  1. If Matt could slug above .400 against AAA pitching, I'd be more willing.
  2. yes, please. Its interesting. Can Hoff play LF? Can Bonds play LF? Nope.
  3. Sure. Why not?
  4. 101 reasons not to get too giggly about a Cubs World Series. This is just awful. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/991022,CST-SPT-gordo06.article
  5. says who? Derwood?
  6. What's your thinking for that? The Phillies can hammer the ball, but they pretty much have one starter.
  7. He's also signed through 2012 at a very reasonable cost. He's not going anywhere.
  8. Doc Rivers? Give the Bulls Garnett, Pierce, and Ray Ray and you can bring in one of the janitors to coach. Well you just proved my own point for me. The NBA is more about the players than it is the coach. You have to have talent. By the way, Doc Rivers won Coach of the Year without Garnett, Pierce, and Ray Ray, with no prior experience. Doc Rivers is a terrible coach.
  9. Sean: Hey Jim, you were really impressive in center field today Jim: Thanks, you were really impressive in the shower. You know, dong wise. Hmmm.
  10. I love that the best argument made for Del Negro is that he hasn't had a chance to fail yet. Aim high, guys! It's kind of like how many Cubs fans love prospects because the prospects haven't sucked yet in the majors. Throwing a guy with absolutely zero bench experience - anywhere - into an NBA coaching job is madness. He'll have no clue about rotations, in-game management, etc.
  11. If, for whatever reason, Z couldn't pitch anymore, I have no doubt he could go down to the minors for a year or two and come back up as a position player. He'd make Rick Ankiel look like Jose Macias.
  12. awesome! Those threads were the best part of 2006...of course there really weren't any good parts to 2006. There was one good part to 2006...the part when they announced Dusty had officially managed his last game for the Cubs... Don't forget that MacPhail left that year, too. That was probably just as great as Dusty leaving.
  13. Casey would be my personal choice at this point, however, why don't they just wait another few days till the finals are over and interview Tom Thibodeau? At this point what is the harm in waiting? I personally dont like Thibodeau. I think the fact that the Celtics actually have very good players has given Thibodeau his "name". But I do feel the job will be Caseys. Thibodeau came over to the Celtics just this year. He's probably been more responsible for their defensive success than any of the new players. He had been with Houston for the previous few years, and they always had a good defense. Prior to that, he was in charge of the defense for the Knicks, when they held 33 straight teams under 100 points. I have some reservations about his offensive knowledge, but he definitely knows defense. All that said, I agree with you that it will be Casey.
  14. I like that the Cubs are using later rounds to take some higher-upside guys, due to injury or whatever. There have been a few roster-filler speedster types, but I like several of the choices that have been made today.
  15. Seems like we're loading up on pitchers a little bit more this year.
  16. From a broadcasting standpoint, I agree 100%. As a fan though, you have to appreciate his genuine enthusiasm and love for the Cubs. His enthusiasm for the game in big moments? Sure. But for the 10 times a year we get to hear him yell "YES!", there's 10 times a game where his stupid, rambling, incoherent stories cause Pat to ignore three plate appearances. Uhhhhhh, I've got a fax here from uhhhhhhhhhh, Jimmy in Waukegan, and uhhhhhhhhhh....
  17. Team leader in homers and walks. I'll take that.
  18. I know. It's amazing how many people here have consistently watched these players and been able to form knowledgeable opinions, based on extensive scouting.
  19. He could be even more valuable as a starter........ This has been covered elsewhere, but that's not necessarily true.
  20. I think having Carlos Marmol on our team has shown us how valuable a high-leverage reliever can be. I am not saying he's as good as Marmol, but a great reliever is very, very valuable. Cashner certainly has the stuff to be very good.
  21. I kind of really hope that Lou demanded the Cubs draft a reliever in the first to help fill the inevitable 15 man bullpen. I wouldn't be surprised if Lou didn't even know the draft was today.
  22. Dude, has Rich Hill ever farted in a teammate's face? That's what shows Maddux's inner fire.
