    He was signed to play outfield. It may have been with the intention of playing right, but I'm sure it was understood all along that it was subject to change depending on whether Pie was ready. All along the plan was for Murton/Floyd in left field, but I remember discussion of who among Soriano and Jones would play right and who would play center if Pie wasn't ready.

    Good question. I'd try, but have no idea where to start. :D Research past playoff history on MLB.com. Look at game 3's for the past 5 years, and let us know what % of those who won game 3 won the series ;-). I looked at the last two years out of curiosity. In 2006 the game 3 winner ultimately won 6 of the 7 postseason series (the St. Louis vs. San Diego NLDS was the exception). And in 2005 the game 3 winner won all 7 series. So that's a 13-1 record for game 3 winners.

    I believe that was with our matchup. That was also the start of my three-game losing streak.

    Not necessarily true. Like you said we'll never know, but since the Marlins and Cubs were the hottest teams in the second half of the season, they could have still won the first round series even if the opponents were reversed. And if they would have won the NLCS matchup would have still been the same.

    That rule actually worked out to the Cubs' advantage in 2003. As the third seeded division champion the Cubs should have played the second seeded champion (Giants). But because the top seed (Braves) and wildcard (Marlins) are in the same division the Cubs had to play the top-seeded Braves instead. And we all know how that turned out. Despite that, however, I do agree with your assessment of the rule. It penalizes teams by making them play a higher seed than they should. It worked out for the Cubs in 2003, but it may not next time.

    Yikes; I hadn't heard that. What happened? I went through the I-Cubs game notes back to July 4 and all they had was The I-Cubs roster shows him on the 7-day DL. Maybe the knee injury was worse than initially thought. Perhaps it was first thought to be a strain but an MRI showed a more significant tear.

    He just wasn't any good...that's all right? He wouldn't be on the minor league DL just for not being very good.

    I've never been in a Yahoo league where you can trade draft picks (I think it would have been easier for them to just trade the players after the draft). I'm in a CBS Sportsline keeper league where you can trade draft picks, but they're usually traded before the draft; therefore it doesn't slow the draft down.

    I don't think it worked out that bad for the Cubs. Durham was a starter on the 1984 division championship team, and Sutter was ably replaced with Lee Smith. It was the later trade of Lee Smith for basically nothing that was the real fleecing. Al Nipper Calvin Schiraldi weren't "basically nothing". They were a strong negative. :lol:

    I'll predict a sweep in Cincinnati and 2 of 3 from the Mets; the rest I agree with your picks. If I'm right that would be 14-6 over the stretch (consistent with what they've been doing lately) and 65-51 overall.

    Assuming Conine isn't signed through next year, this would be a solid way to get rid of the committment to Jones in 2008 and fill the RH bench need. I don't think this would be viewed as a way to solve RF. Assuming Baltimore is happy with a marginal Cubs prospect, I could see the value in such a deal. conine's a red. Just figured that one out. Point still stands, though I'm not sure Cincy would be as willing to take back Jones. Maybe they'll take Eyre, though, since they love relief pitchers. :D

    Yes, overwhelmingly (44%). More votes for relief pitching than the next two combined.
