  1. A guy who couldn't cut it as a closer, hadn't started in his nine years playing in the majors is now a winning starting pitcher. You don't find those that often either they can't hold up to the many more pitches or just didn't have it to begin with. explain Dempster Dempster was a starter for most of his career, and had success (albeit limited). He also was very good as closer in his first go round. It has always been fairly clear that Ryan is very good when he can locate his pitches. Looper was strictly a reliever until the Cards converted him. Ryan had 3 200+ IP seasons in the past. Now I think Dempster is overachieving, but he =/= Looper. You asked me to explain but it looks like somebody already did. There's a big difference between being a starter up until a major injury and then coming back to being a starter a few years later and never starting before. Smoltz has done it a couple times and if Wood ever became a starter again it wouldn't be crazy if he succeeded because he ahd done it before. This being said I have no problem with a Cardinal fan saying Demp has pitched way over his head this season because he has, however, it is different than Looper.
  2. You do realize there is a difference between cheaters, and guys who seem washed up? I'm sure I have supported users and cheaters before the difference between them and Bonds is I didn't know it at the time they were playing otherwise I would have said give them the boot. With Bonds we know before even signing him has cheated and therefore we shouldn't sign him. I will never ever support one of my teams selling their integrity, credibility and/or soul just win. That's how this whole steroid era got going anyways. Owners wanted to win more than do what is right.
  3. Much fear in this one I see Be quiet you knee high short person.
  4. Eh I can kind of understand Sox fans thinking. We haven't won in their lifetime (almost definately the case) so they have never exerienced us winning. people fear the unknown and lets be honest when we do eventually win this year there is going to be partying for years to come and we will talk about it forever. Whereas the Whte Sox have on more recently than us so we don't fear them winning as much because we have experienced it before and lived through it so we know we can again. All this said I've always been one to take my chances and have confidence in my team so I would vote for both because I would believe the Cubs would win and even if they didn't the chances of the White Sox winning the WS is small anyways.
  5. Marbury was a pretty good player in his prime (age 21-26). Rose is bigger, and a better and more willing passer. Marbury was probably more of a true scorer, but Rose should be able to shoot better than the miserable 30% from 3 that Marbury shot during his prime years. Marbury averaged 8 assists and sometimes 9 assists per game in each of his first 11 seasons. He was a fine passer. He just played on teams that had one or two other scorers and nothing elese so he shot too much. He has been consistently average with his 3, although his career percentage is .326 so not quite as bad as you say. I did say in his prime which was from age 21-26 as I pointed out earlier. He's become a much better shooter with age. 8-9 assists is solid, but I never said Marbury was a bad passer, just not as good as Rose is. And for the record, Marbury never averaged 9 assists in a single season (8.9 twice, only 1 other season over 8.5). Also, I don't see your point that he only played w/ 1 or 2 scorers. First off, how many teams in NBA history have had more than 2 guys you could consider "scorers". Secondly, Marbury played w/ 3-4 others players in Minnesota and NJ who averaged over 12 PPG in every season. I should have clarified more. Averaging 8-9 assists in 9 straight seasons is extremely rare and to say right off the bat Rose is better than that despite never playing in the NBA isn't something that should be done. If he averaged 8 assists this next year I think most Bulls fans would be thrilled. Marbury is 22nd all-time in assists and needs 800 more (averages 533 a season) to be top 10. Marbury may be the most underrated PG of all time (never been a fan of his but just looking at his numbers and the respect level he has) and certainly one of the top PG of this generation. My point with the only playings with one other scorer is he hasn't been on very many if any good teams and thus has shot the ball more than almost any other PG. He's almost universally labeled a ball hog and he is more than say Kidd but you don't get that many assists by hogging the ball all the time. He was inconsistent with his three early in his career. Shooting .360 one year and .280 the next. But 21-26 isn't the prime years to me. At 21 most players are still adjusting to the NBA. I would go with 24-30. In those years Marbury has shot over .300 in all but one year and his average is roughly around .340 in those years. Lastly I miswrote in my first post he averaged 8 or so assists each of his first 9 years not 11 (although I would probably give a lot of blame to Thomas for the last two years. Not everyone plays PG the way he did).

