  1. What's the point of even calling up the poor ole' adorable Red head? Wait a minute....Marissa Miller was in town, and Murton is in town....maybe the Cubs were trying to set the young man up, as an apologize for treating him so bad as a player? :-k With that said......trade "The Murton" before you kill all of his value. Dang.
  2. The problem there is....the Cards no longer have a Whitey Herzog, or a Walt Jockerty as manager or GM of the franchise. LaRussa is an overrated douche, who won on the backs of players like McGwire, Canseco, Henderson(s), Honeycutt, Stewart, Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, etc, etc, etc. And he micro manages his team, which means the pressure is on Dave Duncan to get the most out of his pitchers. In other words...the Cards no longer has the "superior management" they once had. Their current GM, doesn't have the track record as a GM, and again LaRussa may be the MOST OVERRATED manager in all of baseball, possibly second to Joe Torre. Eventually, the pixie dust is going to wear out for the Cubs, and they should finish around the 72-78 wins this season.
  3. You never heard of Tony Pena? No, this isn't the Tony Pena that plays SS for the Royals, or of any relation to that Pena and his father, Tony Sr. I'm talking about the hard-throwing, should be closer soon, Tony Pena. There winning right now, simply because Brandon Lyons isn't losing it for them. The sooner they switch Lyon for Pena as closer, the harder they will be to catch. Regardless of the numbers, Pena is a better bet for closer. So if they plan to remain in the 1st of that division, they should move their version of Latroy Hawkins out of the closer's role as soon as possible. Chad Qualls (came over in the Velvarde trade) is a good arm out of the pen, as is Petit. The got some good arms in their pen. You'll know the name Tony Pena of the D'Backs soon enough. They prolly won't, but they won't be nearly as bad offensive as last yr. Meaning if they make the playoffs, they would be legit playoffs team, and not some fluky team. But don't forget about the Rockies.
  4. Yeah, disappointing but not surprising since his whole family was rather pro-ND. I was kind of surprised UCLA made his top two. Oh well, given the circumstances, I'd rather lose out on the top running back in the nation than lose out on an offensive lineman. Any offensive lineman. Even a 2-star guy. Funny story about young Mr. Wood. A couple of weeks ago, Auburn had been recruiting him very for the lack of better word, hard. And a reporter asked him what he thought of Auburn, and his exact words was: "I know it's in Alabama, somewhere." That's my friends is the state of recruiting in Alabama. Very funny.
  5. The Bears current recievers should not prevent the Bears from drafting a WR. There is no guarantee that Lloyd, Hass or Rideau even makes the team---even tho I really like Hass. And there is no guarantee that Bradley or Hester (I want them to improve) will standout as a WR. But if a kid like Malcom Kelly drops to the 2nd rd, or a kid like Earl Bennett, Andre Caldwell, or Jordy Nelson is there in the 3rd rd, I could see the Bears taking a WR.
  6. Lets see Sean was born in Boston and his Family is from Boston, would I like to see this trade made??? I have no comment......... :yahoo: Why do you have to hurt us so............ [-( he hasn't been traded...
  7. .368/.403/.559/.962 Believe it or not, but those numbers are not Albert Pujols, those are Nefti Perez's numbers in March /April of 2005. So you're right David, just because Nefti was playing "out of his mind" in April of 2005, he should not have been trotted out there everyday. But to be fair though, comparing Cedeno to Perez, IMO, is akin to comparing Albert Pujols to Chris Shelton. Not sayng Cedeno is going to be a stud like Pujols, but like Albert, he is significantly better then his comp. Which means, Cedeno should be giving a chance to prove (and so far this season he has) he is an everyday player.
  8. I won't say that, but I will say Ellsbury is more likely to reach his potential in an organization that loves it's young players, as opposed to the Cubs who don't have a clue how to developed young player. Which is why I seriously doubt the Cubs will: A. Trade Gallagher AND a prospect for Crisp and B. Eat all of Crisp's contract. If that deal happens like that, then I promise you Hendry is asking for the Red Sox to either: A. Eat some of the contract or B. Give up a good prospect like Masterson.
