  1. tagged him in the face! that throw makes up for the misplay of the chopper
  2. I'm cool with Bote sticking around, but only at league minimum or slightly above, which means he probably won't stick around
  3. From The Athletic this morning. They did power rankings and listed one thing each team could use that wasn't a trade... for the Cubs it was 2023 Cody Bellinger
  4. Ok, so it's more accurate to say the numbers were part of the reason. Point is, Rizzo is just one of many young players who struggled in their first MLB action amd rebounded to have very good careers and PCA doesn't even need to be as good a hitter as Rizzo to be a 4+ WAR player
  5. I've got nothing but feelings to back this up, but I think it does matter. Having stars in your lineup changes the calculus for every other player. Yes, if the rest of the team sucks you can bat Trout and Ohtani 2/3 and still not be a good team, but an average to above average lineup (like the Cubs last year) is significantly improved by adding a Soto-level bat.
  6. I'm not saying PCA will be Rizzo, obviously they're different hitters, but b2b your logic is what led the Padres to get rid of Rizzo after his first crack at MLB that looked like this: Year Age Tm Lg G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB Pos Awards 2011 21 SDP NL 49 153 128 9 18 8 1 1 9 2 1 21 46 .141 .281 .242 .523 51 31 2 4 0 0 1 3/H
  7. if you removed every loss except the 2 14 game losing streaks, and kept the wins... their record would still be below .500
  8. nah, it's too consistent. It's his own brand of thinking for sure...
  9. Yeah, if PCA can run a 90 ops+ he's insanely valuable. Heck, he already has 1.2 WAR according to Baseball reference (1.4 defensive). That defensive WAR is tied for 10th in all of baseball, despite him playing 30 or more games less than the guys above him. Dalton Varsho was worth 3.9 WAR last year while running an 84 ops+. He had 2.8 in defensive WAR. That's what I think PA'S near term potential is.
  10. As they should be
  11. Even if they're not HRs, I feel that a lot of balls into that corner are still going to be doubles
  12. I wonder how much a change of scenery would help a guy like Robert. Honestly it's gotta be hard playing on a team that bad.
  13. yeah, one trip to the IL, or a week with only an appearance or two and he's not going to hit it
  14. Cubs clearly hated Morel and are now playing better since he's been traded
  15. Watched some Rugby 7s the past couple days, fun stuff.
  16. More teams wanting him = better prospect coming back... in theory. Or they're all interested because Jed is only asking for an 18 y/o MIF or a 25 y/o reliver who strikes a lot of guys out, but also walks 2 batters/inning
  17. Is this a precursor to them moving an MLB Outfielder and calling someone up? Did Canario tear his hammy and they wanted depth? Who knows!
  18. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5656143/2024/07/25/mlb-top-prospects-2024-jackson-holliday/ Keith Law's update Matt Shaw at 17 Kevin Alcantara at 27 Cade Horton at 36 Mo Baller at 54
