  1. How many of these will there be?: "How did we get to 100 pages about a Brian Roberts trade that hasn't happened yet?" At least 2, huh?
  2. "How do you half-expect something?" "It's just a turn of phrase." How do you turn a phrase? ?esarhp a nrut uoy od woH. Like that obviously.
  3. Dempster's career numbers as a starter: 988.2 IP 4.99 ERA 1.57 WHIP .808 Opponent's OPS 1.11 HR/9 4.71 BB/9 9.39 H/9 There is nothing in there that gives me any faith that he'll do anything good as a starter. I agree. I also believe that given some more time, Marshall and that ridiculous K/9 will see similar results. I don't like either option, but given the increase in WARP from DeRosa to Roberts, I don't mind giving away what I believe is nothing better than what we already are trotting out there. Marshall has something else going on IMO as well. His absence late in the season has me wondering. The problem isn't Marshall, per se. It's that when somebody gets hurt or Marquis/Dempster are ineffective....the Cubs go from being able to start Marshall, who has had ML success or Gallagher, who has faced ML hitters and has a decent upside....to having to throw a lesser talented or less ready pitcher on the mound. I completely understand that line of thinking. I guess (my belief anyway) that I don't think Marshall can sustain anywhere close to the "success" he had at the major league level, and Gallagher (at this point) is a big question mark as to what he can or will produce. I just don't see there being a big difference between them and say Hart, or another filler. Hopefully this will all be for naught as we acquire another pitcher that's a better option than any of the 4 (Demp, Marq, Marshall or Gal).

  5. Care to elaborate? Yes, people on this board need to take the blue tinted sunglasses off and realize this deal is a steal for us. We getting one of the best leadoff men in baseball, an all-star and another great club house guy for pretty much nothing. You guys are blowing your loads over the 2 pitching prospects that have showed us NOTHING. You really have no business making this claim. Sean Marshall had a 119 ERA+ last year. That is a quantifiable "thing"... not a no"thing" I'm not a big fan of the trade, but Marshall had a 5.84 K/9 last year, Demp a 7.43. That surely isn't a conclusive stat by any means, but I think it hints at Marshall not being able to sustain any real success in the majors. I just don't believe in his ability at this level.
  6. Steve Stone can tell you what pitch the pitcher should throw next. Thats about all he can do. So can I. A slider, low and away. WOW. How in the heck did you do that?
  7. You're a walking jaw injury waiting to happen. Anywho, I admit, I'm just spitballing and have about as much medical knowledge as Will Carroll(OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SNAP), though to be fair to myself, nobody else speculating on this stuff has the medical knowledge either. It seems logical to me that in '06 his shoulder was shot in ST(why he went on the DL). He tried to pitch through the pain, but as evidenced by the results he wasn't the same pitcher. ST '07 rolls around and he once again looks pathetic complaining of again an injury to his pitching shoulder. I don't see how you conclude from that that Prior's shoulder was A-OK, and he just happened to re-injure it every time he tried to throw a ball again. BBB, there's little doubt in my mind his '06 performance was due to intense shoulder pain. Are there theories that it's due to adjusted mechanics? Your other question, your guess is as good as mine, as I said I know pretty much nothing about those things work. You're dead on. Current research suggests that after an injury, it takes as little as 7-10 DAYS, yes DAYS, to develop scar tissue. Once that happened, Mark was in trouble. A "kink" anywhere in the kinetic chain that is the throwing motion will lead to compensation and additional injuries along the chain.
  8. How in the world are you a good comparison? You can't even take a punch, you wuss. You're softer than Miss Prior. Sarcasm, by the way.
  9. See, this is where being a degenerate gambler comes in handy. You can even turn a WAC or MAC thursday night turd of a college football game into some interesting stuff.
  10. How can any of you have a problem with this? Do you not realize that he'll teach our pitchers to throw a slider low and away when there are two strikes? It's genius damn it!!
  11. Of course you should. It's an NLCS for christs sake. We shouldn't have any ill will towards the Dbacks for the Cubs complete choke job. The Dbacks didnt put this crap team together.
  12. Who? Someone had posted that as they were coming back from Arizona in the airport, they had heard that Ramierez and some others had already left on Sunday morning after the game 3 loss. Pretty quick departure. I don't hold it against any of em...but that post kind of opened my eyes. Is he supposed to sit around Chicago and sulk for a couple days before going home? Baseball has a long season, and I'm sure that some of the players are anxious to get back to their families after the season is over. I'm suprised that Rozner didn't hold his Sunday flight against him, too. Exactly. If I was away from my son for that much time out of the year, you can bet your ass I would have been on a plane within hours of the game 3 loss.
