    Fangraphs and Baseball-Reference already standardized replacement level. That's not a factor anymore. If I recall, this was for offensive players only? I'm not neccesarily prioritizing FIP over ERa, I'm just pointing out that his FIP is just as good as his ERA. Verlander has a 3.59 ERA 3.50 FIP and a 3.86 xFIP and is only 0.3 fWAR behind Fernandez. [expletive]... Doug Fister has a 4.0 fWAR and he's at 3.66/3.27/3.52

    I know his minor league numbers were rough this season but we've got less promising arms in AAA than James McDonald. I'd snatch him up, personally.

    After his 7IP 1H shut down performance last night, Jose Fernandez now sits at a 5.9 bWAR. He has one start left before they shut him down. I'm having a hard time, however, figuring out why FanGraphs has him at a 4.2 fWAR only though. His numbers, even when you factor in FIP and xFIP, are tremendous. Feels like he should be valued more on FanGraphs than 4.2. His numbers thus far as a 20/21 year old...     If Alcantara continues to progress and make good on those Rollins/Reyes comps, I think Castro becomes the big bargaining chip, personally.

    Yeah, that was my exact argument. My friend tried to say Machado was more valuable because great third basemen are harder to come by than great outfielders. That is true, but Trout is probably the best player in baseball now as a 21 year old. I guess a more interesting question would be if you had to pick one young pitcher, who would it be? well he's not that young, but clayton kershaw. i guess after that, probably jose fernandez, since matt harvey's arm is falling off. I think that's correct, though I'd throw in an honorable mention to Strasburg, still.

    was intrigued, clicked and saw it was sano at bat, got very intrigued, read and saw it was a pelotero sequel and GOT SUPER RAGING INTRIGUED Never saw it. Guessing I should. I think if anyone likes baseball as much as we all do here they owe it to themselves to see that documentary. It's extremely good.

    That's Zebrahead. I really liked them when I was 13. Also the reason they're likely being used for background music is because they are pretty famous in Japan for whatever reason.
