  1. Chills, man. Chills. Shame he didn't pan out.
  2. I know I keep bringing him up ad nauseum, but I really want Jedd Gyorko. My kind of dream scenario is: - Trade Samardzija & Barney to San Diego for Gyorko & pitching prospect. Max Fried or Casey Kelly comes to mind (not sure how valuable Samardzija is in this deal given Gyorko's position and control, though.) - Go with an infield of Rizzo, Gyorko, Castro, and Olt in 2014 - Pray to the baseball Gods that Castro and Olt bounce back and have good years - Depending on when Baez and Bryant are ready (trade deadline of 2014 or beginning of 2015), trade Olt and Castro for MLB ready/upper minors pitching (who, I don't know); or use Alcantara as bait if he continues to progress (or Gyorko if Alcantara has a better long term outlook at the time). - Go into 2015 with Rizzo, Gyorko, Baez, and Bryant in the IF. Rizzo helps the others defensive shortcomings with his glove, and we enjoy an infield of potential 30+ HR hitters for the next 5+ years and the oldest one of them (Gyorko) is 26 (and doesn't reach arb until 2016). Not gonna happen, but that would be my dream infield. I'd prefer MLB hitting for Samardzija first before pitching, but I know I'm in the minority on that.
  3. That was, indeed, an interesting read. But... How can you grow up with a love of the game, surrounded by nothing but people who live the sport, and not know this? I think it makes a lot of sense that somebody would love playing a sport but not know where one team played during the Eisenhower Administration. He wasn't "surrounded by nothing but people who live the sport", considering he said his parents knew nothing about baseball. I was talking about the whole, you know, playing baseball in high school and then playing in the minor leagues with a bunch of other guys who have been playing the sport for nearly their whole lives thing.
  4. Are there other young pitching/quality prospect rich systems that Samardzija makes sense for instead? I feel like after they blew their wad on Dickey and the Reyes/Buehrle deal they don't have much left. Feels like Samardzija could garner a heftier return from a better system?

  6. That's some Rock n' Jock [expletive] right there.
  7. That's a home run for those of you keeping score at home... and 2 K's... and a 1-5 day all together.
  8. Almora singles to center to start the game Bryant lines into DP Soler K
  9. I don't really care about Trumbo, but Bourjos is an appealing target for the outfield, IMO. I can't imagine he'd cost a whole lot, and he's just barely entered his prime. He might be my favorite buy low option if he's truly available. At the very least he'd be a stellar defensive stopgap if the Cubs don't target Choo or Ellsbury this winter
  10. His fly ball rates are off the charts!
  11. If we're targeting someone from San Diego for offense, I'd love for it to be Jedd Gyorko, though they have no real reason to move him.
  12. Kris Bryant, on the bench, is 3-4 with 2 triples and a homer.
  13. He's 18, but he's also already in A ball and wasn't completely useless there. That said, I wouldn't want to trade a major contributing piece of the major league roster for an 18 year old who still has yet to prove his age isn't going to slow him down in the minors.
  14. Has there always been gold glove finalists? I'm getting notifications in a fantasy league that each position has 3 finalists. Is this new? If so, is MLB designating players that need to be chosen at that position before hand? Cause all the finalists seem like solid choices. That could be the best thing for that award, if MLB is pre-selecting finalists based on actual numbers and analysis.
  15. I was wondering when the next time they'd all be in a lineup together would be. Today should be fun.
  16. Jorge Soleckstein
  17. Jorge Soleriot
  18. Maybe that already happened. It would explain so much. Excellent. Meanwhile...
  19. I don't think anyone would argue with that... but who knows with the way things are going these days.
  20. The list of former American League GM's-turned-scouts can't be that long.
  21. Not even if there's a billion dollar pot of gold at the end of that rainbow?
  22. Silly question, but can the Cubs just buy out the remainder of their TV contracts? Or will their TV partners never agree to such a deal?
  23. Tanaka's posting + first year might be a push. Damn, that was my thought as well. After what Darvish got and what Lincecum just made... yeah. I expect multiple teams to throw $50+ mil at the Tanaka posting fee. Given the lack of good starters and the influx of money to a lot of big markets, Tanaka and his posting team are going to get paid handsomely. I could see posting + first year being anywhere from $70-$80 million.
