  1. gee, the guy who spent 2/3 of the season on the IL isn't getting the job done in his 2nd inning of work? who could have guessed...
  2. just go ahead and throw one to the backstop already
  3. I'd almost forgotten that sometimes baseball can be fun
  4. Williams has a cannon
  5. Happ has 2.2 WAR and Nico is at 1.4, my back of the napkin math says that's slightly below what their contract says they're worth for the year, with a month and a half of baseball left to play. They're not great players. And it would be nice if both made a little less. But they're both pretty good players, they just look worse because of how they accumulate their value (Happ isn't a HR hitter, runs extremely hot and cold, Nico has no power to speak of) and because the rest of the lineup has struggled outside of Seiya being fairly consistent
  6. Fair enough, being at the game certainly makes it a different experience. And I don't disagree that we've taken strike 3 entirely too many times this year.
  7. He took ball 4 on a 3-1 pitch that literally was never in the zone but gor called a strike. I don't know what you want him to do.
  8. I agree that he's probably not totally healthy... but if he's just a 2-3 inning guy out of the pen, that's really valuable to have with a rotation that will likely rely on a young guy or two next year
  9. tagged him in the face! that throw makes up for the misplay of the chopper
  10. I'm cool with Bote sticking around, but only at league minimum or slightly above, which means he probably won't stick around
  11. From The Athletic this morning. They did power rankings and listed one thing each team could use that wasn't a trade... for the Cubs it was 2023 Cody Bellinger
  12. Ok, so it's more accurate to say the numbers were part of the reason. Point is, Rizzo is just one of many young players who struggled in their first MLB action amd rebounded to have very good careers and PCA doesn't even need to be as good a hitter as Rizzo to be a 4+ WAR player
  13. I've got nothing but feelings to back this up, but I think it does matter. Having stars in your lineup changes the calculus for every other player. Yes, if the rest of the team sucks you can bat Trout and Ohtani 2/3 and still not be a good team, but an average to above average lineup (like the Cubs last year) is significantly improved by adding a Soto-level bat.
  14. I'm not saying PCA will be Rizzo, obviously they're different hitters, but b2b your logic is what led the Padres to get rid of Rizzo after his first crack at MLB that looked like this: Year Age Tm Lg G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB Pos Awards 2011 21 SDP NL 49 153 128 9 18 8 1 1 9 2 1 21 46 .141 .281 .242 .523 51 31 2 4 0 0 1 3/H
  15. if you removed every loss except the 2 14 game losing streaks, and kept the wins... their record would still be below .500
  16. nah, it's too consistent. It's his own brand of thinking for sure...
