  1. Dempster plunked A-Rod... caused some chaos http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:9580007 Also... why are teams still pitching to Miguel Cabrera? He boosted his OPS 9 points today. He's sitting a 1.141 for the season. His OPS+ going into today's game was 203... It's probably higher now after a 2/3 day with a 3 run homer and a walk. He's otherworldly right now
  2. not what you're talking about, but i like this throw a lot (and features michael barrett!) I like how Castillo walked into the dugout with his head held low like a little kid saying something to the effect of "Stupid Vladimir Guerrero throwing me out, I'll show him one day dog gawnit"
  3. i didn't even know he was still playing. For a 39 year old part-time player he was doing an acceptable job on a piss poor Royals offensive team. As a baseball player in general though, he's replaceable 53G 156AB .288/.317/.378/.695 91 OPS+ 0.6 bWAR That's not great, but he hasn't been entirely useless. But he's not gonna be difficult to replace or missed. 105 games is a looong time. He probably needs to cal it a career.
  4. Miguel Tejada tests positive for amphetemines, suspended 105 games. Might be time to hang up the cleats.
  5. I know Soriano is going bonkers and ESPN is really fellating him over it even though we've seen him go on hot streaks for years, but just for reference even though it's a small sample size and his numbers can be inflated quickly, it's still impressive... Before August 11th when his hot streak started, he had a .200/.231/.340/.571 slash line as a Yankee over 13 games. He currently has a .320/.354/.667/1.021 as a result of his hot 6 game stretch. He went from having 7 RBI to 26 RBI over that stretch. I know it's been talked about here a bit, but it really is impressive, and I'm happy he's having success.
  6. Brett brought this up in his most recent article that made me even more excited for Baez... http://i.imgur.com/vv49C.gif

  8. Also, since the beginning of August Brandon Belt has raised his OPS 69 points from .757 to .826. In the month of August he's got a slash line of .400/.481/.844/1.325
  9. The Dodgers are 40-8 since June 22nd
  10. Vogelbach is currently the primary reason I hope the NL expands to the DH.
  11. Oh, Wellington... http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/3048695/castillo2.gif
  12. The animal reactions caught me off guard. I ended up enjoying those more than the catch
  13. Hosmer has been outstanding for about 2 months now, coincidentally started when George Brett took over as hitting coach. Really flying under the radar because of his slow start (and the fact he's in KC, I suppose)
  14. Anybody notice what the once hyped Dodgers prospect Andrew Lambo is doing this year? Between AA and AAA 24 years old .282/.343/.581/.924 31 HR 92 RBI In AAA he's hitting .273/.333/.606/.939 with 17 HR and 46 RBI in 54 games. In the Pirates organization
  15. It is vindictive, apparently due to him trying to interfere with the investigation. Melky tried to interfere way worse. A-Rod is a first class dick bag, but I do think they're trying to make an example here. Problem for me is that they should have done this to Braun if they wanted to make an example of someone. A-Rod's career is practically over anyway. Witness intimidation, recruiting players to Biogenesis, and trying to buy records to destroy them are all a whole lot worse than creating a fake website. Not really, but whatever. lolwut
  16. While we're on the topic of strange lines... A.J. Pierzinski has been more futile at drawing walks than Adam Jones (whcih is saying something). He has drawn 8 walks in 332 AB's.
  17. That's a .174 AVG for the lazy
  18. Awesome! Thanks for the info, guys.
  19. Nelson Cruz had this to say about hois suspension: That being said, also sounds like ACES is a shady agency group... Nelson Cruz just fired them as his agents and the MLBTR article had this to say: They represent(ed) 6 of the 13 suspended players in the Biogenesis scandal. 8 of 15 if you count Gonzalez, who was mentioned in the reports (though reportedly innocent), and Cabrera (from last season) Seems dodgy.

  21. Didn't know where else to ask this. This might be a bit of an inconvenient request, but can somebody make (or if it's already made somewhere even better) a documented list of each league and how the league tends to favor hitters or batters? For example (these are just arbitrary): Southern League - Hitters International League - Neutral PCL - Hitters etc. etc. Is that a thing anywhere? I thought it would be nice to have a documented reference sheet to know park factors for each league so those who do not know the minors like the back of their hands can look at numbers and assume they are being inflated or deflated by said park factors. That way people don't say "Player A has a .950 OPS out of nowhere, he's really breaking out!" while those who know recognize that he's putting those numbers up in an extreme hitters league and know those numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt. Does that make sense? I think that would be useful. I recognize that this already exists for singular parks factors, as do others, but I haven't been able to track down a generalized chart. If it exists already that's great, but I can't find it.
  22. I remember when he was sort of a "thing" when he had his breakout year in 2009. No clue what happened to his power. Is the California League a notorious hitters environment?
