  1. Just so I don't feel left out. :D 14 teams, head-to-head, standard 5 X 5 categories. I drafted 10th/5th. 2. The hackers took your posts and gave them to people like Raisin, Jon, and Vance.
  3. Group A: Howard -> Alex Rodriguez Group B: Soriano, Ramirez (hey, I'm trying to be optimistic this year :D ) Group C: Guerrero, Fielder, D. Lee Group D: Tejada, Gonzalez, Crawford, Markakis, Matsui -> JD Drew Wild Card: Andy Marte -> Hanley Ramirez First Half Transactions:
  4. But each time you reread a book you pick up on something you missed the previous time.
  5. Free throw shooting also cost Xavier a win over Ohio State. If Xavier had hit both free throws with 10 seconds left they would have been up by 4, and unless they would have been stupic enough to foul OSU in the act of shooting they would have won. But that's how it frequently is in close games, one play making the difference.
  6. Fixed. :DOops. :( At least IU showed they can compete with top teams. It would have been nice to have seen how the game would have turned out if IU had been able to successfully inbound the ball after the UCLA free throws near the end.
  7. Release him, probably not. Send him to the minors, I think he might. He traded Aardsma to get Cotts; it's not like he traded an all-star or a can't-miss prospect.
  8. Not who, but what. It's what you do in order to build a fire. :D
  9. This isn't cubs.com; you can say Dick without working around it. :D
  10. Fixed. :D
  11. In this group I'm 13-3 in the first round, tied for 7th (picked Duke, George Washington, and Texas Tech). In Derwood's group I'm also 13-3 but tied for 6th (picked Duke, Marquette, and BYU). And in Tim's group I'm 14-2, tied for 2nd (picked Davidson and Texas Tech). I correctly picked the Duke upset in that group.
  12. He was Commissioner when I first started following baseball (1969). What I remember him for most is voiding a couple of A's deals when Charlie Finley was trying to dismantle the team after winning three World Series in a row. That's the first time I'd seen the "best interests of baseball" concept used.
  13. That's actually an interesting question. As far as I know, there's no precedent for somebody getting a lifetime ban AFTER being elected to the Hall. My feeling is that, if a lifetime ban means being ineligible for the Hall, that should also apply if the player was elected before the ban. I don't know if it would work that way, though.
  14. At this point, it's a battle between Perez and Cedeno. Of course, the Cubs could make a deal late. I'm sure you guys remember they got Freddie Bynum at the end of spring last year. You do remember, right? :D I more fondly remember getting Gary Matthews and Bob Dernier in Spring Training in 1984. :D
  15. Love the jab at Dusty. It's comforting to know that we're not the only ones who detest(ed) his managerial style. Talk to most fans from SF, they knew it too! When Dusty was hired several Giants fans posted on cubs.com (that was before NSBB was born) warning us about Dusty. Very few Cub fans posting there believed them, since the Giants had just come off a World Series appearance. I think most of us thought they just had sour grapes. It turned out they were right all along.
  16. you'd have to pry him from Bowden's cold, dead hands If he were with the Reds instead of Nationals he'd be available in exchange for a bullpen arm. :D
  17. He actually came back fairly well in 1969 after his first knee injury, but when he was injured again in 1970 he wasn't able to come back at any level of effectiveness (he played in two games each in 1970 and 1971, with less than 100 yards total and less than 3 yards per carry each year). It would have been nice to see what he could have been if only he played 10 or 20 years or so later, with substantial improvements in knee surgery. Randy Hundley is another player who was never the same after injuries.
  18. They certainly would consider it if they have the opportunity to acquire him and he'd fit in better in the outfield rather than infield. Just because you're happy with what you currently have doesn't mean you couldn't be even happier with an upgrade.
  19. He rushed for over 1,000 yards his first three seasons (back when that was meaningful because the season was only 14 games), then nearly 900 his 4thseason (a good total back then), but never even reached 500 yards in a season after that. John Brockington
  20. True. How about Anthony Thomas to a lesser extent? Didn't he win ROY? Barely hear his name anymore. Rashaan Salaam was another example. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in his rookie season but barely over 600 for the entire rest of his career (which was only two more seasons).
  21. Who cares what Paris thinks? I want to know what Sheraton thinks.
  22. The rest of the team scored negative runs. Maybe the opposite of Izturis driving in runs with his glove.
  23. I beat you to these (by a few days) :D
