  1. Elijah Dukes is to baseball what Tank Johnson and Pacman Jones are to football. I can easily see him squandering away a promising career (he's already on that road).
  2. He's actually registered here. He's posted a few times and done a few Q & A sessions in the past.
  3. I'd send Pagan down. If they call Pie up they'd have a glut of outfielders. Even better would be to trade Jones.
  4. I'd definitely be interested in the football board, although I probably won't post as much there as I do here (since football is my second sport behind baseball). I'm not really a pro basketball fan so I probably wouldn't be interested in that one, but there are probably enough Bulls fans to make it worth a shot. As far as the suggestion about making team allegiances known is concerned, perhaps team helmet or insignia avatars coud be made available. You may already be planning this, but I think it would be a good idea to include links from each board to the others.
  5. He needs to start showing he can make a lot more outs. That's the number one requirement for a Cubs' catcher.
  6. Four members so far; room for 10 more.
  7. Sure we can do something. We can hire Jeff Gilooly and friends to take out Hill's knee. :D
  8. I'm going to Saturday's game, so I'd be a happy camper if that happens.
  9. You should not talk religion in the workplace, ever. What if you're a priest? :D Or if you teach at a church-related university (like I do).
  10. I'm not sure he's been converted into a reliever; he may have just pitched in that game as an emergency reliever (Bush pitched in relief for Milwaukee in the same game). I believe what happens is that Juan takes away the points Sosa scored in relief, but that it doesn't count as one of your 7 starts.
  11. You might also post the question in the Mick Gillespie Q & A thread. He'd likely know.
  12. Looks like their proofreader was asleep on the job. :D I noticed that too. It's like the quote I read somewhere: "There are three types of baseball fans: Those that understand statistics and those who don't." I don't know if it still is, but that quote at one time was Mr. Wood's signature.

  14. Ho early I really get into it usually depends on the Cubs. Last year the Cubs were so putrid I was ready right from the beginning of Training Camp. This year I'm too focused on the Cubs' season to feel ready for football yet. But I definitely will be once they start playing games.
  15. I agree a yes-no poll is too limiting. He did just use the same responses as provided for the cubs.com poll (as have I in the past).
  16. Maybe you can replace Bob Brenly next year if he gets a managerial job. :D
  17. I also remember a time several years ago that his then-current team put Jose Canseco on waivers to trade him. A competitor of the team he wouls have been traded to claimed him to block the trade, assuming that his current team would simply retract the waivers. Instead, they allowed the waiver claim, and the team claiming him therefore was stuck paying the salary of a player they didn't even have a spot for in the lineup. That's the risk teams take when claiming a player they don't really want just to block a competitor from trading for him. Thats' how he ended up a Yankee. I couldn't remember the specific teams involved, but that sounds quite likely. Maybe they were trying to keep him from the Red Sox (although I don't remember if the Red Sox were their main competition that year).

  19. His wife had a C-section which technically is a surgery so he was allowed on the list. Good to see teams abusing the bereavement option. How's that an abuse? He wasn't in last night's game and was expected to miss the entire series anyway. It's not like they were using it as a way of stashing a tired pitcher for a few games.
  20. On the flip side: Getting Wood back this week, getting Ward back sooner than expected, but taking longer to get Blanco back. On the whole I'll take that deal (especially since, unbeknownst to the Cubs, they have a catcher named Soto tearing up AAA).
  21. I think the effect on the bullpen will be more than a rotation. Monday was an off-day, so losing Bush just means the rest of the pitchers will be pitching on normal rest rather than having an extra day. The Mets are affected the same way since they used Sosa in relief.
  22. That wouldn't have been such a factor if the Cubs were out of contention, which is what this hypothetical discussion is based on.
  23. Not true (I think it may have been, years ago); now waivers are needed for any trades after July 31. The significance of Aug. 31 is that's the last day a player can be added to a team's roster for postseason eligibility.
  24. It'll drop. I'll predict it right now that the Blackhawks are going to disappoint and not make the playoffs. Fortunately by that time another baseball season will have started with a new Cubs owner. Whether that's reason for excitement or despair remains to be seen.