  9. That actually made me laugh out loud. And you don't want a pitcher paying attention to his k/BB rate because then when he walks a guy it messes with his focus.
  10. You're the fourth person to speak up, and the most openings possible is three. Unless someone ahead of you in line changes their mind you'll be out of luck for this year. No reason why you (or somebody else) shouldn't start up another league; there's no rule that there can only be one NSBB league. You could always take out a contract and eliminate somebody ahead of you in line. :lol:I'll give him my spot if he's willing to do me a little favor...give me $100. What's wrong Sorgi not getting payed enough to carry a clip board around 16 Sundays a year.
  11. They've fixed it.

Just sayin.
  13. Enjoy Pure awesomeness. I'll have to save that for when I get tired of this sig. There is no such thing as getting sick of a sig with her in it.
  14. Why are you using errors to determine how good a defender is? It's not perfect obviously but someone who is close to leading the league in errors for his position isn't having too good of a season. Lee has been good but to his normal level so far. I don't that's really true at all. All that means is he's botched a few routine plays. Routine plays don't make a defender great. The things that make Lee a great defender have still been there all season. Errors also could mean a defender botched a tough play that he made look easy. Perhaps an infielder has very good range and gets to a lot more balls than other defenders, so he gets more chances to botch plays. I realize this but the mistakes Lee has made haven't for the most part been that type. And please look at what I actually said. I said he is having a worse year than normal and that is certainly the case. He still has the great range but has been messing up on others more than before.
  15. :ninja: :this: :beee: I don't understand these first one is for when you are alluding to something or making a clever pun, second is supposed to be for what he said but it doesn't really work, third is for refusing to see someones point or feeling you are above something
  16. No, they almost definitely wouldn't. ummm yes they definately would you may be willing to support a cheater but a large portion of Cubs fans are older and they tend to not support a jerk and cheater like Bonds. Seriously people actually campaigning to get Bonds ... ugh I thought Cubs fans were better than this. I truly don't think I could make it through a game sitting next to someone who wants to win no matter what even if that means breaking every ethical and moral rule to do it. People like this supporter IU's hiring of Sampson because hey he might be a cheater but we'll win.
  17. Jeez 52 pages I'm impressed. Right now I think we are spoiled a bit and coming down from a high. Even normal 100 win teams have periods like this. The Red Sox go on streaks both way every year and still end up with or close to the best record in baseball.
  18. Winning isn't everything. You cheat your out I got no problem with Bonds being blacklisted serves him right. And it does make since in a business standpoint because whatever team signs him will likely lose many fans over it.

  20. I'm very happy with my Rockets draft. They got two very good players and in some of the weirdest trades of the day got a 2nd Rd. pick for next year. They drafted Batum at 25 then traded him for Arthur (was happy to have Arthur has he is a top 10 talent but we have the PF slot filled). We then trade Arthur for Donte Greene AND Joey Dorsey who was on the board at 25 in the first place plus Memphis' 2009 2nd rd pick. So we got the guy we wanted all along but through these trades picked up Dorsey and a pick. It amazes me that in essence we traded the 25th pick and got the 27th (Greene) and 33rd (Dorsey) picks plus next year's 2nd rder.
  21. It looks like IU could be screwed for years over the Sampson mess. The NCAA is going after the program for not fulfilling their promise to monitor Sampson's calls (remember when he was first hired he wasn't allowed to do any recruiting but they changed it just not allowing him to go on visits since he was at a different program who had a good history of following the rules). This would me the program would get sanctions and probably more than just minor ones because they didn't do their job (and Greenspan resigning is a very bad sign of the program's hands being dirty). It could blow over, IU could lose scholarships, IU could be banned from post season play for awhile or a combo on the last two. It will be interesting to see what happens and if it gets ugly whether Crean jumps ship at some point.
  22. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/ML_2008_t.shtml in terms of OPS+, Volquez has been the best pitcher in baseball by an absurd amount. lol at #3 the thing that sticks out most to me in all those is that King Felix is still the 9th youngest player in the bigs
  23. on the internet
  24. you got to be in the majors to be the worst in the majors he played for the tigers today. ahh ... still one at-bat plus something like 6 in 2003 isn't enough to me. Real question is why the heck was he called up.
