  1. If the Cubs trade Pie for Laird Hendry better arrange police protection to keep him safe from the lynch mob.
  2. Tomorrow. He's scheduled to go more than one inning, which seems to be the last hurdle for him to clear before returning to the Cubs.
  3. That would be an amazing trade! I absolutely cannot buy it from the Royals' perspective (unless it's a precursor to another trade). From the Cubs' angle, sign me up.
  4. Going back to the start of the hot streak (day after Lou's ejection and suspension) I believe the Cubs have the best record in all of baseball, not just the NL. Is it fair to say that this isn't a hot streak anymore, the Cubs are just good? It has been almost 2 months. I think so; I didn't mean to imply that it was temporary with my wording. I only meant that I think they're currently the hottest team in all of baseball, not just the NL.
  5. Going back to the start of the hot streak (day after Lou's ejection and suspension) I believe the Cubs have the best record in all of baseball, not just the NL.
  6. Why? Fontenot isn't hitting right now; Theriot is. That would be a downgrade both offensively and defensively. If they want to try another shortstop there's this guy named Cedeno who, in his limited playing time since being recalled, has looked much better than before being sent down.
  7. Regardless of whether he wins the Cy Young this year I think he's a near-lock for the Silver Slugger. And knowing Z he may take more pride in that anyway. :D
  8. Very good point. I think they should actually bat Z 8th and Hill 9th.
  9. Henry Blanco is not on the 60-day DL. Hmm, you're right. For some reason I was thinking he was transferred a couple of weeks ago to make room for somebody on the 40-man.
  10. He's up because Soto has options and Hill doesn't, and Hendry doesn't want to expose Hill to waivers and losing that .167 average to another team.
  11. You'll never truly get rid of the Cubs.
  12. I think it is. Garland had a -33 when my team played Tim's. If so I at least have something to brag about. :D
  13. In the words of Slappy the Squirrel, now that's comedy! :D Good to see you posting again; it's been awhile.
  14. Link I hadn't seen this mentioned on this board. Mobile manager Brett Butler (former star outfielder for the Dodgers) suffered a mild stroke last week. Fortunately it doesn't sound too serious.
  15. Actually, two spots would need to be opened on the 40-man. Wood and Blanco are both on the 60-day DL.
  16. Marmol for Arod? Yes, in a heartbeat. Marmol for Dye? No way Jose.
  17. Somehow I squeaked out a positive total for the day despite -41.25 from Jennings. I wonder if that's the all-time record for worst single day performance.
  18. I was thinking an additional year was added before a player has to be promoted to the 40-man roster to avoid Rule 5.
  19. I don't get it either. Does the completely useless by September acronym really apply to anything besides the 1969 and 2004 teams? I can't think of any other teams that were actually successful enough to choke in the regular season. In either 1977 or 1979 (I don't recall which) the Cubs were in first place and 25 games over .500, then collapsed and finished at exactly .500. And in 1973 they were within 2 1/2 games of first in September.
  20. Paging Mark Peel. :D
  21. Team Losses Losses Behind CUBS 48 -- Milwaukee 49 1 St. Louis 53 5 Houston 59 11 Cincinnati 61 13 Pittsburgh 61 13 Much nicer to look at than the Fecal League standings. :D
  22. I think percentage of base runners stranded would be more meaningful than number LOB.
  23. To me this weekend says more about the Brewers than the Cardinals. Had the Cardinals also won the Cubs series I might think differently.
