  1. http://i.imgur.com/VZHLVQF.gif I like it. Not as much as signing Lester today, but pretty good stuff.
  2. http://static.fjcdn.com/gifs/An+adam+west+channel+oh+adam_18bf08_3798200.gif Let me be more clear. Some of us like to read, and keep our pompous, annoying, rude, and generally incorrect and argumentative comments to ourselves instead of being perceived as asses. That's just me though. EDIT: Oh wait. Am I not part of the cool crowd?
  3. I've been on the site longer than most here, and I don't exactly have a ton of posts. Doesn't mean he isn't full of it, but certainly doesn't mean he is. http://38.media.tumblr.com/642ccc35b63bccec9040d89ab5e62220/tumblr_n3475mEnyu1rzik3go3_r1_250.gif Amazingly, not everyone who visits feels the need to wax poetic.

  6. While most of those are a coin flip; I believe this one is a guarantee.
  7. 2015 would be great, but without some significant growth by some of the young guys, and a big FA signing or two, I don't see how we're there before 2016.
  8. Exactly. Maybe, if we didn't have our top 3 starters each with an ERA over 5.50, we would be doing even better.
  9. By this you mean the lone dissenting voice has been sufficiently mocked and shouted down. There's no defending the premise of this book. It's insane. Bingo!!! Also, people have died during surgery due to factors outside the control (ie, weird, and random coincidences) of the surgeon. Thus, surgery has been debunked as bogus.
  10. if you just wait until late June when they're 9 games under .500 tickets will be cheap.
  11. Shut it!! Learn to bicker and argue over trivial crap; and have little to no respect for your fellow man. This is how things are done now old-timer.
  12. The source is ESPN, but even so, this article suggests otherwise. http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=6090382
  13. I have to say I'm very surprised at the results of this poll. I wonder if the majority of votes for the Braves rotation are from older posters and the Phillies got the younger vote.
  14. Well, technically, ho-ho's are NOT meat.
  15. HE ONLY WON 8 GAMES!!!!! He's trash!!!!!
  16. That feels like a lot. It does, but if you're going to deal 4 guys from different ranges of the Top 20, that's not a bad list to give up. Agreed. Guyer is talented but I'm not sure the Cubs would ever give him a serious look in the OF with Soriano locked in for the next 4 years and both Jackson and Colvin ahead of him. Chirinos is just a backup for the Cubs because of Soto. Lee's future value to the team is hurt a lot by Castro being at SS. And Carpenter is just another high risk medium upside type of pitcher. This would be an example of both teams winning. Tampa gets a lot of talent but the Cubs get a player who fits better on their roster and they also trade a couple risky players while their trade value may be at its highest. It's not like I somehow forgot this was true, yet, I still threw up in my mouth a little bit after reading it.
  17. Well would you care to enlighten me to as to how we should evaluate pitchers then, and is it irrelevant or not? I know you meant past WAR being useless for evaluation versus somehow being able to determine what the WAR would be going forward. It's still talking in circles and adding nothing but you showing how caustic you can be without giving a real thought on the matter. Because WAR is incredibly dependent on luck? And WAR itself doesn't measure wins or anything remotely close to it? Just stick with runs and your favorite FIP variant and you'll be a hundred fold more informed and better. Thanks again for insulting me for no reason. I guess I need to bump up my street cred and insult some of you guys. Insulting you? Are you going to suggest you weren't being caustic, short, and condescending? Even this post with the question marks is condescending. How about you just write the statement as if I'm not a 7 year old that you've told it to 300 times and I still haven't listened. Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of it.
  18. If Wells and his 3.1 and 3.3 WAR are blah and his 4.09 and 4.24 are blah, then yes Garza's lesser stats are blah as well. His K/9 got better by a full K, his BB/9 and HR/9 got slightly worse (.42 and .12 respectively), his LOB% got a little better while his BABIP went up and his GB/FB rate got ever so slightly better. Overall, his peripherals got slightly better than last year, though if his BABIP stays high that's not a good sign. And Fangraphs has Wells with WARs of 3.3 and 3.1, while Garza's best WARs are 3.2 and 2.9. He also has seasons of 1.8 and 1.4 WAR. The catcher thing is partially an explanation of why it took him so long to reach the majors, he spent the first year and a half of his pro career as a catcher. That could also explain why it's taken him a little longer to learn how to pitch at the professional level. How much of an impact did that have on his performance? I don't know, but Garza has had one more full season than Wells and two more partial seasons. It's Wells minor league history of mediocrity that does him in. While Garza was putting up more than respectable numbers against MAJOR leaguers, Wells was putting up crap against MINOR leaguers. One mediocre year by Garza, and one great year by Wells does not erase multiple years of what they have been respectively in the past. Simply put we have differing opinions on the issue. I don't think either will convince the other. I certainly would bet though that Wells and Garza (barring injury for either) will have quite different careers going forward and it won't be in favor of Wells.

  20. Well, I'm no rocket scientist, but I would say the people discussing it on a DISCUSSION board might care. Although that seems a little too obvious, huh?
  21. Those numbers are awfully pretty. On a one year deal with a team option for the second year, I wouldn't mind "finding" the money if possible.
  22. Huh? BR has him at 2.4 WAR in 2010, and an ERA+ of 100. I'm using FanGraphs. Greinke's FIP was 83 points lower than his ERa and his xFIP was 41 points lower. He was much better than his numbers indicated last year So was his WAR 2.4 or 5.2? That's quite a discrepancy.
