  1. This thinking is why I'm not gungho about the Jets trading for Watson. His arm strength really leaves alot to be desired, it's long forgotten but his velocity at the combine was *really* bad. I haven't even considered him the Texans' best offensive player, that would be Tunsil, over the past two years its not forgotten, its the #1 reason I had Trubisky over Watson. I know he carved up Alabama, but lack of arm strength sucks in the nfl*. How do you sling back a 750 of vodka and go deep the way the GREAT ORTON did? of course, I had noooo idea who Patrick Mahomes was. never heard of him *old man patronage taken liberally here
  2. If Dak hits FA, I'd be ecstatic to give him an outrageous contract. Otherwise this terrifies me. horsefeathers it . lets go deep
  3. I was trying to figure out what is the most Bears outcome to this situation and figured it was either giving up too much for Darnold or acquiring Wentz without any relief for his salary factored in. But I don't think Wentz is going anywhere now so the second most likely may be Pace bidding against himself and somehow giving Mitch 3 years with no cap relief in years 2 and 3. Give up 3 1sts for Rodgers and then he retires next year after an 8-8 finish. Packers select HOF QB Mac Jones with one of those picks. That is the most Bear outcome. nah, thats how the Vikings roll
  4. wow. RIP Hank
  5. a little from column a, a little from column b I'm sure they have quality coaches if they are getting poached, but the degree to which they are leaving suggests zero faith in sticking around past the end of next season, and/or the lack of opportunities to move up in Chicago
  6. lions are running away with the division they said
  7. Lock was just an example. But I do disagree with your assessment of his potential (his season was pretty bad though). The point was, if the Bears don't come up with 1 sure option, they then need to come up with 2 lottery tickets....1 via FA or trade and 1 via draft. Lock had the worst WR supporting cast of any QB in the league. At one point, rookie Jerry Jeudy was his only target of any significance, and even he was running wrong routes and dropping passes. I'd take Lock over Trubisky in a heartbeat if the Broncos make a big splash. bad footwork, can't read a defense, yup sounds like a Chicago QB
  8. he wanted the guy the jets hired as HC. Also one or two good seasons with that team will immortalize you in ways a Philip Rivers type career for 20 years never could. you mean putting up top 10 numbers years in a row while never getting to the Super Bowl? idk. It seems like he'd just be second fiddle to Eli Manning in that town
  9. yea but, why would Watson want to go to the Jets
  10. yea, a rd 2-4 QB should always be a priority if you dont have a Rodgers starting even then Yea I mean didn't the Packers fart out like 3 or 4 guys into trade capital that they developed behind Favre in the 90s? "developed" is a strong term I'm not sure I would use to describe the gases you are describing. there was actually alottttta horsefeathers but, I think teams have slowed down on that train since Jimmy G. I'd do it just to try and find a guy who can play QB if I didnt have a shot at a cant miss like Lawerence - if there is such a thing
  11. Without getting Fields, Wilson, Lance or Watson, I'm thinking loading up on the offensive line while waiting for the next QB opportunity is way to go. So go with that bridge or patch work QB, having that OL in place will certainly help to hasten the development of your franchise QB. I just want to see a QB somewhere this draft. Obviously 20 doesnt look like a strong spot to pick high at this point, but guys like Mond or Newman are compelling enough as day 3 picks. Even if they're only ever backups that's 4 cheap years of backup QB play. Grab a practice squad flyer who isn't Tyler Bray also. yea, a rd 2-4 QB should always be a priority if you dont have a Rodgers starting even then
  12. if you are frustrated with the qb play this year, how does that make any sense on improving it next year? You get MUCH worse at the starter. resign Trubisky and roll the dice on Jones. There is no reason to get worse while trying to get better You have to try lots of options. Put a guy in a new system and who knows, he might improve. But if the worst case is you actually get worse QB play, then you'll also get a much better draft pick in 2022 and an entirely new regime to make that selection. Drew Lock's only real playing time has produced numbers worse than Trubiskys worse year. So I guess if the idea is to tank next year, Lock is definitely the guy. But hoping for a come around..yeeeesh
  13. ' huh? What's so hard to understand? if you are frustrated with the qb play this year, how does that make any sense on improving it next year? You get MUCH worse at the starter. resign Trubisky and roll the dice on Jones. There is no reason to get worse while trying to get better
  14. There was a sentiment that you could surround Brady with anyone and win championships. The team regularly took cast-offs from other teams and day 2/3 draft picks and sustained success. I don't know if anyone argued that Brady was unimportant, but I haven't delved back into the hot take archives So... that doesn't really disprove any Belicheck myth than? As long as it admits Belicheck's system was reliant on a HOF QB. It was still an incredibly successful system that other franchises with a HOF QB didn't get near matching. when the Pats sign Watson, we will finally get to see his system in full effect
  15. I don’t like the idea of the Bears picking up Wentz. Physically, Wentz and Trubisky are completely different QBs, but in terms of production, they’ve put up very similar numbers, and at two years older, he’s much more of a finished product than Trubisky is. Between the two at the same price, I’d rather have Trubisky. I'd rather have Watson, but yea Trubisky and Wentz aren't all that different in production. Might as well go with price also, am I the only one who thinks Geo Mc could have pulled the three (Phillips, Pace, and Nagy) in and said "you guys created this, you have 1 year to win the div and go deep in the playoffs or you're all gone"? at least I hope that was the meeting they had.
  16. Perhaps he means the younger AFC QBs in the final 8 (Mahomes, Mayfield, Jackson, Allen) vs the old guys and the crappy guy in the NFC (Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Goff)? It’s all about the quarterback in the NFL anyway. Yeah, I think you nailed why it feels that way to me. I was just thinking how it is striking to see the Bills and Browns knocking on the door when a handful of years ago they were laughingstock franchises. Heck, it wasn’t so long ago that KC was just mediocre. Mahomes is still “new” to me. KC as a perennial contender still feels new. This is probably the last year for that though. I wasn’t commenting on AFC vs NFC. It wouldn’t bother me to never see Ben sniff another title game. A non-playoff Pats team is like the clouds parting giving way to sunshine, as far as I’m concerned. So this is much more fun to me than it’s been in a very long time. When the Pats trade for Watson they'll be back in it unfortunately
  17. Maybe more so; there really are two main defenses (3-4 and cover2) so defenses coordinators are maybe more expendable
  18. They can definitely make it work. Watson's cap hit increase in 2022 actually sets up perfectly with the Bears being able to get out of some of the big contracts. Even if they don't cut Mack until AFTER 2022, they can save 24M by cutting Quinn and Jackson with a June 1 designation. Then there's Foles 7Mil off the books. Goldman could be a June 1 cut. If the cap is 200M in 2022, the Bears currently have 75M in cap room. Granted, only 24 players under contract, but that also includes guys like Massie who will certainly be cut this offseason. Yea, so you're cutting a bunch of starters and only have FA to really replace them. They can of course fit his cap number, but building a winner around it is entirely different. yea, unless they were to get Watson with something akin to what they traded for Cutler with it would hamstring the team. Watson would end up where he is: a super talented QB on a team void of another talent. Draft a qb, or get lucky with Prescott
  19. the issue is who is hiring the guy who goes out and gets the talent, is the top guy somoene who cares about: "moxy" cost or actual football knowledge and experience I'll say this, Pace was a football guy, albeit young. I cant fault Phillips for his involvement in that hire.
  20. That's more or less what it is though. yea, I dont get the idea either. Kenney had far more ranging power as I understand it
  21. we're going to trade up as far as we can to take Kyle Trask. We feel he's the next Ben Roethlisberger
