  1. I love nonsense like that. [instert player name] played for a long time and never got hurt, therefore his mechanics were great. Except that Greg Maddux's mechanics were great. The comparison, however, is ridiculous, so I agree with you in that regard. Maddux was a control pitcher, he didn't need a lot of velocity to get hitters out. Strasburg is a power pitcher. If he utilized Maddux's mechanics, he'd probably never reach the upper 90's on his fastball.
  2. Because he's Joba [expletive] Chamberlain, he's invincible
  3. There's a cool little sub-story within that article that breaks down the mechanics of Greg Maddux vs. Stephen Strasburg here: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7726953/a-comparison-stephen-strasburg-greg-maddux-pitching-mechanics-espn-magazine
  4. I could probably make that in photoshop and slap it on a purple shirt. I think I could probably get a few grand for it. Cubs fans are stupid
  5. I'd see if they would overpay for Barney. Maybe the Phillies are desperate and would give up Domonic Brown for a package starting with Barney and a 95% paid-for Soriano. If only we could be so lucky
  6. Well, not only does it exist, but it's probably the most prominent hotel in the city. Is it owned by Chip Caray?
  7. They're spending that money to have him not play in the major leagues for part of the season. He's not gonna get fresh in 2 1/2 weeks, he's going to have to spend at least 3 weeks in the minors, and even then they already have a rotation of Sabathia, Kuroda, Nova, Pineda, and Hughes (with Garcia to fill in in a pinch). It's purely a PR move. A costly one. It doesn't make sense. I understand there's velocity concerns with Pineda, but when you got guys like Betances and Banuelos waiting in the wings at league minimum who can come up in an emergency, why bother dropping $2.5 million on a fond memory?
  8. Milwaukee would have a hotel called The Pfister
  9. I like how the Yankees have been all about pinching pennies to avoid the luxury tax and didn't want to acquire any number of pitchers/players who were younger, effective, and under team control for more years, but had no problem shelling out $2.5 million to Andy Pettitte on a minor league contract despite him not having pitched in a full year. Now THAT'S how you baseball!
  10. It made me feel like I was at a theme park's exotic/jungle themed area and stumbled into a pavilion to escape the sun and some corny ass douche bags in Hawaiian shirts started a congo line in the audience because that's what their job is to do and I got stuck in the middle of it and I couldn't escape and I felt like blowing my brains out. That's what that song made me feel like.
  11. I might actually prefer the Scott Stapp version more. That [expletive] is unbearable
  12. Felt like bumping this because I was reminded of this on Facebook today that no one has really talked about how good the future D-Backs rotation is going to be. It may not be as dominant as others, but 1-5 it might be one of the most solid in a year or two if things pan out properly for the upcoming youngsters... Ian Kennedy, Trevor Cahill, Daniel Hudson, Trevor Bauer, and Tyler Skaggs is a pretty impressive list. Doesn't even include Archie Bradley. D-Backs are gonna have ridiculous pitching when it's fully developed and ready
  13. http://espn.go.com/mlb/spring2012/story/_/id/7677629/octavio-dotel-knows-all-changing-places Has some pretty interesting anecdotes from Dotel (anecdotels?) about his well traveled past, and is a pretty interesting read.
  14. How bad were we likely before the addition of Rizzo and Concepcion?
  15. 1) Offense 2) Pitching 3) ???????? 4) Profit
  16. Which results do you think stood out? A quick run through makes me think that the bracket stands right about where it should right now. Although I would have gone with Pujols 03 over Dimaggio 41. Some of the seeding is silly too. Cobb's 1911 is a 12 seed? Other than Ruth's '21 season, there might not be a more 'video-gamish' stat line ever in baseball: 420/.467/.621, 47 doubles, 24 triples, 248 hits, 127 RBI, 147 Runs, 83 stolen bases. The Gehrig v. Williams matchup right now is pretty damn tough. I went with Williams on account of his ability to put up those stats at such a young age. It'll end up with Williams v. Ruth in the final and Ruth winning. Ken Griffey's 1997 season over Bonds's 2001 stood out to me. Same with the aforementioned Pujols-Dimaggio matchup. And yes, the seeding was weird to me. It appears to be seeded based on WAR. Griffey over Bonds was clearly because people hate Barry Bonds. We all know he he used roids and all that, but if you're supposed to go about things objectively, you can''t honestly believe Griffey's year was better than Bonds'. It's a spectacular season, but Bonds' 2001 was loony. I wish Piazza's 1997 would've been put up against a lesser year. Mantles triple crown year was clearly better, but what Piazza did that year was remarkable, especially for a catcher.
  17. Whenever I'm bored I go to the MLB video archives and watch all of his home runs and then I get really jealous that he's on the Marlins
  18. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/03/pirates-agree-to-extend-andrew-mccutchen.html Nice deal for the Pirates.
  19. Not just well played... perfectly played.
  20. The Cubs leader in home runs will be Joey Votto after he is traded by division rival Cincinnati in exchange for an old jockstrap found in the Iowa locker room that once belonged to Scott Moore, because Walt Jockety really likes jockstraps.
  21. I won an autographed Felix Pie bat for winning a home run prediction contest on some random baseball message board
  22. It is now. What a POS that Sean Marshall is
  23. If this is the case, then move over John Edward.
  24. So basically he did cheat, but it got thrown out because the courier is an idiot?
