  1. I'd be willing to take Manny's contract off their hands, if they would take Marquis/Howry off the Cubs hands...
  2. I know some have been on this bandwagon for abit now, but colour me concern about this team. I mean when this team is hitting on all cylinders they are the best team in baseball, but conversely, when they are not running on all cylinders, they are Dodgers/Padresesque. The Cubs NEED to find the mildde ground between being really good offensively, and really bad offensively, if they want this division. Cause as long as they are wasting great pitching, they will lose ground in the standings. BTB, I think Rich Harden needs to pitch a 9 inning perfect game just to have the opportunity to win a game.
  3. Yeah, but when the Cubs win the game, people are not going to worry about that hit.
  4. This is a pretty good steal for the Indians.
  5. All we talking about his current return, or when he came off the DL back in May (when he went 3-18 coming off the DL)? One thing for sure, Soriano is a slow starter coming off the DL.
  6. I'll be the first to tell you I've never seen him pitch before today. That said, seeing his fastball today, it was anything but straight. I cannot vouch that it was what he has done in the past or what he will do, but it was moving a lot today. His slider was about average IMO, but if he commanded his fastball, I think he has what it takes right now to be a very effective ML reliever. Considering he has been a 2 sport star for so long, I think his development as a pitcher is still lagging abit. I see Shark as more then just an "effective ML reliever". Now that he is focusing on baseball, it wouldn't surprise me if he develops over the next couple of yrs into a #2 type starter, or at worst a #3.
  7. Add him to the poll, dammit. http://youtube.com/watch?v=6QPGqqLYSjg No  .........Hamil's Joker is too similar to his Goblin (either Green or Hob) character from the Spider Man cartoon series from the 90s. Who the hell wached that? I do. Besides I have 7 yr old nephew is OBSESSED with Spider Man. Besides, it was decent cartoon.
  8. Rumor has it (Mike Mulligan) that Hester's agent started negotiating near Berrian's contract. That's a touch high for Hester. I was thinking closer to what Antwaan Randle El got, if he had to get a good contract. But I still think a pay raise over what he currently makes, with the understanding that if he performs as a WR, then a renegotiating of his contract would take place would benefit all parties involved.
  9. Would be good for the Yanks. Would also make me hate them even more Normally I would agree, but if the Yankees can take Adam "Cub Killer" Dunn out of the NL Central, our lives and Cubs pitching would be better off.
  10. Jermiane Dye may very well be the most under rated player in all of sports. Derek Jeter says hello.... I kid....
  11. Look it's a tough loss today, but we are still in first place. As long as the Cubs can withstand the Brewers hot steak (keeping it within 3-5 game difference), I feel confident enough that in August the Cubs will turn it on, and bounce the Brewers from contention for the division.
  12. The question was never was if the Bears would pay Hester, the question is, what market do you use for him? You obviously CANNOT use the WR market to re-sign, cause Hester hasn't proven he is an NFL reciever, but offering him PR/KR is a severe insult. It wouldn't surprise me, if the two sides agree on a short extension (say 2 yrs), and if Hester shows he can be a WR, then they would renegotiate the contract to better suit the WR market.
  13. Dear Cubs offense, Please score 9458236598237954729057902395709279021840925 runs so that Marmol doesn't need to be used today. Um'kay? Thx a bunch, Cubs fans.
  14. How can you even consider Darin a bust, there were little expectations for him and he always struggled? Honestly, the only reason I posted this thread here instead of just mentioning it in today's minor league game thread was the growth plates reference. Everybody has their favorite minor leaguer they root on to succeed. Darin Downs was one of mine. And while he wasn't a "glamourous bust" like many others, I was just disappointed he just couldn't get it going. So, yeah even tho he isn't the traditional bust like Dopirak/Harvey and Brownlie (among others), he was a bust for me personally, cause I really had hoped he would be a good pitcher.
  15. Bring the skillet Cubs, today. Cause I feel like filleting the Fish tonight.
  16. The Cubs have had their share of busts, but for me two of my personal busts that I was disappointed to see happen where Justin Jones and Darin Downs. But atleast with Jones (along with others) netted the Cubs Nomar/Murton, who would in turn net us Rich Harden. As for Downs, maybe he can have a career similar to another X-Cub name Downs and be a useful middle reliever for Tampa in the future.
  17. Karma will play it's hand in the Brewers season. It wouldn't surprise me that the Cubs go into Wrigley North in Milwaukee and sweep the Brewers. I'm not saying it's likely, but it wouldn't surprise me.
  18. Hanley's one of the best players in the NL. I know, doesn't explain why they have beaten us 10 times in a row. I suspect it won't be 11 after tonight, regardless of what happened.
  19. Nothing right now, seeing as his sources are busy. But his sources---Bert and Ernie---told him they would get back to him as soon as they find the cookie monster.
  20. Fllowing the sentiment of a few posters, bringing Samardzija up now may hinder his development. To me it seems like he has been "promoted" due to the contract he signed, instead of actually earning it. I much rather see Samardzija stay in AAA for abit longer continuing the success he seemed to find there. If he earns a spot on the Cubs roster in Septmeber, fine, but right now I much rather not call up Samardzija when Wuertz is still in the organization. I know Wuertz has had a lousy season so far, but he does have good season under his belt, so it's no inconceivable he could bounce back in the 2nd half.
  21. Better now, so when they need him in September he will fade away.
  22. Even with the pickup of Gaudin, does anybody here doubt that Henrdy will not pick up another reliever?
  23. Only the Cubs can make being 16 games over .500 not be safe.
  24. Which is why, I expect the agent and his family to gently push him into ending this "holdout". The problem with Hester is that how you do you pay him? You can't pay him market value for a WR (cause he hasn't produced as a WR), but you can't pay him as a typical PR/KR cause that would be an insult. This will be one tricky negotiation (one in which Justin Cribbs of Cleveland will be watching very carefully, seeing as he is the 2nd best KR/PR in the game).
  25. So you are calling a 3-1 victory for the Cubs then?