  13. Thank goodness I've already put my money on the Dbacks before the line changes because of this news.
  14. This team isn't winning another game this year.
  15. While I certainly don't advocate the crap hitting strategy the Cubs have been using; the Cubs would have had about eleventy-six bombs if they were playing at Wrigley the last 2 games. Lot of balls hit right at people also. I just don't think you're going to see a change in approach at this point, so what the hell, swing away idiots, and pray for the best.
  16. No kidding. I love the whole "he didn't act like I would in that situation so he's wrong" mentality. As if everyone should respond in one particular manner to the same events.
  17. I dont get that about bosox fans. they try so hard to pretend like they're still underdogs fighting this uphill battle against fate. STFU. You won. Your fans are insufferable. I hope you all die. This is one of the greatest things I've ever read. I have a very good friend who is from Boston and a diehard Sox fan. This describes him perfectly. He is an insufferable "rhymes with stick".
  18. Heh heh heh. I'm not the only person who sees how bad ESPN is homering for Rollins lately, am I? I don't watch ESPN and I don't think Rollins should be MVP but I was laughing because Rollins homered minutes after you said that. Yes, he did. But in my mind he's still nothing other than a more powerful and better protected Curtis Granderson. If Granderson hit in that joke of a park he'd easily hit 30 bombs. He hit 23 playing half his games at Comerica, which is enormous. I agree though, no way is Rollins an MVP.
  19. Which is it then? You've made mention (at least twice in this thread) about a "change up right down the middle with no movement". I've got the game on my DVR. You come to my house (I'll pay for the gas) and show me even 2 change-ups that didn't fall of the face of the earth, and I'll give you 10K. If not, then you owe me 10K. Sound good? Webb never left a change-up down the middle of the plate. I think maybe you need to watch the game again or have someone explain what pitch is what during the game.
  20. Forgive me if this has been said in another thread, but the fat man and his crew are doing the SD/MIL series. That sounds promising, huh?
  21. Who gives a crap about any of it? Just win the damn World Series already. I don't care if I have to be the next Hester Prynne, just win it.
  22. When I started this thread, I didn't think there would be all of this discussion over semantics. My point is that Lilly has been the best Cub starter all year, has been the starter to break all of the losing streaks, and continues to be the pitcher who gives the Cubs the best chance to win games this year. To me, that defines the "ace" of a staff. I'm not talking about next year, who has the best stuff, his flyball ratio, or whether he would be the "ace" on other teams. Oh come on now Btb....if you said the sky looked blue you'd get a nice little semantic debate about what shade of blue! Anyone who knows anything, knows the sky is: Teal 12% of the time "Sky Blue" ironically only 8% Aqua 9% Midnight Blue 7% Black 32.6% various shades of the red/orange/yellow families 4% others 25.3% of the other categories "blue" constitutes less than 1% my knowledge of the subject is so far superior to those of you who observe with a crayola 8-pack mind. I see the full 256 crayon box. you are now on ignore This post should go up against 63 other posts in a full fledged tournament of sweet posts. We could like vote on it or something. Then the winner could get a t-shirt proclaiming them the greatest on earth. Seriously though, outstanding work.
  23. Staying home for the penant race? :) Haven't made up my mind yet. Got tickets for Sun, Mon & Wed..... but if they come up with a good enough load(s), I might just hit the road. After all...... CUBS are 45-33 when Hornkohl is on the road.... 23-31 when he's at home Go CUBS !! No offense, but LEAVE NOW!!
  24. Damn good? $100m and we're barely over .500, and he's been damn good? Or we could be the White Sox? Over 100m and in last place? Some guys find anyway to bitch about anything that happens trade-wise. We could get Albert Pujols in a trade for Derrek Lee, and sign him to a 7 year deal, and people would still complain. And then we could get Vlad, and people would still complain about getting him because we traded away our best prospects. it's never ending. (I'm not stating Monroe is anywhere close to the talent of these two guys, but give the guy a chance before you bitch about it.) Do you seriously think we'd be complaining if we had Pujols and Vlad on the team? Come on. I'd be complaining. About how impossible it was to get Cubs WS tickets.
  25. I'm not sure where to put this, so if it needs moved, so be it. I am looking for 4 tickets to this saturday afternoon game. I'm putting it up here because I obviously trust people who've been on this site for a while compared to Ebay or stubhub stuff. Anyways, if anyone has access to some tickets and is willing to sell them please contact me. Thanks.
