  1. I don't see why. The postseason is pretty much a crapshoot, and the White Sox have the makings of an outstanding rotation that could carry them through a few postseason rounds (or what appears to be a weak offense could get hot for a few weeks). And I like their chances of winning the AL Central, though a case can be made for the Twins and Tigers. That said, if I bothered to predict pennant and WS winners, I admit that I'd pick at least a couple of teams (the Yankees, the Red Sox, maybe the Angels) over the White Sox. I put these two quoted posts together to point out how hard we are on the Cubs and not other teams. Erik posted that we need a whole bunch of stuff to go right to get to 85 wins, yet the White Sox are counting on Andruw Jones, Mark Kotsay, Mark Teahen, Juan Pierre, Alexi Ramirez, and Alex Rios to produce as everyday regulars and Carlos Quentin to stay healthy and have a rebound year. The Sox have the starting rotation, but their lineup stinks. Just to clarify, I'm a Cardinals fan. The White Sox do have what appears to be a weak offense (I haven't studied them enough to know how their defense projects), but they're also in a very weak division (85 wins might take the division). Not that the NL Central is all that strong, but I think it's stronger than the AL Central. The following are the CHONE WAR and PA projections for STL's and CHI's starting 8 with last year's WAR in parentheses: Molina: 3.5 WAR, 490 PA (3.4 WAR) Soto: 3.2 WAR, 429 PA (1.2 WAR) Pujols: 7.2 WAR, 634 PA (8.5 WAR) Lee: 3.0 WAR, 573 PA (5.3 WAR) Schumaker 1.6 WAR, 502 PA (1.3 WAR) Fontenot 1.3 WAR, 386 PA (0.3 WAR) Freese 1.8 WAR, 388 PA (0.2 WAR--34 PA) Ramirez 3.4 WAR, 499 PA (2.5 WAR) Ryan 2.7 WAR, 412 PA (3.1 WAR) Theriot 2.2 WAR, 586 PA (2.8 WAR) Holliday 4.9 WAR, 646 PA (5.7 WAR) Soriano 1.8 WAR, 539 PA (-0.7 WAR) Rasmus 3.4 WAR, 477 PA (2.2 WAR) Byrd 2.6 WAR, 513 PA (2.4 WAR) Ludwick 2.0 WAR, 511 PA (1.9 WAR) Fukudome 2.3 WAR, 546 PA (2.3 WAR) That's about a 7-win advantage for the Cardinals. Of course, that doesn't include benches or pitching staffs. And, yes, it's merely a projection--both the playing time and value could prove to be way off the mark. I would love to see how those projections compare with the actual WAR numbers.
  2. Makes sense. Still isn't Demps more of a groundball pitcher?
  3. So oddsmakers have this games O/U at 12.5!!!! WTF? Am I missing something? Is the wind blowing straight out at 150mph? Two pitchers having successful seasons, and pitching against two turd-like offenses and the O/U is that high? There has to be something going on that I'm not seeing. Any ideas? (In case you're not familiar with over/under lines, 12.5 is 3 runs above any other game going today).
  4. Is that supposed to be a caption for your picture of Ronnie?
  5. The last 4 weeks of my life have been chaotic, and as a result of having changed practices, I can no longer attend the game. The tickets are print at home tickets, so I can send the email out. I am looking just to get back what I paid, The 2 seats cost me $87.18 total. Feel free to make an offer. You can also email me at bolrmakr@yahoo.com.
  6. That would have required me having seen the movie.     For Shame. gotta agree with badger here I've seen it twice. I think I'd rather have the Kerry Wood dirty sanchez special that Vance speaks of; than to have to sit through that movie again. you are a bad person You been talking to my ex-wife?

