    Relegation has nothing to do with it; in 2007, Dunfermline were relegated from the Scottish Premier league but played in Europe because they qualified through losing the Scottish Cup final to Celtic, who also won the SPL that year and thus qualified for the CL. Well that's unfortunate. I figured that situation had happened before but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the info. Is related bizarre news, Russian second division side Alaniija Vladikavkaz has secured a place in Europe without scoring a single goal. They have reached the Russian Cup final after drawing every single game of every round 0-0 after extra time and advancing every time on a penalty shoot-out. As their opponents in the final (CSKA Moscow) are already assured of a CL place, they thus qualified for the Europa league.

    Bruce Miles tweeted that he thinks that both Davis and Castillo may be on their way to Chicago. I dont know how many times, or if at all we'll need that 5th starter between now and when Wells returns, but better him than Russell. Hill out the door or to the DL? :-k

    So you want the Cubs as an organisation to operate like FC Barcelona, not like Real [expletive] Madrid? I can agree with that. Organisational philosophy is the key to this debate, imho. I too feel that Ricketts has said the right things on that subject (so far), and that there are at least some indications that the Cubs are moving in that direction. So the question should be (regardless of the years past): is Hendry the right fit for that (new) approach? And if he isn't, who is?
