  1. Beachy likely made his last rehab start tonight, which means he'll slot right in place for Hudson if that's the case.
  2. That was brutal. Will probably go down as one of the more disturbing sports injuries in history. In case anyone hasn't seen it, Eric Young stepped on the back of his ankle while Hudson was covering first (Hudson's foot was in the middle of the back, Young couldn't really avoid it on the close play) and his ankle basically snapped exactly like you'd expect from a "gruesome injury".
  3. What?!?! Those are based on the numbers he accumulated WITH steroids. By saying if he was clean he'd be a HOF'er based on that is completely wrong. EDIT: If you want to use 1998 as the starting point of his steroid abuse, then here are his Top 10 similar batters through his age 28 season (1997): 1) Tony Conigliaro 2) Dale Murphy 3) Reggie Jackson 4) Jim Wynn 5) Jeff Boroughs 6) Roger Maris 7) Jesse Barfield 8) Dave Winfield 9) Bobby bonds 10) Jack Clark Basedon that, if he remained clean, he might've been a solid, borderline HOF'er at best, player.
  4. PED's were more useful for players to maintain their ability into their later years rather than becoming juiced up home run hitting freaks. The majority of these players basically bought themselves 3-5 more years of playing time and got a nice contract out of it instead of naturally regressing to DFA fodder. And a lot of them didn't start putting up these numbers until after their prime. They cheated to stay in the game longer and make more money, not to become Babe Ruth.
  5. I was just illustrating a point at how insane that season was, rather than making a case for Larry Walker.
  6. Steroids have nothing to do with hitting home runs, as we all know...
  7. The board last night was not submitting posts. IT would let you browse, but when you tried to post something it would stay idle until it crashed, then you could reload and it'd be fine. I noticed my post was up, so i deleted the others... guess that didn't take. A few minutes later it got the Server Error on the board and it crashed, sooooo I made some double (read: triple) posts
  8. Larry Walker's 2001 looked like this (rankis in National League only): .350 AVG (batting champ) .446 OBP (2nd best) .662 SLG (5th best) 1.111 OPS (5th best) 38 HR 123 RBI 14 SB 82 BB 7.8 bWAR (4th best among hitters) 7.6 fWAR (5th best among hitters) He was last in MVP vote getters at 24th.
  9. http://cdn.fangraphs.com/not/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Vogelbux.gif Any context for that gift? Reason for the intense batflip?
  10. The message board was super weird last night. Sorry about the triple post.

  14. I always liked being able to pull out the old "How many third basemen have had a .900 OPS or higher for the past 4 seasons" trivia on people who kept talking about A-Rod this and A-Rod that. I hated how he missed his 5th straight year by a couple points (.898). He had a .905 the following season. Would've been 6 consecutive .900+ OPS seasons for a third baseman, which... well, I don't recall the last 3B off the top of my head to do that.

  17. It's possible, but I don't think you can count on it. A "David Price-type" trade basically just means Price (don't want) or Stanton. Stanton's injury prone-ness scares me a bit, but I sure would like him on the team. But he's still gonna cost a fortune, injuries or not. Also, I can't see the FO selling off a lot of their valuable assets on a big bat when pitching is apparently their #1 priority.
  18. Also, I suppose it's notable to mention that the Cubs are acquiring a lot of useful pieces to make a splash in the offseason with a David Price type trade, are they not?
  19. IIRC, didn't the FO come out and say that they were attempting to make Junior Lake a super utility guy, ala Ben Zobrist?
  20. I was reading those saying to myself "Yeah, we get it. Knock it off, Jose". Then he caps it off with "Why did we love flubber" and I lost it.
  21. So with Olt and Edwards in the system, regardless of how Olt's season has played out thus far, the Cubs have to have one of the Top 5 systems in the majors, yes? Top 3, even?
  22. So when Jimenez enters the fold, where would he rank in our system? I'm sure it's been asked at some point in this thread but I don't feel like digging.
  23. Unless they trade off Valbuena and/or Ransom, September probably. I don't see the point in rushing him when Valbuena/Ransom is doing just fine and he's yet to prove he's capable of sustaining solid production at the AAA level.
