  1. he shouldn't start or anything. but i couldn't think of a more useful 25th man to have on a playoff roster with his ridiculous speed. This. I'd rather have someone like Hamilton as the backup OF'er on the roster than Chris Heisey, who probably has no business being on a major league roster to begin with at this point, what with his 9 walks in 240 plate appearances... then again this is Dusty we're talking about. Hell, they're playing a platoon of Heisey and Ludwick in LF it would seem. They have a combined OPS+ of 83. And 18 walks in 370 PA's. Oh, and Xavier Paul. I don't know what they're doing in left field. Some sort of three-headed bad-at-baseball monster.
  2. i mean, i admit i havent been following these playoff races closely, but didn't hamilton have like 4 games in a week where he came in and pinch ran, stole a couple bases, scored on a sacrifice and won them the game? He's appeared in 11 games. He's only started 2. He has 13 stolen bases and has yet to be caught stealing. In those two starts he has a slash line of .600/.667/.800/1.467 with 6 hits in 10 AB's, 2 doubles, 2 walks, an RBI, 4 runs scored, and 6 stolen bases. He has one less stolen base in two starts than he has as a late inning replacement/pinch runner in 9 games. Billy Hamilton is absurdly useful. Dusty is an idiot if he leaves him off the roster.
  3. I agree it was probably nothing but a silly gesture, and the bottle was probably empty. Babies teethe, they like to wrap their mouths around funny objects, I get it, the mother was probably just humoring the child... but given what we know about people in society who overreact, I don't see how an image of a mother putting a beer bottle into her infants mouth like it's his/her dinner would go over very well to a lot of the public who might see that. Only righteous idiots (most of whom probably don't have children themselves) would care. And there's a lot of those out there. FWIW, I don't care one iota. I just tried to make a joke, sheesh.

  5. Do you mean because every single parent that has held a beer bottle and a baby at the same time has inevitably allowed the baby's lips to touch the beer bottle and every single major leaguer has taken a floozy to his hotel room? Because I don't think it's fair to say every major leaguer has taken a floozy to his hotel room. I was thinking more along the lines of someone catching somebody doing something inappropriate in the background of a baseball playoff celebration on television.
  6. It's almost like that scene in Major League where Dorn's wife catches him on TV going to his hotel room with some floozy. Almost.
  7. I misread that as AFL and was about to go nuclear with confused rage.
  8. It's an 8.1 rWAR now. 2nd most valuable player in the game, according to B-R. (I just realized I've been saying bWAR forever and that's not right) He's gained 1 WAR in a week? Since NYCF posted that on September 14th, Josh Donaldson has a slash line of .407/.543/.667/1.210 Also I think when he posted that he was speaking broadly. I think his WAR may have been somewhere between 7.3 and 7.6, maybe?

  11. WTF does "consistent lineups" have to do with anything. He was given a god awful roster. It sucks. The Cubs have lost a lot because they have a horrible roster. I also don't understand the heat for batting Barney 2nd. Yeah, he sucks, but putting Castro there wasn't exactly leading to more runs. Maybe I'm a Sveum apologist, but you can't polish a turd into a diamond. I don't fault the guy for attempting to mix things up during meaningless games when doing things by the book has worked soooo well for the team this season.
  12. He's clearly broken. We should send them Castro for him so they can have another talented SS they can neglect.
  13. Is this actually a thing that Ranger fans are doing? http://i.imgur.com/IAfjrVi.png He's got a 2.76 ERA and 84 K's in 62 IP since the beginning of August and makes one appearance every 5 days. Who in the [expletive] is blaming this man for the Rangers' slide in the playoff race? These are the only two quotes I could get before the paywall... OMFG
  14. There was a stat the other night that said he's the first player in American League history to have 25 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and 100 walks in a single season.
  15. Hurdle, Matheny, Francona, Melvin, Showalter, Girardi A serious question: Mike Scioscia? He probably will be available. I wanted Girardi when we hired Svuem. I'll take him now. Dear god, no I'm asking because I don't know much about him. What's Scioscia's problem? Two words... Jeff Mathis.
  16. He's there to talk about Rampart

  18. Best defensive SS in baseball, huh? http://wapc.mlb.com/play?content_id=30684601 (kidding)
  19. How much of them are boneheaded vs. experimentation? And how much of these decisions have come in the beginning of the season vs. the latter half? If you're gonna try some wackadoo [expletive] better to do it late in the season when you're 24 games out of first place than when the games still matter.
  20. That makes sense given the direction the FO has taken at the deadline the past two seasons. Dempster/Maholm/Soto (even though he sucked) last year. Garza/Soriano/DeJesus/Feldman this year. They swapped useful/valuable/affordable veteran talent to bolster the farm system and replaced them at the ML level with cheap replacement level players each season. Not sure what people are expecting Sveum to do about it to make things better.

  22. http://filmdope.com/Gallery/ActorsC/4031-10931.jpg Touché I... who the F*** is that? I'm pretty sure that's the illiterate chick from A League of their Own who couldn't tell if she was on a roster or not. If I'm right, I don't get the joke. She can't read. It stated in the 2nd paragraph of the article it's who they felt had the best seasons. I asked if they think Vogelbach is the best 1B in the minors or if he just had the best season. I glossed over the part where it was based on talent and performance: I glossed over that. He posted the picture of the girl who can't read. Touché. Well played.
  23. ESPN did a piece on Abreu with scouting opinions... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/onenationmlb09172013/sizing-cuban-slugger-jose-dariel-abreu Interesting bits...
