  1. Putting the likelihood of Wells also contracting Rick Ankiel disease aside... Hill 2006: 26 years old, 99.1 IP, 4.17 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 90 K, 39 BB Hill 2007: 27 years old, 195 IP, 3.92 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 183 K, 63 BB Wells 2009: 26 years old, 95 IP, 2.84 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 60 K, 21 BB At the same point in their careers, Hill never pitched as well for as extended a period of time. The 4.17 ERA in 2006 was inflated because he struggled in an earlier call-up. He was lights out after returning for good over the last month or so of the season.
  2. I don't expect it, but they can. Normally he'd have to spend 10 days in the minors before being called back up, but not if it's to replace a player going on the DL. Earlier this season Fuld was called back up 1 day after being sent down for the same reason. Yes, I know that part of the rule, but my question is does it work when it's a pitcher replacing a position player? If so, it makes the most sense. Stevens hasn't been overworked. He was coming off 2 days in a row, but has 1 day of rest. And Atkins doesn't provide much of anything. It doesn't have to be pitcher for pitcher or position player for position player. I believe when Fuld came up it was to replace a pitcher. I didn't clarify that point in my earlier post.
  3. Southern Cal freshman linebacker Frankie Telfort has been diagnosed with a heart condition and will not play college football.

  5. Ridiculous. I for one won't be watching it.
  6. I picked up Marte and Norris; my understanding is that's legit since they are now both on major league rosters. Marte has long since lost minor league eligibility and is on my reserve list. Norris is on my minor league roster since he still has eligibility. If there's any problem with this Juan can let me know.
  7. Didn't they release him? No, he's still on the Iowa roster and played as recently as Monday of this week.
  8. I hadn't thought of this before, and the Johnson injury kills this possibility, but I wonder if the original plan (if there's anything to this in the first place, which I have doubts) included moving Soriano back to 2B. That would have meant an outfield of Dunn, Johnson, and Bradley. There was some discussion about moving Soriano back to 2B earlier in the season.
  9. It makes zero sense for the Nationals as well. Fukudome is making over $12 million the next 2 seasons. Why would the Nationals want him unless the Cubs were willing to eat a significant part of that money? I'm sure that would be a key part of it if there's anything to this (which I don't think there is).
  10. Confirmation from chicagosports.com.
  11. As an ace, no. As a back of the rotation starter, yes. He's been pitching well long enough now to prove that it's not a fluke.
  12. This is Kosuke's opportunity to prove that he deserves to start full time instead of platooning.
  13. Dunn in left, Soriano in center, Bradley in right, and pray that the pitchers miss a lot of bats. EDIT: This was in response to EJ's post.
  14. Nope, you've evaluated that one poorly. I'd suprised if we see him again prior to the rosters expanding...but not because the Cubs have given up on him 'once and for all'. I think Patton is still rehabbing his groin actually. He only threw 40 pitches or so the other night against the BayBears and they pulled him after 2 runs scored on errors after the 2nd. I can only piece together that it's because of the injury. I was secretly hoping they released him or tradedf him or something. Didn't happen :( They let Jeremy Papelbon throw the majority of the game. Hopefully if Patton is fully healthy they continue to keep him down in AA, he doesn't belong on the MLB roster. If they can hide him away for the rest of the season, Patton would make a nice arm to have in the system. Why go through that much trouble? Cant they just make a deal with the Rockies(or is it the Reds?) so they dont have to go through all that? I doubt hed cost too much in return. That might have made sense earlier in the season, before he had spent 90 days on the active roster (although, as others have pointed out, he would have needed to clear waivers). It makes zero sense now. All the Cubs need to do is keep him on the DL until rosters expand on Sept. 1. They could then restore him to the active roster, use him only in mopup situations, then send him down for proper development next year free of Rule 5 restrictions.
  15. The joke pitched a scoreless 9th to preserve the shutout.
  16. I just snatched him in my keeper league just in case he's finally put it together (he's still only 25).
  17. One could say Wang has been scratched too (for the rest of the year).
  18. Wang is out for the season to undergo shoulder surgery. Meanwhile Colon has been scratched from his scheduled start due to elbow soreness. Let the anatomy jokes begin.
  19. Down by 10.5 points but up 1 pitching start. Not bad at all.
  20. Sox trade trash to Sox for trash. :D
  21. I'd say it worked out VERY well for you. Just to get back at you: Washburn, Washburn, Washburn, Washburn. :P
  22. Damn you, why couldn't you have made that trade before LAST night's game?
  23. Get this guy a wahmburger and some french cries Along with a glass of whine.
  24. Confirmed by cubs.com under transactions. If Berg doesn't ever return to the major leagues he can claim a career of having never allowed a single base runner. :D
