  1. From what I've heard, it's not his arm that's the problem. It's his glove. Apparently he can't catch the ball behind the plate or in the field. Tell the other team not to hit it to him, problem solved They'd be happy to hit it out of the park instead of at Fox. :D

  3. IT'S NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE.
  4. Update: Field of Dreams just came out in Blu-Ray.
  5. If Freel goes on the DL the 10-day period doesn't apply. You can bring up a player less than 10 days after sending him down if it's to replace a player going on the DL. Theoretically they could call Scales back up as soon as tomorrow if Freel goes on the DL.
  6. Because you need a lefty in the bullpen, no matter how bad they are. duh. I was thinking Stevens was a lefty From what I hear, much like Cotts, Wadells another one of those loogies whose worse against lefties, so its all moot. This year in AAA righties have hit .205 and lefties have hit .346 against Waddell.
  7. We got Turk back? Awesome! How old is he now? It's Turk Wendell. There was a Hall of Fame pitcher named Rube Waddell who pitched in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
  8. We only had like 34-37 guys on the 40-man to start the year, so we should be alright. And if there is ever a 40-man roster crunch they'd simply transfer Chad Fox to the 60-day DL to create a spot.
  9. We should care, because this joke and a half determines home field advantage for the World Series.
  10. This happened the day after the infamous Barrett-Zambrano brawl. Lou got suspended for a few games after getting tossed, and Trammell served as acting manager. Whether it's coincidental or not, the Cubs started winning under Trammell and continued when Lou returned. There was speculation at the time that it helped relax the Cubs getting away from Lou for a few days.
  11. It's the top 17% (in terms of service time) of players with more than 2 but less than 3 years. For example, if in a given year there are 100 players with between 2 and 3 years, the 17 of those with the most service time are the super 2's. The significance is that super 2's are eligible for arbitration along with players with at least 3 full years of service.
  12. He didnt have much to chose from. It was either put out Ascanio, who barely escaped disaster the ining before or either Cotts, Heilman, or Patton. He had to save Guz for the 8th at the off chance we had the lead by then. Mrs. Marmol screwed us over. We KNEW Cotts was going to screw it up. I would have taken my chances with Ascanio for another inning; at least there would have been a chance. Some chance is better than no chance.
  13. None. Certainly Trammell could give advice, but he can't overrule his boss.
  14. Lou gift-wrapped the game for the Pirates by pitching Cotts with a 1-run lead. Dumb, dumb, dumb. The result was so predictable.
  15. I'm merging this into the existing Milton Bradley thread, where his blaming the umpires is being discussed.
  16. [nitpick]It was actually 1972. They had winning seasons every year from 1967 through 1972, then beginning with 1973 they didn't have another winning season until 1984 (there was one 81-81 season in that stretch). [/nitpick]
  17. The Cubs have a losing streak's best friend, a home series against the Pirates. If they're still struggling after this series then maybe it will be time to talk about changes.

Feel free to take a breather this coming week.

    Week 8

So 4-3 vs. 5-2 isn't a matchup of two teams with winning records?
  20. In 2001 the Cubs lost 8 games in a row. Then they immediately followed that up with a 12-game winning streak. Things can turn around quickly.
  21. Yes. The offense is definitely slumping now, but all teams go through slumps and they're still within 4 games of 1st.
  22. IT'S NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE.
  23. No, no it wouldn't. I know you're an optimist but let's be real. This team hasn't won a playoff game together. I think it's time to rebuild and build up our farm system. If someone offers great prospects for one of our players and we continue to look like we have this week, you take the deal in a heartbeat. It's time to rebuild and build a world series champion. Come on. Do you honestly think this team is capable of winning a World Series? Yes.
