. Therefore I answered no.
  20. IMO, they are largely overblown. I think he had a bad week and a half stretch where he had multiple error games, but was fine before and after. One of those games was a game I went to at Carolina. I believe he had three errors total that game, including two in one inning. I think it was rather ironic that on the day this question was asked he commits 2 errors. Maybe he reads this board and this thread got in his mind. :D

  23. The ONLY way this makes sense to me is if they're only planning to do that for a short period of time until Miller proves that he's back and builds some trade value, much like last year when the Angels sent Jered Weaver back down when Jeff Weaver came off the DL until they found a taker for Jeff. Even then, if the Cubs are truly trying to win this year they need to put the five best starters in the rotation rather than worrying about who has the highest salary or who has options left.
  24. For this year I'm hoping for Wood to be a dominant closer. Beyond that, it depends on his health and the needs of the team. I just hope that whatever his role is he's doing it with the Cubs.
  25. I don't think I would. I'd likely take Fielder over Sexson and maybe Furcal over Rentaria if everything were equal, but I don't think the difference is nearly enough to be worth giving up one of the top closers. He would be getting F Rod. Ah, I thought it was the other way around. That I'd likely do, depending on who else I had on my team.
