  1. Yeah that has heartbreak written all over it. I really really don't want to have to go in there needing to clinch, either have it done or be out of it. I plan to be at all three of those games. I fully expect the Reds to scar me for life. Don't worry. The Cubs will be out of it by then, you have nothing to worry about.
  2. I haven't been able to watch the last few games and was hoping someone could tell me what they thought of Fox, and how he's looked at the plate. Thanks in advance.
  3. Well you bone their daughter, so it's the price you have to pay. This is exactly what I was thinking. I would have responded with "I'm sorry Mr. such and such, I can't talk right now, I'm getting my birthday (fill in blank) from your daughter right now."
  4. PYTHAGOREAN RECORD!!! PYTHAGOREAN RECORD!!! I'm not really sure why in the hell I wrote that, or what (if any) significance it has. It's just fun to shout. I think we'll all be much happier when we face the fact that the metaphysical world in which the Cubs dwell has no place for statistics and mathematics. Yes, Virginia there is a bit of sarcasm and frustration in this post.
  5. Get good players.
  6. I'm optimistic that the Cubs will be in 3rd place by the end of this month.
  7. You really don't want a ram and a rod so close together.
  8. How does this move help us get closer to this in anyway at all?
  9. I'm not up for looking for the thread, but a week or two ago some pseudo-journalist type commented on the Cubs being not as good as advertised because of their schedule. Soul and myself were just about the only ones who agreed with him. We were bombarded with pythagorean records and what not. Yet, the offensive statistics of this team show how truly mediocre they are. The sky isn't falling, but I'll be damned if there are some cumulus clouds at about 4500 feet.
  10. Its a nice thing all the stats disagree with you and we are actually still underperforming our talent by a couple games. BTW, those super talented Brewers you are so afraid of: still overpeforming slightly. BTW, where in my post did it state that I was afraid of the Brewers? Are you talking about stats like these? 8th in NL in RS 12th in NL in HR 10th in NL in OBP 9th in NL in SLG 9th in NL OPS You're right those numbers completely refute my point.
  11. Except that the Pythagorean Win-Loss statistic says the Cubs should be +3 over the current record (meaning they should be 58-45 right now). The team has actually been unlucky by a factor of three games based on Runs Scored and Runs Allowed analysis. So the team is actually better than the record suggests, not worse as you suggest. I understand the concept, thanks. I'm certainly not stating my opinion as fact, just what I feel will happen. I do not believe this offense to be consistent enough to continue winning at their current pace. It's a statistic analysis concept, not a law, and certainly not proof that the team is better than their record suggests. I certainly hope I'm wrong.
  12. I tend to agree with him. I don't think this team is even close to as good as they've been playing. I'm expecting a downturn in the number of games over .500, with a finish of 78-82 wins.
  13. This does not bode well. How many times have we all said this during The Hendry era?
  14. Bonds is going to break the record tonight against Hill. 2 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, and then break it in the 3rd. Cubs lose 48-1.
  15. Anybody know where Matt Lawton, Jody Gerut, or Fred Mcgriff are these days?
  16. I love Dennis Miller. Really just a misunderstood genius.
  17. Detroit is in need of a mediocre closer, because the one they have now is trash. I'd like to see Demp shipped to Comerica.
  18. how long until he's back in the rotation replacing someone? When is Sheets next injury scheduled for?
  19. Isn't Aramis 29 today? Yep, he's old, fo sho.
  20. There's also no denying that cat turds taste better than dog turds, but they both taste like crap.
  21. They've done great with some excellent talent. As far as DD goes, I do like the guy, and they way he has gone about building his team. As far as Leyland is concerned; he does the same stupid crap every other manager does that drives people (especially Sabr people) completely insane. He's been lucky to have some good young talent to throw out on a consistent basis. I mean, heck, the guy called for and got Neifi on his team.
  22. I know I've made promises to myself in the past that I simply have not held to when this organization did idiotic crap, but if this goes through for anyone short of Jesus H. Christ, I'm done for good. This team will NEVER see another dollar or minute of my time.
  23. I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting Ernie Banks in person and talking to him about our beloved Chicago Cubs. It would be easy--REAL easy--for players such as himself to wash his hands of this entire organization given it's track record of winning championships (or lack thereof). When baseball fans think about former Cubs, his is likely one of the first names to come to mind. Would you want to be that guy who's forever tied to 98 years of futility? Yet his optimism is so incredibly contagious it's almost unbelievable. He hit 512 home runs during an era when pitchers ruled the game. He was an all-star at two positions. He was the first, genuine power-hitting shortstop the game had seen. If there's anyone more deserving of a statue at any ballpark anywhere, please tell us who. Congratulations, Mr. Banks! Well said! I realize that most of the posters to sites like this are way too young to remember Ernie and appreciate the kind of player he was. When you've been raised on steroid-enhanced players averaging 45 HRs a year while forgetting about the fans and team loyalty, you just don't get the appeal of Ernie Banks. As you can see by my user name, I've been a fan of the Cubs for 53 years and Ernie was my favorite. I don't think it has anything to do with age. You can be young and appreciate Banks. And you can appreciate Banks without seeing the need for a statue of him, or seeing how this is anything great. I'd much rather they work on improving present personel than honoring past personel. Well, I can get a good look at a butchers ass by sticking my head up the cow....no wait. I can get a good look at T-bone by sticking the butcher up it's...no wait. Aw crap, nevermind.
  24. So since this thread was created the Brewers have gone 3-7. I'm no Stephen Hawking, but I believe that's less than a .500 record. Point being, let's not crown their asses quite yet; seeing as there are a few games left in the season.
  25. Can anyone do PBP or explain, my gameday is frozen.
