  1. I think it's rather funny how much misconception there is around the de-listing of Soldier Field. It wasn't delisted because it turned out "ugly", it was delisted because the designer, Lohan, took the conceptual route we in the industry call "facadism". Archibabble to be sure, and I probably lost you all 2 sentences ago, but when you gut a historic structure and leave the exterior, it is the most patronizing way to try and keep hold of the "historicism". It won several design awards. Not that they mean everything because we as a profession are extremely self rewarding. But honestly, you can't look at SF and think "that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen". Wrigley field, for example, looks like a horsefeathering circus tent from the exterior. Lucas Oil Field looks like it might house a blimp. The Raiders new stadium is just Darth Vader's helmet after it melted down on a very windy day. Stadiums are notoriously difficult to grasp in a single view because THEY'RE GINORMOUS AND, non of it is the Bears fault. The City hired the designers and construction company. But yea, sooooo Bears
  2. If you told me we'd be up a game at the end of this series, I'd take it Cubs Win!
  3. well, let's be honest, I can't even imagine thinking to myself "I own the Chicago Bears" to begin with, so....
  4. I just cant fathom thinking to myself "I don't want to be the owner of the Chicago Bears anymore"
  5. I've secured an onsite CA role for the construction of the new Bears stadium, IF they build it and IF a certain firm wins the bid. - I'm mostly joking, but if it did happen and the pieces fell together, I will be there.
  6. I'm pretty sure they lost that status after the renovation because of how poorly the renovation preserved those colonnades Edit: here an article about losing landmark status: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/644198/how-national-historic-landmarks-lose-nps-status IIRC during the remodel they did everything they could to incorporate the colonnades to maintain the landmark status. End result - a horsefeathers looking structure, so bad that it lost the status they tried so hard to maintain. Also - they ended up with the smallest stadium seat capacity in the NFL. They didnt do "everything they could", they gave it the ol' college try. And its not a bad look overall. that being said, now that the landmark status is gone, they can pretty much do anything they want with the building.
  7. I've never purchased land let alone of this magnitude, but submitting a bid feels like more than posturing to me. it really depends on how much they bid and if it is a sealed bid. But right now, it is JUST a bid and not intent to buy, fwiu i'd love to see a new Bears stadium someplace. I happen to know an architect who specializes in nfl stadiums. might have to hit them up for a job :)
  8. If they level the raceway and build a stadium, they will redesign and optimize the parking and the existing parking wont matter. the direct adjacency to hwy 53 would very likely mean traffic getting in and out will be muuch smoother then SF I do wonder if this is a chess move with the Chicago Parks district
  9. Fields looks small to me for some reason. I know he isn't, he actually has decent height and good/great strength. Love seeing him in a Bears jersey though
  10. And yes, we called the "durags". I hated that term because it felt like I was in a production of West Side Story or some horsefeathers, but not because I felt it wasn't for white people
  11. I'm white and wore durags all the time when I worked construction. Lots of white people do. The only way I can read Brenlys comment is with undertones of racism.
  12. yea, horsefeathers hosting super bowls. The NFL should just build a stadium in Honolulu for super bowls and be done with it
  13. Yup. They also aren't the "neighborhood anchors" they always claim to be when they try to get public funding because they typically are empty shells w/few daily events year round. SF is in a good location for a stadium with the caveats being 1)traffic and 2) the park districts control
  14. Oh really, why? I didn't know that NFL ownership guidelines require a controlling individual/entity. They don’t want the scrutiny of what a publicly traded company would necessitate. ah. Are they *presumably* selling because they are tired of running it or are they just broke? and if its the later, why couldn't they sell, say, 30% (or whatever maintains their leadership) in a public offering to bring in some money? Is that even possible?
  15. Not sure if serious, but they can't do that. Oh really, why? I didn't know that
  16. I wonder if the McCaskeys would consider an IPO?
  17. The state/city/public kicked in a god awful amount to build Soldier Field. I'm sure if the Bears wanted to build their own stadium they could, but why when the state is willing to give you a hand
  18. I'm not sure I like any 3 of those options over the McCaskeys Bezos, maybe, as long as he doesn't move the team Do you mean move the team from Chicago to the burbs? Or move the team outta state? I can’t see any buyer moving the team out of IL. out of the metro area mainly. It certainly can happen, and given the history of the Bears I would def not want it to. I honestly dont want them to move off the lakeshore and I'm not sure what the reason would be other then to get a bigger stadium and field turf. traffic?
  19. I'm not sure I like any 3 of those options over the McCaskeys Bezos, maybe, as long as he doesn't move the team
  20. I think OMC was saying he was just doing the math in his head which is immediately what I was doing. But could be wrong. Oh, I was just responding to the original post that was seemingly making it sound like it's really weird/nuts/whatever that Gooden could be a great-grandfather at 56. I find it extremely weird he is only 56. Seems like forever since he was owning the league in the mid 1980's With all that has happened in baseball since, it seems eons ago
  21. i wouldn't say ironic, more coincidental, but horsefeathers those other teams. I want Fields and the Bears to taunt the nfl for years
  22. week 16. I'm buying tickets
