It's interesting that the last couple of years Fontenot couldn't even get a 40-man roster spot and September callup, now he starts even when slumping. How quickly things can change.
The Barrett incident certainly was part of the reason for the talk, but your "and nothing else" assertion is definitely wrong. His crappy start to the season definitely had something to do with it. There were people advocating trading Zambrano even before the incident. The talk increased after the incident, but it started before then.
I agree, with "quite yet" being the key words. He has the momentum which, if it continues, will very possibly have him there at the end of the year. I don't think it's a bit coincidental that his surge is happening at the same time the Cubs' is.
I don't know if I'd go as far as saying most, but a lot did.LOL...funny how that changed so quickly. I'll admit I'm one of the ones who wouldn't have minded seeing him traded at the time. The Cubs didn't look to be in contention and it looked like he was in a freefall. Now his claim about winning the Cy Young Award this year doesn't look so crazy after all.
It's 100% mandatory that they find a way to re-sign Zambrano, no excuses, new owner or not. However, it's not important that it be done before the deadline.
Pie, Jones, and Veal for a guy who hasn't won a game in months and has a +5 ERA? Horrible. It would be a typical Cubs move, though; trade a player before his peak and make up for it by reacquiring him after he starts to fall.
He was sent down July 20, so he could be called back up as early as tomorrow based on the 10-day rule. I hadn't seen that article, so I may have misinterpreted cuubs4life's comments (I thought he was referring to a possible trade as opposed to a callup).
I believe the thinking relates more to the distance of the throw, not the frequency. LF to 3B is a much shorter throw than RF to 3B; therefore it doesn't take as strong of an arm.
Ryan was actually more of a reliever that year (he only started 10 games). Don Cardwell (who threw a no-hitter for the Cubs several years earlier) and Jim McAndrew were swingmen, both starting 21 games in addition to several relief appearances.
Not necessarily. There are trade rumors, but there have been many false rumors as well as true rumors that fell through at the last minute (such as Jones to Florida).
You're clearly a legit poster around here, but I'd still like to confirm from others what was said... hope you understand :) Well PSD Forum and Cubs.com forum each have a thread about it too Fair enough. I'll consider a "legitimate rumor" -- not that that means a whole lot  In other words, a definite maybe. :D
