  1. If this is a Jim Hickey thing, how is he compared to Bosio?
  2. I've never seen such horsefeathering incompetence.
  3. Yeah losing sucks but it's still like "Hey remember when we won the World Series last year?" and it softens the blow, but this is pathetic. At least go down fighting and not just handing it over on a silver platter.
  4. This is all so Jeff Loria can own another baseball team.
  5. Cubs are toast. No bullpen, no chance. I don't trust any pitcher they throw out there not to give up a run or a big hit at any given moment.
  6. Yeah but that wont break Buster Posey's leg, so...
  7. The thing about Stanton's contract is that, as a whole, it looks rough at $300mm, but the Marlins built in that opt out fully expecting him to exercise it. If he stays relatively healthy and keeps mashing he's going to opt out and get an even bigger deal. And the contract leading up to that opt out is extremely attractive which probably wont damage his trade value all that much. Only way he doesnt exercise that is if he inherits J.D. Drew's health.
  8. To get both of them? We'd probably need a new middle infield.
  9. I want you to close your eyes, and imagine something for me. I want you to close your eyes and imagine that Kris Bryant is at the plate. I want you to imagine that he's hit a weak grounder down the third base line and he's busting it out of the batter's box. I want you to imagine he's running as fast as he can down that first base line, doing what his manager has told him to do and Respect 90. He's cruising, trying to beat out the throw. The third baseman scoops it up barehanded and rifles it over to first. Kris Bryant is putting all his energy into getting to first base before that throw. He knows he's going to be called out unless he stretches hard at the very end to reach first base. As Kris is reaching speeds approaching 20 mph the throw approaches first base and Kris stretches as far as he can to reach that base before the ball reaches the glove. And Kris? Kris beats that throw... Now imagine that base is flat.
  10. My buddy who did a colorization of that Satchel Paige photo from before the board got reset just did this one of Mordecai Brown
  11. This walk-off Donaldson had on the A's made me a fan for life. Great bat flip. horsefeathers eating grin. Admiring the home run. Perfecto. 1:22 is the sweet spot on this video
  12. I got one. I retweeted that Ken Tremendous tweet last year so I'm kind of a big deal around Wrigleyville.
  13. Everyone's favorite punchline, Byron Buxton, has a 5.0 rWAR and a 3.1 fWAR. Kris Bryant, however, is still substantially better. Both at baseball and attractiveness.
  14. My 2nd half choices were actually pretty good. But also meaningless.

  16. My classmates at the school and I just took a trip to one of our classmates' parents house in NC and on the way back to the Norfolk airport we had to make a detour to go to a Wawa that our east coast folks raved about. I have to admit, it was pretty damn good. i'm assuming they have a beach house at the outer banks? one of my ex's stepdad was loaded and had several huge beach houses at the OBX. i miss that dearly. if you have the chance and if you enjoy tranquility you should try and visit for a weekend in the winter. there's like nothing open but a grocery store and occasional bar but the beach is just as beautiful and you feel like you are at a private island. Not a beach house, they were in Edenton, NC. Tiny town on the Albemarle Sound.

  18. I still don't understand how the message can get relayed in time the way they described it. When the Blue Jays got accused of having a guy in CF giving gestures, that's one thing, that's live and in the hitter's eye line. If I'm understanding this correctly, they watch a TV feed, someone up in a booth hits a button for the pitch type, which sends the message to the apple watch, which is relayed to the hitter somehow? They have literally seconds and I can't imagine sending some kind of signal to an apple watch getting there in time to do that. There's at least a couple second delay to that, yeah? I mean if they had some kind of box wired to the signalling device where it was being transmitted from, sure I guess... but a wireless transmission to an Apple watch?
  19. A lot of those 2nd place offense rankings are behind Baltimore, so they've been the best in the NL in most of those.
  20. Cubs team MLB ranks post ASB: Offense AVG: T-2nd OBP: 1st SLG: 2nd OPS: 1st R: 1st H: 2nd HR: 2nd TB: 2nd RBI: 1st BB: 6th (3rd NL - damn you, Joey Votto) XBH: 2nd Pitching ERA: 7th (3rd NL) WHIP: 6th (3rd NL) SO: 5th (T-1st NL) ER: 7th (3rd NL) BAA: 3rd OPS: 6th (3rd NL)
