  1. I know what you feel, but I doubt Moehler goes 6+ last his last start against the Cubs. I suspect the Cubs will get to Moehler and this game ends something like 6-2.
  2. Thank god we didn't. Soto says, "You're Welcome."
  3. So esssentially, Soto gives Z---6'5 250lb hoss of a man---the stink eye and it got Z to calm down? Am I correct? If Z backs down to the "Power of Soto" then there shouldn't be a pitcher who will disagree with him, or face the "Stink eye." I'm calling it now, with all due respect to Jurgens of Atlanta, Soto will be ROY, or he'll give the voters the stink eye.
  4. Karun and Stosh are a couple of Jackson that had more interesting names then Jay. And they all have played for the Cubs at one point or another.
  5. I don't mind another 2 team expansion, but I definately don't want a NBA's "Vancouver esque" debacle in that I don't a new team having to relocate because of a fan attendance problem after a short stin in their original city. If MLB does decide to expand they better be sure then the two markets they would expand to would support those teams. Personally, as it was mentioned already but a team in Portland would definately work. It would give Seattle a natural rival and balances out the AL West. If not a new expansion team, the Marlins moving to Portland should work in terms of evening out the leagues and giving the Marlins a fresh start. It doesn't hurt to get the Marlins out of the NL forever. . But the problem with expansion (unless you expand 6 teams) is that if you have 2 new teams, that brings up the MLB Franchise total to 32 teams. Meaning there would be 2 division with 6 and 4 divisions of 5 team (and you just know the NL Central would be one of the division with 6 teams). So how is it fair to the 2 divisions with 6 teams when the other 4 division only have 5?
  6. Has anybody realize that since the 2nd half started, the Cubs haven't had a day off? This Thursday---August 7---will end the 20 games in 20 days the Cubs are currently in. And right now during that stretch the Cubs are 10-7....
  7. FYI here are Reed's HR and their situation: 7th inning: 2 R HR off Juan Cruz to tie the game against the DBacks on May 11th 5th inning: 3 run HR of Sean Burnett in a already blowout game on May 23 2nd inning: 3 run HR of Doc Halladay to put the Cubs up 4-0 on June 14th. 8th inning: Grand slam off Rosales that provided the margain of victory against the D'backs on July 23. 5th inning: solo shot off Josh Johnson that temp gave the Cubs the 2-1 lead against the Marlins on July 25th. 8th inning: 2 run (and I believe the OFFICIAL GW HR) HR off Sean Burnett in the 8th on August 3. All but one of his homeruns were either to tie up the game, give the Cubs the lead/add on to the lead or eventually won the game for the Cubs. So when Reed hits a homerun its' a "CLUTCH" homerun.
  8. Don't sweat it guys there is another Duncan (Shelly, Chris' brother, I believe)that the Cards will eventually get that will take over. Don't worry about it.
  9. What do you expect from the "All DH OF" of the White Sox?
  10. My issue is how many teams will be looking for a first baseman this offseason? Baltimore? San Francisco? Perhaps Kansas City? Unless Billy Butler can show why he was a former uber prospect. Maybe the Yankees. Maybe Detroit. Personally I would like to see Perry and Lee work on Lee's swing. For a big guy, he shouldn't be putting the ball on ground, he should be booming them onto Waveland. But apparently this yr, Lee has decided he rather be like Willie Mays Hays instead of Pedro Serrano.
  11. but, but, but wait a minute I thought getting Carpenter and Wainwright was going to solve all of the Cards problems and lead them to the playoffs? With that said, I don't feel comfortable with the Card lurking until they are MATHEMATICALLY eliminated. Which means this coming series with the Birds, the Cubs must go for the kill.
  12. cash We got back a backup catcher? :D Edit: NM, I see bukie beat me to the joke.
  13. The Cubs have ask for patent information from the government. Why? Because the Cubs are so going to own Moehler this time around.
  14. Exactly. But it also depends on teams interested. If Atlanta only had 2 teams to move Tex (Ari and LAA) then what kind of market would Lee have?
