I don’t like the idea of the Bears picking up Wentz. Physically, Wentz and Trubisky are completely different QBs, but in terms of production, they’ve put up very similar numbers, and at two years older, he’s much more of a finished product than Trubisky is. Between the two at the same price, I’d rather have Trubisky. I'd rather have Watson, but yea Trubisky and Wentz aren't all that different in production. Might as well go with price also, am I the only one who thinks Geo Mc could have pulled the three (Phillips, Pace, and Nagy) in and said "you guys created this, you have 1 year to win the div and go deep in the playoffs or you're all gone"? at least I hope that was the meeting they had. -

Perhaps he means the younger AFC QBs in the final 8 (Mahomes, Mayfield, Jackson, Allen) vs the old guys and the crappy guy in the NFC (Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Goff)? It’s all about the quarterback in the NFL anyway. Yeah, I think you nailed why it feels that way to me. I was just thinking how it is striking to see the Bills and Browns knocking on the door when a handful of years ago they were laughingstock franchises. Heck, it wasn’t so long ago that KC was just mediocre. Mahomes is still “new” to me. KC as a perennial contender still feels new. This is probably the last year for that though. I wasn’t commenting on AFC vs NFC. It wouldn’t bother me to never see Ben sniff another title game. A non-playoff Pats team is like the clouds parting giving way to sunshine, as far as I’m concerned. So this is much more fun to me than it’s been in a very long time. When the Pats trade for Watson they'll be back in it unfortunately -
Maybe more so; there really are two main defenses (3-4 and cover2) so defenses coordinators are maybe more expendable

They can definitely make it work. Watson's cap hit increase in 2022 actually sets up perfectly with the Bears being able to get out of some of the big contracts. Even if they don't cut Mack until AFTER 2022, they can save 24M by cutting Quinn and Jackson with a June 1 designation. Then there's Foles 7Mil off the books. Goldman could be a June 1 cut. If the cap is 200M in 2022, the Bears currently have 75M in cap room. Granted, only 24 players under contract, but that also includes guys like Massie who will certainly be cut this offseason. Yea, so you're cutting a bunch of starters and only have FA to really replace them. They can of course fit his cap number, but building a winner around it is entirely different. yea, unless they were to get Watson with something akin to what they traded for Cutler with it would hamstring the team. Watson would end up where he is: a super talented QB on a team void of another talent. Draft a qb, or get lucky with Prescott

the issue is who is hiring the guy who goes out and gets the talent, is the top guy somoene who cares about: "moxy" cost or actual football knowledge and experience I'll say this, Pace was a football guy, albeit young. I cant fault Phillips for his involvement in that hire.

This is not good. I think there is a way to sell this decision as the right way to move forward, but they aren't going that at all. I assumed the family was looking for stability after years of constant turnover, but this press conference is really just selling stability for stability's sake. yea, Phillips is selling a "successful organization" and not a winning football team. As the only NFL team in Chicago, they'll always be a "successful organization" its almost belittling in effect

On the other hand the freaking Steelers won the North and they suck. Everybody in the NFC West is quite beatable. The worst matchup is Seattle on the road but I'm not sure they still have the same aura the past few years, with quite a few home losses for a team that was supposed to be impossible to beat in their stadium. AFC North had 3 playoff teams this year. NFC West had 2 and another team the Bears tied with them. So, on paper that's 6 teams equal or better than the Bears, not including GB x 2, and Tampa, and potentially whatever AFC team they get for the 17th game. That being said, I don't pay attention to projections. 6-8 new teams make the playoffs every year. Granted, the Bears could be 1 of the, but odds are 3-4 of these teams aren't very good next year. next year is a 17 game schedule?

This is one of the few days of the year I'll listen to a little talk radio and laugh to myself about all the guys who have listened to press conferences their entire life and then call in and complain that it was all fluff or spin or whatever. I'm trying to figure out if I want to listen to the conference with Bernstein's chatter in the background, sometimes it's mildly entertaining when he scoffs at everything but it can also be a bit much. what station / website are you guys listening to?

Itll be fine. Nagy and Pace are currently sizing up trade options with Houston and Dallas. Just how many 3rd rd picks do they get, and which team will fold first giving us a perennial All Pro qb. It's a tough sled, especially when talking about the salary cap, so dear Phillips is there with his rather sizable collection of slide rules lending a fair and kind hand. Who am I kidding we're fucked

lol I'd much rather be the Bears than Detroit. Detroit is going to have at least a 1 year headstart on their rebuild with a new coach and GM. Granted, it's Detroit and things will likely not turn out well but I'd rather be them. I thought Detroit had a head start 27 years ago with Barry Sanders lol

I've started from the theory that I think they are sick of the constant turnover since Lovie left and will error on the side of stability if these guys show competence. Part of investing in young execs and coaches is the real ability to grow into the job. So I'm definitely a good target for those rumors and am happy to think they're real. I heard the same rumor as Raw. That's why I said through 2022. It would be more reasonable or easier to cut both Nagy and Pace loose if they are on their last year, but a tougher pill to swallow if they had more than that remaining on their deals. There was also plenty of rumors that George was unhappy with the team, which is why I think someone high up has to go. That puts Ted in the crosshairs. Pagano wouldn't be a big enough splash. and yet, I can totally see George side-stepping the issue by ONLY firing Pagano

Yeah, it's mostly nonsense teams can use as an excuse not to hire a black coach. DUI, fight in college after being called a racial slur, multiple rapes when he was on the Colorado staff, some assault stuff that got him banned from campus.
