  1. But hasn't this FO always been in the "Never give a pitcher more than 5 years no matter how good he is" camp?
  2. I'm not convinced that will be a factor. He may not want more than 5 years so he's a FA again before he turns 30. That's what I'm thinking, but if he does in fact want more years, and the Cubs are concerned about going over 5 years, perhaps they'd be willing to offer something like 7 with an opt out clause after his age 30 season?
  3. Is it presumed the Cubs won't want to offer anything more than 5 years, as per their M.O.? Or will they make an exception for Tanaka?
  4. At least he can't be out for the season with a torn up shoulder in that position. Not with that attitude, mister.
  5. Doesn't sound like they're intending on moving Ackley though. I've also completely soured on Ackley and genuinely think Franklin is a more valuable player than Ackley at this point.
  6. I really hope the Cubs are in on this somehow, but I doubt it...
  7. "WSR to the Mark Mulder bandwagon. Your bandwagon is leaving the station, WSR"
  8. Didn't know Butler was potentially on the move.
  9. With this the Royals will almost certainly have a higher payroll than the Chicago Cubs. I don't think he'll be an everyday guy by the end of the contract, but he should still be able to fake it at several positions that he's not a black hole in their budget. Will this take them out of the Shark hunt, though? How much more room are they rumored to have? I know Samardzija isn't super expensive, but he's not cheap either for a team notorious for penny pinching.
  10. That's equal parts hilarious, amazing, and WTF.
  11. I don't think Rasmus can be had for nothing, obviously the Cubs would need to add in a player or two if they want one of Stroman/Sanchez and Rasmus. I was thinking something along the lines of Samardzija + ????? for Stroman + Rasmus + ????? Just don't know who else fits the bill
  12. Why couldn't the Cubs kill two birds with one stone and include Rasmus in a deal? They still want a CF'er right? He's only got one more year, so he wouldn't cost a whole lot, and if he has a productive first half he can be flipped for more guys.
  13. I just hope it leads to more over-the-catcher leaps
  14. Buster Olney and Dave Szymborski are saying the Braves would be wise to shop Craig Kimbrel this offseason, fwiw, though there's nothing to that as far as I know.
  15. I imagine Olt will be the "Some other guy" at 3B
  16. So would the guy we took in the Rule 5 fit this description? Charles Cutler. 27. Catcher. Mediocre power, decent OBP skills, what looks like a decent hitting ability. Has a nice career slash of .303/.389/.414/.804? Obviously he's catcher depth but seems like he'd make a nice MLB backup if he can replicate those numbers at the level (doesn't appear to be a full time starter).
  17. I don't know why but I can't stop laughing at this
  18. Now? It pretty much has been the whole time, the rubber stamping of these revisions aside. I admittedly haven't been paying attention for a while. The last time I really delved deep into the proceedings Tunney was being an [expletive] about everything.
  19. So the hold up is the rooftop owners now? Great.
  20. N&G is right. I was being sarcastic. You are making great points and I already respect your opinions. Saw some of your stuff over on PSD (I'm more of a lurker), I hope you continue posting. Sorry for the confusion.
  21. What would be the point of making the bid with no intention of signing? I'm not sure I follow that. Also say if you're the Marlins and you're trying to sell your team vs. the Yankees, you probably don't feel good about your chances to begin with in regards to being a more desirable location or offering a better contract... so you don't bother ponying up the money for the rights to negotiate.
  22. There you go with that jackass attitude again, being all politely smug with your statistical analysis and your facts. You got some nerve, buddy.
  23. Dan Szymborski ‏@DSzymborski 3 Dec ZiPS WAR projection for Choo: 3.0, 2.8, 2.5, 2.0, 1.4, 0.7 Dan Szymborski ‏@DSzymborski 3 Dec ZiPS only has Choo a 3.0 WAR player in 2014 and Steamer's got him at the same figure, so it's not a ZiPS outlier or anything. if i'm interpreting his other tweets right, that basically gives him 6/66 valuation Pump those brakes, kiddos...
  24. Really narrowed it down there.
  25. A while back Keith Law stated that a lot of teams would almost definitely claim Jackson if he were waived based on his athleticism and probably, just my speculation, because other teams might think they can help him fix his swing. Guaranteed there is some front office out there who thinks they have the secret to fix him. They're welcome to him. I know how to fix Brett Jackson... http://i.imgur.com/0UpSqpZ.jpg
