  1. I taught at Mount Olive a little over a decade ago. They're a Division II power (national champions in 2008; final four in the DII World Series this year). Two years ago the Cubs drafted another Mount Olive pitcher, B.J. Dail, but they terminated his contract for some disciplinary reason. He started at UNC-Chapel Hill but was dismissed from the team for violating a team rule. Unfortunately I don't know anything about Levitt other than he's not their number one pitcher. That would be Carter Capps (DII national player of the year), who was drafted by the Mariners as a compensation pick at the end of the 3rd round.
  2. Napoli in at C for Martin, who's day to day with a back injury.
  3. Oh well, can't lose them all. 10 out of 12 is nothing to sneeze at.
  4. ESPN has confirmed it. Yep; says he is considering the supplemental draft, but with the labor uncertainty he might consider the CFL or working with a personal QB coach first. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6636768
  5. The only one I'd say for sure is out is Whitenack. The game isn't for two more weeks, so McNutt could be back by then and Lamahieu could be sent back down assuming Baker returns by then.
  6. As a result of my brain-fart Napoli trade: McGehee dropped to keep my roster legal, Uribe to 3B.
  7. I'm not the one you are fighting for that change. I'm perfectly fine with daily line ups. I'd have no problem with it either. It would simplify understanding of the rules by making exceptions unnecessary. Perhaps it would be worth posting a poll on Roadkill to get a feel for people's preferences.
  8. Boy did I have a brain fart when I traded for Napoli. For some reason I was thinking he's eligible at C and 3B, not 1B. Oh well, at least I can use him at U to replace Vlad during interleague play when there's no DH. Anybody interested in Martin for a mid-round pick?
  9. During last night's telecast Len and Bob were wondering if the injury had something to do with his struggles.
  10. Big Z has apologized. We still stinks.
  11. I don't think there are any, let alone many (at least with some minimum number of ABs). I think I remember that being mentioned during one of the weekend games. Too bad BP apparently discontinued the Hacking Mass contest this year. Colvin would have been great.
  12. His rant was an all-time classic.
  13. Garza officially activated from the DL. Maine optioned to Iowa.
  14. Colvin has absolutely no business being anywhere near a major league starting lineup right now.
  15. We should also agree that you won't gripe when a decision is made based on the spirit, rather than the letter, of a rule. We can call it the Ben Sheets Rule.
  16. The funny thing is, recent good teams for the Cubs have mostly been rapid turnarounds. '97-98. '00-'01 '02-'03 '06-'07. Going back further, same thing for '83-'84 and '88-'89. Every postseason appearance during my lifetime (except for the repeat in '08) followed a losing season.
  17. Big Z would approve. :D
  18. I don't have any problem with it. I also agree with your stance on minor leaguers, although I'd qualify it by saying my main objection would be to having minor leaguers on an active roster. I wouldn't object as much to having them on the reserve list as long as they have played in the major leagues at some point in the season.
  19. So the secret is out. JeffH is actually Steve Rosenbloom. :D
  20. That's Dayton Ohio's Campsomething to you. [-X
  21. Sorry; I meant to use a quote to show that I was replying to Adam's post. He was still belaboring the issue, so I quoted the rule to show that his argument contradicts the wording of the rule.
