  1. Almost like a trading deadline acquisition without giving anybody up. That's sort of how I feel about Soriano too. Definitely.
  2. I'll take that if it results in a championship before then.
  3. Almost like a trading deadline acquisition without giving anybody up.
  4. you spelled Hurricanes wrong Fixed.if only They did it once; you never know.
  5. I was just about to post that in Cubs Discussions since he's a former Cub. mlb.com article
  6. I believe I read that also. Yost has said the Brewers will go Sabathia, Sheets, Parra, Bush or McClung, Suppan after the break. If everything remains, the big showdown series in Milwaukee to end July will be: Sabathia vs. Lilly Sheets vs. Zambrano Parra vs. Dempster Bush/McClung vs. Harden That seems to me like one probable Brewers win (Sabathia over Lilly), one probable Cubs win (Harden over Bush/McClung), and the other two toss-ups. Parra may have the edge over Dempster because of the series being in Milwaukee.
  7. I'd like to see the Cubs re-sign Dempster if he wants to return enough to give a hometown discount. The Cubs discovered the hard way the last few years that you can't have too much starting pitching, because injuries are inevitable.
  8. Since this seems to be the new NSBB rage, I think Marshall deserves props for his outing today. After Marmol's suckfest the Cubs could have easily let a sure win slip away, but Marshall slammed the door until the offense got the run. I'd rather Marshall be in the rotation, but today he was certainly a big key to the game.
  9. Not a bad type of wrong to be. :D
  10. Assuming he maintains his performance and doesn't get injured, I think those numbers are in line with what a desperate GM would give Dempster. The Cubs would be wise to pass if Dempster is offered anything more than three years at $10M per. He's been a very pleasant surprise this year, but 4 years for a 31-year old pitcher who only returned to the starting role after a five-year stint as a reliever is too aggressive. You mean his "five-year stint" that lasted about 2 3/4 years? He was moved to the bullpen in 2005 after starting the season in the rotation and remained there for the rest of 2005 and all of 2006 and 2007.
  11. I don't think anybody's saying that he can't regain his form. Saying he's "broken" is saying that there's something clearly wrong now (as opposed to just the occasional bad outing that everybody has), and he's had enough recent stinkers that I think it's indisputable that something is wrong at the moment. Saying he's "broken" is NOT saying that the problem can't be corrected. Perhaps we're just debating semantics here.
  12. IF it's an injury I agree five days off won't be enough. If it's fatigue it might be. If it's mechanical he needs to either pitch in mopup duty or else go down to Iowa until he rights himself. They really need to figure out the problem before they can determine what the solution is.
  13. As inexcusable as the blackout is, it may have saved my TV. Since I wasn't able to watch the game it prevented me from throwing something at the TV in disgust when Marmol was stinking and Lou leaving him in. Nonetheless, the blackout is indefensible and has to be ended.
  14. Check (at least for one start).
  15. Anybody who votes for Marmol should be committed.
  16. It is a big deal when Lou unforgiveably leaves him in to blow what should have been an insurmountable lead. It is a big deal when this is just the latest of several horrible outings as opposed to the occasional stinker that everyone has.
  17. And now it's back down to three Smokies with Atkins' promotion.
  18. Whenever I see his name in the box score, I think of Dirty Deeds by AC/DC. I remember that song (I believe the full name is Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap). I'm not an AC/DC fan (I'm not into heavy metal), but I did like that song.
  19. you spelled Hurricanes wrong Fixed.
  20. Wasn't it you one of the past few years? :) Actually, I think it was you, against me last year or 2 years ago. Haven't had a chance to look at the league history yet. It could have been; if so two years ago seems more likely, since that year I was still near the very bottom of the league and last year I was .500. EDIT: My worst week ever was against you in 2005 (133 points); whether that's the worst week ever in the league for anybody I don't know. I'm well on my way to falling short of that this week.
  21. After 4 days this week my team hasn't even reached 30 points yet. Anybody know what the lowest weekly score in Roadkill history is? If I'm going to stink this bad may as well do it in style. :D
  22. Unless it's a typo he's averaging well over a strikeout per inning but over two walks per inning.
  23. In the Chicago market, yes. For those of us out of market who rely on Extra Innings, no.
  24. quit your bitching about harang! It's actually Olson and Rodriguez I'm complaining about. I don't mind the Cubs torching Harang. :D
  25. Any of us who have to rely on EI to watch out of market games. What is that an abbreviation for? Extra Innings. At the risk of being really really [expletive], why wouldn't you just watch the game on Fox? Isn't there no other game up against it so won't it be televised nationally? It's not televised by Fox. Fox televises later afternoon games (usually at least two games split regionally).
