  2. Hard to look like a playoff team against Clayton Kershaw
  3. For some reason I thought to myself "Uhhh, it blocks one of Bryant or Soler" then I realized we'd be trading Alcantara in this scenario and one of Baez or Castro can slide over to 2B and Bryant stays at 3B. That said, I have concerns about Gonzalez as he can't seem to stay on the field for a full season and he has some pretty mediocre numbers away from Coors, though his splits were reversed for 2013, oddly (though his home OPS was still great). Career Splits Home: .328/.388/.604/.992 Away: .269/.324/.450/.774 2013 Splits Home: .273/.354/.576/.930 Away: .332/.381/.606/.987
  4. I'd have rather picked last Don't be such a pessimist.
  5. ausmus? that pointdexter only had a career .251 batting average and he hasnt managed anything. probably shouldve spent more time in the batting cage rather than reading books paragraph single spaced single spaced single spaced
  6. http://deadspin.com/the-marlins-put-the-wrong-date-on-their-dumb-fake-no-h-1434201936 You can't make this [expletive] up http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ltsv9uPiJQ1qc86xvo1_500.gif
  7. And bring his brother back as pitching coach? Weren't we interested in this option a couple years ago? I was VERY interested in that possibility. And I've been wondering if he might be one of the better targets again. I think the job went to Sveum mostly because Mike Maddux turned it down and Sveum was the 2nd choice, was that not the case? Turned it down because of something to do with his children and not wanting to be away from them before they went off to college or something?
  8. It's pretty easy to see why Girardi may look at us as a better situation than that mess. Especially when you consider that half of those players might not even be there next year and they have no one else in their system worthwhile to replace them. The Yankees are a mess, and the fact that more teams are locking up their talent long term which is weakening the FA markets means they can't exploit it like they used to be able to. They can't build from within, and the money they need to spend this offseason the most is on their own players, which just brings them back to where they are now. The Yankees are a sinking ship.
  9. Yeah I think it's mostly because of the awful lineup he had to deal with. Prior to this year he had Tex, A-Rod, Jeter, Cano, Swisher, Granderson, etc. in his lineup most of the time. Their 2013 line up on B-R is a joke compared to the previous 3 years...
  10. The Yankees job is worse than crap. If they lose out on Cano they're completely screwed. Rivera and Pettitte are retiring. Jeter is more or less toast it would seem. A-Rod is probably gonna be gone for 2 years. Tex is returning from wrist surgery and has been declining for a few years now. Nearly half their roster will be free agents. Cano, Kuroda, Granderson, Hughes, Youkilis, Chamberlain, Reynolds, Hafner, etc... not that all of them are good, but man they are in awful shape. And this FA class is not impressive enough for them to exploit to fix everything. An even then they're trying to avoid the luxury tax so they can't go crazy... and if they do, they're ogin to have to go crazy on their own players before the ycan attempt to sign the Tanakas or the Choo's of the FA class. The only players they have returning next year that they can count on being out there and contributing regularly are Alfonso Soriano and C.C. Sabathia. Everyone else is either a health risk, a free agent, or a high priced bench player. The Yankees are in awful shape, and Girardi is probably smart enough to recognize it.
  11. How is your avatar so huge? I thought the board has caps on avatar dimensions? 2 days ago I didn't think too much about it. I'm just glad it was for legitimate concerns like player development and his dynamic with some of the players, amongst other things, and not the ridiculous notion of not being able to manage a bullpen.
  12. Yeah. Sigs and avatars are ID's for posters as far as I'm, concerned.
  13. I didn't realize questioning Sveum's job security less than a month into the season mostly because of the perceived mismanagement of an already God awful bullpen was the opposite of "meathead"
  14. True. They also need to retain Santana, do they not? EDIT: We're getting off topic, my bad.
  15. He got the Brewers in a position to a succeed and the team floundered in the playoff stretch and got released. He literally just got the Royals a winning record a few days ago and people are already calling for his head. He's also likely leading them to the best record he's had as a manager. The Royals winning % each month this season: April: .583 May: .286 (results in hitting coach being fired) June: .593 July: .600 August: .516 September: .609 With the exception of May, which they pinned the results on the hitting coach and judging from their results afterwards appeared to be a contributing factor, the Royals have been pretty damn good. Their average winning % outside of may was .580. .579 since May. Had they sustained a % on average with the rest of their season in the month of May, they'd be the 6th best team in baseball. Let the man have another full year with this rejuvenated team to see what he can accomplish. If the team regresses next season, then can him. But if they want to fire him now because he apparently has mismanaged a bullpen that has a 2.57 ERA, okay, whatever.
  16. No one ever said anything remotely close. You used Belt as a comparative example for a poor excuse for an "all-star". Some people countered with examples of comparable choices (Allen Craig; sneaky's post), statistical proof to suggest Belt has got all-star potential (my post), and that he's not even remotely close as a match defensively against Rizzo (David's post). As far as I can see we were the only ones who addressed your Brandon Belt analogy, and none of us said we hope Rizzo becomes what Brandon Belt is today. Like not even close. But hey... http://i.imgur.com/Y80vPZZ.gif
  17. Royals are putting together the best bullpen ERA season since 1990 or something. The fans are calling for Ned Yost's head because of his management of the bullpen but not for his "NL style managing," aka, bunting every chance he gets. That and the playing Chris Getz in an everyday role for a huge chunk of the season. http://i.imgur.com/FkXyqbT.png
  18. I was indeed doing that for fun, because like you said, that [expletive] is fun to think about. Fingers crossed.
  19. Crazy to believe he's finishing out his 4th year in the majors, is a two-time all-star, and a one time Top 5 ROY candidate... and he's still only 23.
  20. I wish Gomez was on the Cubs. :(
  21. Show me this incredible roster. I'll pay your bar tab for life. C: Welington Castillo 1B: Anthony Rizzo 2B: Arismendy Alcantara SS: Starlin Castro 3B: Javier Baez LF: Kris Bryant CF: Albert Almora RF: Jorge Soler I'll take it.
  22. For what it's worth, among full time 1B in the major leagues with at least 200 PA's in the 2nd half, Brandon Belt ranks as the 4th best 1B in all of baseball in OPS. He's developed into an all-star talent who gets overshadowed by guys like Goldschmidt, Freeman, and Votto (the 3 who are better than him). Belt is turning out to be every bit the player the Giants hoped he would be. His 2nd half slash line is .324/.388/.505/.893 and he's a 4 win player as a result. He'd be a very valuable asset to any team moving forward. Ha!