  8. Can you honestly tell me with no doubt whatsoever that no one on the Spurs has ever taken anything illegal to enhance their performance? There's no way you can say that with absolute certainty. I'm not advocating that athletes break the rules to win, and I honestly wish baseball was steroid-free. However, Bonds is not on any official "suspended" list. MLB has taken no official action against him, and there are rules in place on how they deal with these things when they catch someone. He'd be subject to the same testing as anyone else. If you can't support the Cubs if they sign Bonds, then I don't see how you can support them now when there are a few minor leaguers in the organization that have been suspended in the past few years for taking performance-enhancing drugs and most likely at least a couple players on the current 25-man roster who have done something along those lines without getting caught. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're a Purdue fan, right? Did you stop supporting the Boilers when they were found guilty of some recruiting violations about a decade ago? I know I wasn't happy about it when it happened, but I didn't stop being a Purdue fan. It's great to have morals, but to honestly think that there is a team out there - at least at the professional level - that hasn't looked the other way once in awhile when someone was doing something they shouldn't have been doing is being a bit naive. Purdue has athletics? I'm pretty sure the 4 years I was there (1991-1995) that they completely cancelled the football seasons.
  9. That 3.40 ERA would mean he put up (assuming another 100-110 IP) a 4.25-4.30 ERA from here foward. Not exactly stellar, nor someone I'd want to pay that kind of money to.
  10. If there isn't a kid within 5 or 6 seats of me, I'm keeping it for my little guy.
  11. So, my divorce was sort of finalized today (thank God). However, the judge could not schedule us to get in with him until Thursday the 12th or Monday the 23rd. Obviously, I want it done ASAP (it's been sort of stressful). I have a bit of a problem in that I have tickets for the 12th, I live 4 hours away, the game is at 1:20, and my "hearing" is at 11:00am. So I was wondering if anyone might be able to exchange with me (I'm willing to fork over some money) for maybe the Friday game or the weekend game/s onthe 13-15th. The seats are section 237-3, row 24, seats 9 and 10. I paid a total of $73.18 for the seats. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. You can PM me or email me at bolrmakr@yahoo.com
  12. I was thinking the same thing. DeRosa is awesome. He's no Izturis.
  13. Is it because you've been in an alcoholic stupor since your separation?
  14. That's awesome. Our team BA is 6. I'm still trying to figure out if this is good or bad. Damn it, where's Meph when you need him.
  15. There's no chance he'd play everyday. It will be a platoon, but he will still face a fair amount of lefties, and he will stick suck.[/quote] Seriously? Am I the only one noticing these things, or is it that I'm just a 12 year old boy at heart?
  16. Hardly. Edmonds wants to stick it to the Cardinals in the worst way. He feels slighted about being dumped, kind of like Grace did when the Cubs let him go. If Edmonds steps up his game like Grace did when he left, then Edmonds will be exactly as awful as he is right now. Hopefully Edmonds has some extra "wants to stick it to" inside him. Are you allowed to say something like that on this board?
  17. Especially if he never wants to have sex with her again. Not that I disagree with your "theory", just that in the real world it doesn't happen like that.
  18. So, take the Dbacks to win and the under for a nice little parlay? Who's with me?
  19. Why? Do they not use a strikezone in Detroit?
  20. sorry, Mr. McCready, but "gentlemen" do not bang 15 year olds Look who's all "high and mighty" all of a sudden. Well excuse the hell out of the rest of us who aren't so perfect. I guess the next thing you'll say is it isn't cool to beat up little kids and take their money.
  21. Why? Isn't "The Rocket" even better now that this allegation has come to light?
  22. He's like BFF with Mary Prior. Get it? See; he's like not tough or something. Kind of girly.
  23. Thought some of you might enjoying seeing this, especially with the top 2 choices. http://www.maxim.com/The-5-Worst-Managers-in-Baseball-2008-Edition/Seventh-Inning-Scratch/blogs/521/21979.aspx
  24. Are you suggesting you don't look like one now? I keed, I keed. Seriously though, I'm a bit concerned myself. I'm assuming/hoping he just needs to adjust. He's too intelligent of a hitter to hit that poorly for any real length of time.
  25. I was at this game too. I have my own video that's pretty funny (drunk). If I remember correctly, this was Clemens (going for 300) versus Wood (going for 50). Clemens went for 300 the week before against the Tigers when I was there, and lost. I was almost tempted to follow him the rest of his career since I appeared to be bad luck for him.