  9. Cap'n America is simply too awesome. Dempster and Z are clearly the "characters" of the team.
  10. =D> I like it when the Cubs struggle, people change the Cubs to Cobs to losers, etc, etc, etc. But in games like today, they are not just the Cubs, there the Super Cubs. :superman:
  11. This is a good deal for Longoria and the Rays. I don't see how anybody can disapprove of the deal. Was it quick? Yes. Longoria will be worth the contract. So what, the Rays jumped the gun, but why risk him jumping to Boston OR wherever when he's a FA. He would likely make more in arby the next few yrs. So he took a "discount" for "security." How can anybody fault a young man like Longoria over that?
  12. Maybe so, but the guy was selling Cub merchandise without the organization permission, not to mention alot of fans found it offensive. I mean the vendor said it was his highest selling shirt, which means there are alot of people who didn't find it offensive. But there were prolly as many, or more people who found it offensive, thus they call the Cubs org, and the org decide to confront the vendor, and forced him to stop selling the shirt. I don't found it offensive, a lack of taste, sure, but offensive no. Would I buy it? No.
  13. Does this mean, Murton will play tomorrow? Hoping so.
  14. We're talking about the Cubs, and logic don't always comes up in the organization.
  15. What he said has some truth it, it's not just Cubs fan. The way he said, made him sound bitter, and seems like he has a personal vendatta against the Cubs. He didn't say what he said, because it needing changing (it does tho), he said it because of a deep hatred of the Cubs. It's that simple. If he going to generalize Cubs fans, then every ballpark he vists, he has to generalize that teams fanbases. In other words...he's a drunken, bitter old mans, who prattles about non-sense.
  16. What would happen to the other two games? Canceled due to earthquake. When would they be played then? During a snow blizzard?
  17. Eventually the players are going to realize they ain't as good as their April is suggesting, and by May the Cards will fall back into their spot in the NL Central. You can't rely on 4 crappy pitchers, and one good pitcher for the whole season.
  18. Kerry made a similar type statment, when he was pulled from the LA game a few yrs back: And he would eventually miss two months of the season with..........strained triceps. So if I am Milwaukee, I would count on anything from Sheets for the rest of the yr.
  19. Marty brass generalization of Cubs fan, is borderline psychotic. Then to say: That crosses the line into psychotic. To imply that Cubs fans "don't respect the game" and the Cards fans do, is a serious mistake on the part. Apparently, he doesn't do to much color commentary in St. Louis, or in Chicago, or he would realize St. Louis has as many douchebags as the Cubs. And the Cubs have as much knowledgeable fans as any team in baseball. For Marty to say this, means he has a personal agenda against the Cubs, because he sure as hell can't support what he says with facts. This is just hyperbole by Marty. Delusional, but hyperbole. I would say, "Go to hell" to Marty, but seeing as not to many people outside of Cincinnati know who Marty is, I would say he's already there.
  20. I like this move for the Rays. It's kind of quick, but semi-knowing Longoria while he was here in Mongomery, it doesn't surprise me that he sign a long-term contract. And with players salaries going up, then is a flat bargain for the Rays. While there is a gamble with this kind of contract, it's a well-worth calcuated risk. Not to mention by locking Longoria, the Rays eliminate the risk of having to sign some bottom feeder, crappy 3rd baseman to man the spot. I know both Boston and New York fans won't admit it, but Tampa Bay is clearly the MOST talented team in the AL East, and it shouldn't surprise anybody if they knocked either BoSox or NYY out of the playoff hunt this yr.
  21. Good move for the Rays. It is, but IMO kind of redundant for the Rays. I mean they have Pena/Floyd (even tho he is DL right now)Hinske, and Gomes already at the 1B/DH positions, so I am not sure what they are trying to do here. Another player that could help the Giants, slips past the "legendary" Brian Sabean.
  22. Tell me about it. How is it that Boston is ready to move on to Ellsbury, and yet the Cubs can't wait to move Pie back to Iowa? Maybe because at least Ellsbury's OBP is close to .400. Also, the Cubs have shown no signs of wanting move Pie back to Iowa, if they did I'm guessing Lou wouldn't be working with him one on one. Man hyperbole is fun! And if the Cubs acquire Crisp, where do you think Pie will end up? If the Cubs acquired Crisp, I promise Pie will be back at AAA.
  23. I think he's ready to get promoted to the Angels. They can't just take the Cubs AAAA players without compensation. Dave Littlefield doesn't work for us anymore. I know.........he works as a scout for the Cubs................blah.
