  1. That was Beer Kaese, not Beer Here.
  2. Lord only knows what the Cubs were offering to pay him with. Probably some Slim Jims and whatever was leftover of the protein shake mix in the clubhouse. Nick Bucks and Bunny Money. This was probably his reaction to the offer: http://i.imgur.com/ByaO3xY.gif

  4. I like Heaney a lot, but I don't know that I'd give up one of the 4 for him. And if I AM giving up one of the 4, I'd say Soler is the one I personally would part ways with first. Miami may like him because of his Cuban ties, but he also has a guaranteed contract which means they may not like him as a target, either. Who knows, but I would suspect the prospect coming back would be Heaney. He was ranked #43 overall before this season then put up a 1.60 ERA in 18 starts across two levels (A+ and AA) with a 89:26 K:BB ratio in 95.1 innings. I have to imagine he'll be ranked somewhere right around where Soler would be ranked. I know rankings don't determine true value, but if they're doing a one-for-one swap, that's what I think is the most logical one. At this point I don't see any reason to swap the other 3 unless you're getting an MLB superstar back on the other end.
  5. To touch on that, this is from a week ago... Not that Andrus isn't movable, but that $120 million contract 7 months ago probably won't make easier than if he only had one year of arbitration left
  6. You can apparently add the Diamondbacks to that list. Schierholtz and Samardzija should be plenty to get a package going started with Delgado and Skaggs. http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/11/12/rumor-diamondbacks-interested-in-nate-schierholtz/ They are rumored to want Schierholtz because they want a corner OF bat. I guess Parra and Eaton don't qualify as corner OF bats to them. Delgado, Skaggs, and Parra for Schierholtz and Samardzija?
  7. Got a friend who lives in a neighborhood near Turner Field. It is not a safe area. Can only imagine it will get worse once the Braves exit.
  8. Sweet, I was really hoping we'd target a guy we can pay $5 million to never pitch for us. New market inefficieny.
  9. It's not as if the teams are bidding without knowledge of the rules. If it's the average of the top 3, then teams will take that into account when deciding on the amount they bid. I know, that doesn't mean it can't happen. A system should be in place so that can't happen. A two team average would prevent it, obviously.
  10. The two averages seems more realistic. If it's three that seems like it could be somewhat unfair if the first place team only ends up paying what the 2nd place team bid. That's a real slap in the face. "Hey, we know you bid $40 million, and it was a valiant effort, but the people who bid $60 million? We're only gonna charge them what YOU wanted to pay in the first place."
  11. Wait, wait, wait... so if the top 3 bids are $60 million, $40 million, and $20 million, the people who bid $60 million only have to pay $40 million? It's not an issue of Tanaka getting to choose between the top 3 bidders who he wants to negotiate with? Is this new information?
  12. I didn't notice since he didn't play a full season, but Hanley Ramirez put up a 5+ WAR season (by both FG and B-R standards) in only 86 games.
  13. It's weird, but it's always a bit of a shock to me to see a player who I've always thought was white be black, based only on name. C.J. Edwards, Donald Veal, Chris Archer, etc. There's so few African American players out there that it's always a "Oh wow" moment when you finally see a picture of a player who you've only tracked the numbers of. Can't believe you guys didn't know that. Seriously, didn't you read any stories or watch a video of him pitching? I knew when we rumored to be acquiring him and a Google search brought up an image return. When I'm looking up stats I bookmark FG and B-R so I bypass Google, so I don't get image results. I can only imagine what people thought about Juan Pierre before they saw him for the first time.
  14. Oh yeah, I spent Christmas with Sam Lecure. He was my cousin's brother-in-law. He was married to Megan Willis, who ended up working for my cousins briefly. She was super hot. They got divorced. My cousin told me she likes the ladies. Not sure if that was just him taking a jab at her, though. Sam was really nice. I told him if/when he made it to the majors to watch out for Dusty. His response was "Oh, don't worry, I won't let him ruin my arm". The cautionary tales of Prior and Wood will echo on for eternity.

  16. I want Tanaka as much as the next guy, but not for a $75+ million posting fee
  17. Just FWIW... Ethier is the likely culprit to go, obviously, though Kemp hasn't been healthy in two years and is still owed $128 million. I wonder if they'd be interested in moving him at this point and eat a lot of his salary to do so? Also curious how high they are on Joc Pederson.
  18. When I was working for the Mobile Bay Bears I got to see Ryne Sandberg in his lycra boxers or whatever they wear in lieu of jockstraps these days walking around outside the visitors clubhouse when Tennessee was in town. I got to walk past a then 19 year old Giancarlo Stanton after he took some hacks in the batting cages. It's unfair how genetically superior he is to everyone else on the planet. Turner Ward, now the hitting coach for the Diamondbacks, was the hitting coach of the Bay Bears when I was there and I had to speak to him often because I was responsible for transferring video and corresponding data from the previous games to his and the other coaches laptops. He is a super nice dude.
  19. Right, the chasm between Santana wanting 100M and Santana getting 100M is the whole reason to laugh at that attempt in the first place. Why would you laugh at an athlete reaching for the most he can get in an incredibly inflated market? I'd laugh at the idiot who strives low and the teams that can't hang in the market. For the same reason you laugh at anything? I laugh at things that are funny, not business negotiations.
  20. I was about to suggest for balls and strikes home plate umpires can just wear Google Glass with a HUD that shows the strike zone and the locations of the pitch, but that article suggests something like that.
  21. My parents owned a health club when I was a kid in Bradenton, FL. A lot of the Pittsburgh Pirates worked out there during spring training. The good era Pittsburgh Pirates. I got to meet Bobby Bonilla, Andy Van Slyke (I played little league with his son [not the one in the majors right now]), Doug Drabek, and Neal Heaton. I actually still have a Neal Heaton game used jersey as well as a Neal Heaton autographed bat. Why an autographed bat from a pitcher I have no idea... but it was a black bat and the mofo signed it with a black sharpie. WTF. During the 2nd to last season Bonds was on the team (or whatever last year he attended ST with the Pirates) he was there and ym father was getting signed baseballs for a charity auction. He was asking around the other players asking if they thought Barry would sign some, and they all said no way in hell he would because he was an [expletive]. My Dad figured he'd ask anyways and he ended up signing the entire box with no issues whatsoever. My Dad said he was very nice about it and didn't mind at all. I also got to meet Kevin Foster, he worked out at the club in the offseason for a few years. I think his wife had family in the area.
  22. Brian McRae is my least favorite player in history for two reasons not pertaining to baseball... 1) My 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Thomas, was his sister-in-law, and that woman was a Grade-A bitch. 2) At a silent auction Mrs. Thomas and her sister, Mrs. McRae, happened to be there. Tons of people showed up and all bid on these really awesome sports items. Like seriously nice stuff. The one thing I begged my Dad to bid on was like a 1950's Topps Whitey Ford card. I think its book value was something like $50, which at the time for a kid my age I might as well have had $1,000. My Dad was the high bidder on that (at only $10 -- A STEAL!!) and a couple other items. There had to have been over 100 items there. Bruian McRae's wife comes through with 10 minutes left and just assembly lines all the items. Goes right down the line, not caring what they were, and just signs her name and puts in the high bid. Ends up winning like 85% of the entire auction. It's okay, though, my Dad was able to get a sweet autographed Donnell Woolford Bears hat. [expletive] Brian McRae.
  23. If this was true, then our front office is [expletive] stupid. I'm missing the logic behind this statement. If they are acknowledging that there are better trade matchups with AL teams vs. NL teams this offseason (bear in mind it doesn't say they WON'T trade with NL teams) how is that stupid?
