  1. No. This is an Internet message board. The standards for behavior and civility here should be of the highest caliber.
  2. Seeing Edmonds raising his arms for a Cubs home run made me like him more. Gross.
  3. Is there a nastier pitcher in baseball? I'm not joking, either.
  4. Right. Personally, I'm not frothing for him to spend a ton more cash, because basketball works so differently than baseball. It's harder to just spend like crazy and buy a talented roster. I think I'm just more bothered by the principle of it. The only reason the Bulls have so much cash is because the greatest basketball player of all-time fell into their laps. I don't think it has much to do with Reinsdorf's skills as an owner.
  5. I'm talking about the Bulls here. The Bulls have more money than any other team in the NBA. Yet they ranked in the bottom 10 for team payroll last year. When teams make a ton of money, and it isn't reflected on the court, fans get annoyed. That's why people think he's cheap.
  6. Thanks a lot, Glendon, now we've got breast cancer on second base. I think that's the funniest line the Dugout has ever written.
  7. A few months ago, Kelly Dwyer (one of the better NBA writers out there) had a really interesting piece about the earnings of each team. The Bulls make $46 million in profit every year; the average NBA team makes $7 million. Link Dwyer has made much more pointed comments about Reinsdorf on some other blogs as well. While I won't go so far as to call Reinsdorf "cheap," I think there's some evidence that he pinches pennies more than he should. At least from a basketball perspective.
  8. Right. They traded Elton Brand for the No. 2 pick, right after he had averaged 20 points and 10 boards as a 21-year-old. The Bulls don't have a player like that. I wish Jerry Krause would have been that smart. Also, that was in a draft where there wasn't a player like Beasley or Rose available. The Clippers were willing to do that trade because Brand was better than what they thought Chandler or Curry would become. I'm sure it's possible for the Bulls to get the second pick, but I think any trade they made -- by giving up multiple valuable pieces -- would be a bad one.
  9. This is never, ever, ever, ever happening. I wish people would stop talking about it. I wasn't aware that you had a say. I obviously won't go and bet that it will happen, but it's not the sure thing to not happen you keep making it out to be, especially if the Heat aren't interested in taking Beasley at #2. It just seems like the NBA equivalent of the "Murton, Wuertz and EPatt for Dunn? Too much?" trade offers that sometimes get thrown around. Seeing that no team has ever snagged the first two picks in a draft, and that this is regarded as a two-player draft, and that Paxson is notoriously uncreative and boring, and that NBA salary rules surrounding trades are really complex, it's not happening.
  10. I think it's OK. One of the things I like about Lou is that he doesn't abuse his pitchers, so I think he's very aware of trying to conserve his pitchers' arms. This seems like it was a rare case.
  11. This is never, ever, ever, ever happening. I wish people would stop talking about it.
  12. How much have you watched Rose play? I don't think you can make judgments about something like court vision unless you've watched him play extensively.
  13. That's nothing. I egged his house one Halloween and he ended up hitting me with his car.
  14. I'm not sure about Marmol as a starter because of his lack of efficiency. He'd also need a third pitch to use occasionally. Maybe he has a changeup or something, but just doesn't bother using it in relief.
  15. Agreed. I thought he looked very good. When there's a strong wind blowing in, it makes sense to pitch more towards contact. It seems like he did that, which was a smart move. The only thing that would keep him from being a solid #4 type starter (if you're into that sort of qualification) over the rest of the season is his command. If he can locate his secondary pitches, he'll do just fine.
  16. WHICH IS A TERRIBLE, INEXCUSABLE SHAME!!!!!! /tommy lasorda
  17. This is good point, and you're right that it's often overlooked. I remember reading an article about "true height" that talked about how Tyrus Thomas plays like a seven-footer because of his wingspan and jumping ability. Here's the link: http://www.82games.com/trueheight.htm I'd be interested to know how this applies to Beasley.
  18. Creepy.
  19. Why? So we can hear him say over and over that he'd throw a slider low and away? Stoney was smug, and it got old after a while.
  20. No, that's Ron Santo, dummy.
  21. Right. This is why I don't think the "bad team" argument means anything. He scored 26 points a game, on 17 shots per game. That's very good for a big man. I'm still hoping for Rose, but I don't think people should be frothing mad if we wind up with Beasley. I think Pax usually does a pretty decent job in the draft, so I trust him here.
  22. Watt kind of student was he?
  23. So why does everyone think Hendry loves Soto and Theriot, but hates Pie, Murton and Hill? There's no common thread among them.
  24. That's hilarious. Never heard anyone make a play off the Angels' name before. Today's article: Man, he sucks.
