  1. Didn't know where else to put this, but it made me laugh... So a 2B they don't need who has a 27 OPS+, a back of the rotation pitcher who has a career 5.4 K/9 ratio, an OF they don't need who has a 30 OPS+, and a promising pitching prospect who is just now returning from Tommy John surgery and is at best still at least a couple years away even if he's healthy and performing extremely well. For David Price! I think we can beat that.
  2. Nightengale is less than useless at rumor-mongering, but both of those teams have had interest in Garza documented previously. I believe Cubs Den has mentioned an Indians deal would presumably involve Bauer. I'd prefer an attempt to get Skaggs, but I would not be upset with a deal surrounding Bauer. I know he has his flaws, and his critics, but he's still only 22 years old and has TOTR potential. Also, I had no idea Rich Hill was a) still in the majors and b) has had a spot in the Indians bullpen all year despite a 6.38 ERA. RECLAMATION PROJECT YOU GUYS
  3. Home Run Derby participants announced... AL Robinson Cano Prince Fielder Chris Davis TBD NL David Wright Carlos Gonzalez Bryce Harper Michael Cuddyer Friggin' Michael Cuddyer? They got Pedro Alvarez, Domonic Brown, Joey Votto, and Paul Goldschmidt to choose from for that last spot... and they pick Michael Cuddyer?
  4. I thought Paniagua was projected as a dominant reliever, but it says he made 4 starts in the summer league this year? Are the Cubs going to stretch him out as a starter? Apologies if I'm behind on this news.
  5. could just be a boatload of rain outs. Well then he'll feel right at home in Daytona!
  6. I think someone mentioned it on here somewhere, so I may be paraphrasing this incorrectly, but apparently Gomez had always had the ability to drive the ball with power, but the Twins insisted on turning him into a slap happy lead-off Juan Pierre type because he was fast. Sometime last year he supposedly approached the Brewers management and said he'd be more comfortable trying to drive the ball with power the way he knew he was capable of and they let him try it out and now he's the player he is today.
  7. A.J. Burnett is up to his old tricks again http://www.mlb.com/images/7/6/8/53092768/070813_burnett_rosin_ovx5vyqw.gif
  8. Joe Sheehan was saying something on his most recent podcast that for whatever reason, Cole is throwing few (if any) changeup this year, despite the fact that his changeup is supposedly his best pitch. Not sure if it's rumored to be an organizational thing a la Bundy w/ the Orioles or what. I don't understand what possible reason an organization could have for telling someone not to throw a changeup anymore, especially if it's considered their best pitch.
  9. Anybody notice that Yu Darvish has 151 strikeouts already!?!
  10. FTFY
  11. Obviously because he brought the #want. Ugh. Steve Berthiaume is not a good broadcaster. At least it seems like he's ditched his Paul Goldschmidt home run call. There's nothing more douche-chilly than hearing someone say "And that ball is Goldey, Goldey, Gone!"

  13. What are we setting the over/under at in regards to how many days before he tests positive for a banned substance?
  14. Cespedes is the one you can point at and say the FO messed up. I see this a lot, and, I don't know. Is he really that great? I don't lose much sleep over not having Cespedes. Is he great? No. But he's good, played a position of need and was relatively inexpensive. It was an opportunity to acquire cost effective production. And FTR (not directed at you), I would be shocked if long term Puig is anywhere near as good as what we've seen in his one month. I think in the end Puig ends up being pretty ordinary. He sort of came out of nowhere, signed quick, and no one knew anything about him. I'm chalking up his success to lack of scouting, IMO. He's got a .513 BABIP and has a 3.6 BB%. He's going to fall back down to Earth once teams start to figure him out and when he does he'll fall quickly.
  15. To be fair, Liriano had been really bad and unreliable health wise leading up to this season. Also, Pittsburgh's pitching coach is apparently a miracle worker. Seriously, who the hell is Jeff Locke?
  16. I was about to say I'd rather take Moylan, since he was pretty excellent for the last several years. Then I looked up his injury history. He missed most of 2011 with a back issue and then in that offseason he was diagnosed with a torn labrum AND a torn rotator cuff. Ouch. Didn't make it back until September of last year. He performed admirably enough in short time, but yeah, it looks like it has caught up with him. So I suppose Guerrier is the lesser of two evils here, in terms of potential usefulness. Honestly I don't care who either way. Like davell said, we're gonna end up DFA'ing one of them in short order anyways.
  17. Whoever Bonilla's agent was when they agreed to that deal deserves a gold star. To know that long after you're relevant and hung up your cleats you're still getting paid $1 million a year until you turn 72 is a spectacular fleecing. Here's an article about the contract. Was actually written earlier this year. http://www.celebritynetworth.com/articles/entertainment-articles/bobby-bonilla-baseball-contract/
  18. I just looked him up as I'd never heard his name before. Holy [expletive].
  19. Because Ned Coletti http://img.ksl.com/slc/2502/250278/25027818.jpeg
  20. What happened to Pomeranz? He went from being one of the better pitching prospects in baseball to being kind of an afterthought, it seems.
  21. Can't the Cubs just send Baez in place of Soler as one of the two Cubs representatives since Soler can't play?
