  1. I'm not sure if he was referring to Modzilla or Soriano12 that way. But either way, this isn't exactly what we had in mind when restoring the thread.
  2. The Cube still lists his position as catcher. BTW, note who's sponsoring his page on the Cube. :D Incorrectly, apparently  I think that's the Cube's doing, not mine. And they also screwed up the link to NSBB, although for the life of me I can't figure out why it makes a difference. I thought letter case in URL's didn't matter; however, if the word "Forum" in the address has a small, rather than capital, F you get the dreaded "page cannot be displayed" error.

  4. Don't let Jim Hendry find out about this. :D
  5. It's not just those in the St. Louis area that had to suffer; those of us watching the game on Extra Innings also got the Cardinals telecast. :( Personally, I think if you're paying to watch the games you should be able to choose either team's telecast, much like you can with Gameday Audio or, I believe, XM.
  6. I've fallen to #614. Dmitri Young is killing me; an All-Star on a Hacking Mass team isn't good. I think 1B is really the most challenging position. Since it's where a lot of teams put good hitters that can't play anywhere else, most teams have at least a decent 1B, so it's hard to find one that sucks enough to be a good Hacking Mass choice yet still gets the playing time needed.
  7. Ah; my sarcasm detector doesn't function too well when it's around 2:00 A.M. :D
  8. Oh, give me a break. There's way too many comments about Prior's toughness to start with. We don't need them to spill over into threads not even about him.
  9. OK, as promised this thread has been cleaned up and reinstated. However, to reiterate Laura's warning in another thread, there will be ZERO TOLERANCE for any more disintigrating into personal bickering that occurred in this thread and its predecessor. Anybody who participates in turning this back into a pissing match, regardless of whether they start it, will get to know Modzilla up close and personal.
  10. Um, this is tomorrow's thread. :D
  11. No, but we made another one after (Simon).
  12. I still remember the lengthy Brown vs. Patterson debate on cubs.com (before NSBB existed).
  13. All in all, an encouraging outing for Veal. He needed one after only lasting an inning last time out.
  14. anybody else heard this? Or is it possible that CSN reported wrong that Fox was demoted instead of Moore? If fox is demoted as well I would have to imagine Murton has been called back up. Either that or a trade. The article in the Trib also said Fox was the one likely to go down. As did their online article on chicagosports.com. The latest ESPN 1000 update still says Levine is reporting Moore being sent back down. The chicagosports.com article says Fox will "likely" be sent down; that could be the writer's speculation as opposed to actual knowledge. Moore does make more sense to me in light of Lou's comments about Fox when he was called up. I gather the move hasn't been made official yet (it may not until right before game time), so until an official announcement comes it may just be speculation concerning who goes down.

  16. Cedeno isn't a rookie, though. He's had over a full year of major league experience, much of that as a starter. And he has had SOME success at the major league level, particularly during his 2005 callup.
  17. Isn't Garland "pitching through pain" right now? Why would anyone trade for potentially damaged goods. I doubt anyone not named Jim Hendry would give up very much for Marquis. The Cubs have a much better chance of making a noticeable upgrade in RF or CF. While I think Marquis sucks, I think hes better than Garland and he's cheaper. I'd pick Garland over Marquis. Other things being equal I'd agree. But when he's already on the team, whereas they'd have to trade for Garland, other things are not equal.
  18. I'm not saying he's likely to be an ace, or the centerpiece of a major trade. I'm simply disputing your statement that he's trash, which is definitely not supported. There's a world of middle ground between being an ace and being trash. I'm just trying to bring some perspective to this....you are not going to get a bat like Dye for a guy of Mateo's value. He may not be trash, but he isn't very good either and I think he is a 5 starter at best. Put yourself as a White Sox fan, and your team is in selling mode....and one of your biggest chips is Dye. My reaction to a Mateo for Dye trade would be that Mateo is trash compared to what we could/should get for Dye. Then you shouldn't say he's trash in the first place. You can say that he's not nearly enough to get Dye without going to the extent of calling him trash. People can't read your mind, so when you say he's trash that's what people are going to think you mean.

  20. Wow, you can't possibly be serious. He looked very good at times during his callup last year. You consider a 5+ ERA and a 1.62 WHIP very good? Re-read my bolded words. And in any case, Marshall, Hill, and Marmol are all good examples of how a player's initial stint in the majors isn't necessarily indicative of how good they can become. Greg Maddux is an even better example.

  22. I would not. I don't think Garland would be much of an upgrade over what we already have, and starting pitching is not a weakness for the Cubs. And Marmol should just continue to get better since he's still fairly new to pitching.