  15. 2008: 12 players on this yr's team have OBP over .340 (starter and bench players) 2004: 8 regulars with an OBP over .340 2008: 6 players slg over .450 (I know the bench mark really is .500, but still) 2004: 9 players on that team slg over .450. Not to mention that team had 5 regulars slg over .500 the 08 team only 2. 2008: 12 players hitting .275 or higher with the Cubs (that excludes Edmonds Padres numbers and Jim is hitting.276 with the Cubs) 2004: 9 regulars hitting .275 or higher that yr. I think what it boils down to is this...the 2004 team was built on slg and homeruns, whereas the 2008 is built on the OBP and a deeper lineup baseball concept. 04 scored 789 runs, and the 08 team is 580. In reality the 2008 team could pass the 04 team in runs scored. Essentially the Cubs have to average about 4.5 runs per game for the remaing games to possibility surpass the 789 runs that 2004 team scored. Considering the offense is average something like 5.27 RPG, it's definately possible. For good measure, that team had only 2 pitchers reach double digits in wins (Maddux and Z), with a third---Clement---getting 9 wins, and Wood had 8. Whereas the 08 team has already has 3 guys in double digits win, with a possibility that two more could join them. (Marquis has 6 wins, and it's possible he could squeeze 4 more wins out of himself this yr and Harden has a combine 6 wins between Oakland and Chicago. IDK if you could call either team better then the other, but it's definately a contrast of styles. It would definately be a fun matchup. All I know is this...the 2008 team, mentally, is stronger then the 2004 team, and is built better. Perhaps Hendry learned from the mistakes of the 2004 season?
  16. Speaking of Brenly, did anybody see on BBTN that our own Bob Brenly made Tim Kurkjan's "Kurkgems" segment? Apparently, before Ramon Vasquez did the 3 errors in one game then preceeds to win the game on a walk off hit, the last time that was done was back in 1986 when our own Bob Brenly committed 4 errors which preceeded his game winning homerun. Fun fact.
  17. Same here. And does anybody remember the yr in which Angel Guzman wowed everybody in Spring Training, and he was the "it" pitcher to impact the Cubs?
  18. oh wise one, whom are you referring to? probably the fact that the Angels are about 8 or 9 games above their Pythag., meaning they aren't as good as the record shows If you believe Pythag is the end-all be-all of baseball existence, then sure. I don't thinkthat, but when you are significantly better then what your stats suggest, eventually the luck will run out. Look at the 07 D'backs. With that said, I do believe the Cubs are the best team in baseball. Cause definsively and pitching wise, it's a flip between the Cubs and the Angels, but what separates the Cubs from the Angels is the offense. We're the 2nd best offense in baseball, whereas the Angels are something like 17-19 in baseball. That's why I thought that the Angels needed more then Tex to improve that offense. As for Boston, pre Manny Ramirez, I would agree that the Red Sox could make a strong case for best in baseball, but after Manny Ramirez trade, not so much. But again, I will agree with the notion that the Cubs---regardless of records---is the best team in baseball.
  19. I wouldn't mind the Cubs taking a chance with Clement IN THE OFFSEASON. I mean they've done it recent and to different levels of success. Again, in the offseason it wouldn't surprise me if Hendry makes a low risk offer to Clement.
  20. Why are talking about a country singer, and a tv fictional character? :D Besides, I perfer Gary Scott.
  21. Paul Byrd could be a guy who ends up with a team like the Cardinals or the Phillies...
  22. Well I did. I remember watching him play and thought of Mark Kotsay. Unfortunately, Colvin will prolly never make it pass AA. Another 1st rder that busted....
  23. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=225285&src=148 For those DYING TO KNOW Danieal and Ricky Manning as related......I cannot tell you how many nights I lay awake wonder if they two were related, it's good to know........And it is apparently, unlike TMac and Vince Carter, they are legit blood family. God what a slow news day for Bears football.
  24. Very discouraging. He hasn't put together anything more than a 3 or 4 game hot streak, then goes like 1 for 18. I am still willing to give him some more time, but expecting anything from him as far as ML success goes is probably not a good idea. Willing or not, I realize there's nothing to do but give him more time. I assume there won't be a promotion in his future, but, who knows. At this point I am ALMOST WILLING to just say, call him the left handed version of Ryan Harvey, but without the talent. I like the pick when it was made, but---sighs---the Cubs continued to go with potential instead of production.
  25. You may be right nationally (which I guess is all that matters), but I've really been more annoyed by Bama fans since they've been terrible. Many of them still think they're God's gift to college football (and, perhaps, humanity) and talk that way. Saban coming to Bama has only made things exponentially worse. Not all Bama fans think Bama is "God's gift to college football." But you cannot denied Alabama's place as one of the TRUE historic football programs in America, and for that we Crimson Tide fans are extremely proud of the school. With that said, we also know that Alabama, due to rat finks(Fulmer almost---index finger and thumb are an inch apart----got Alabama leveled with the Death Penalty)), and stupid boosters (Keller among others) haven't been relevent consistantly since 1992 whoopin of Me-ami. Which is why we went crazy when Nick Saban came to Alabama. If you look at the class coming in 2008, and the class he's got for 2009, I guarantee you that people on this board will hate Alabama again, and will put us with the Yankees/Red Sox, USC, Miami, Notre Dame of the world. I promise you this, as much as some people don't want to here it, but Alabama will be playing for a National Title within 2 yrs.
