  1. People here tend not to do that. It's an annoying habit. I get so [expletive] tired of this reading comprehension [expletive]. It's an internet message board, there's at least as good of odds that the author's post is less clear than they believe it to be as there is some failure of the audience to be able to read. Derwood - if you give a [expletive] what JoePa's intentions were, then you're not as disgusted as most (everyone?). He damn well intended not to use all his power to stop this. You think he intended to, but what, forgot to bring it up? Forgot he's the most powerful person in the damn town? His intentions were not to put an end to the abuse of children and that's clear from his failure to use his enormous power to do so. All I'm saying is that whether he was actively hiding what he knew from authorities or was naively assuming someone else would take care of it, the results were still horrifying. If a bartender keeps serving a drunk guy shots all night and that guy leaves the bar and kills himself in his car, it doesn't matter if the bartender intended for him to die. Whether the bartender was just helping the guy have a good time or was purposely putting the guy in harm's way, the result is the same: dead drunk guy. All that said, I understand that everyone (including me) is angry and horrified and want answers. There's nothing wrong with questioning Paterno's intentions....I'd like to know myself.
  2. We sure as [expletive] can figure out what his intentions weren't. But who cares? Regardless of his intentions, the results were the same.
  3. If you think I'm supporting Paterno here you're not reading very carefully
  4. a) What is the precedent for punishment when a coach commits an immoral (but not illegal) act that is unrelated to the current team? b) I have no idea what his intentions were, and neither do you
  5. As I said in the Rants thread, burn it to the ground
  6. Penn State can't go into Wisconsin at 6-1 with the Badgers 5-2. PSU's only hope is to beat NEB and OSU and leave that last game as academic. But who am I fooling, they're losing out
  7. are you saying I'm among the "minus 2"? Because I'm not arguing that JoePa should stay. I'm in the "burn it to the ground" camp in terms of the administration. The only thing I'm arguing is that a) the football team doesn't deserve to be punished for this and b) despite the outcome, I don't think Paterno's intentions were malicious (and yes, I'm aware that his intentions mean jack [expletive])
  8. a quick look at the remaining schedules for the B1G contenders: LEGENDS MSU: 7-2 (4-1): @IWA, IU, @NW UM: 7-2 (3-2): @UI, NEB, OSU NEB: 7-2 (3-2): @PSU, @UM, IWA IWA: 6-3 (3-2): MSU, @PUR, @NEB Michigan State clearly has the easiest road to Indy, though Nebraska could easily run the table. LEADERS PSU: 8-1 (5-0): NEB, @OSU, @WIS WIS: 7-2 (3-2): @MIN, @UI, PSU OSU: 6-3 (3-2): @PUR, PSU, @UM UI: 6-3 (2-3): UM, WIS, @MIN Though PSU is in the driver's seat, they have the hardest remaining schedule of any B1G team. Add in the [expletive] storm of controversy, and they could easily lose out. After a rough start, the Buckeyes could run the table and sneak their way to the title game, while Wisconsin could right the ship and get there as well. Illinois is on the outside looking in
  9. How much money have they donated to Special Olympics? None. God made people r3tarded because of the gays or something
  10. Oh, it's a "massive pedophilia ring" now? We've upgraded from one rapist to an entire ring of rapists? You really should report this to the authorities, Theo
  11. Nothing funnier than kiddie rape, I've always said
  12. You're really bad at this
  13. works for me.
  14. false equivalence is false
  15. Well, the president of the university is complicit, so let's expel every student at Penn State. I MEAN THE GUY COVERED FOR KIDDIE RAPE SO SOMETHING SOMETHING REVENGE! This is absolutely moronic lunacy you are talking about here. Nobody is calling for the players to be kicked out of school. They are talking about firing the coach, because, you know, he allowed a child rapist to rape children. sulley is calling for the entire coaching staff to be fired. that pretty much means no more football games (which, by the way, also screws Nebraska, Ohio State and Wisconsin)

  17. yes, without punishing 80+ innocent players as collateral damage
  18. THE ONLY JUSTICE IS TO KILL THE INNOCENTS! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODS!
  19. I'd be interested to hear how your opinions would change if it was your school that was going through this. I don't think you'd jump so quickly to destroying your athletic department
  20. There not evenly remotely close situations. no [expletive], really? I wasn't comparing the crimes, brainiac, I was comparing the fan reaction.
  21. sure, let them transfer
  22. so the football team, what, forfeits their last 3 games? tough to play with no coaching staff for athletic department who cares what they do? i mean, besides psu fans. football is not important here. I'm just laying out what is under consideration. Again, this would punish a bunch of kids who had nothing to do with any of this. Rash decisions seem imprudent if paterno himself were the rapist here, and it were proven that his staff all collaborated with him, would you keep them on for the last 3 games because the players don't deserve it? so we're dealing in hypotheticals now?

  25. I think you're going to see public sentiment (especially in PA) turn against Paterno as the days go by. I saw it here in Columbus with the Pryor/Tressell stuff. At first, it was pointing fingers away from the university and disbelief (including blind support for OSU), but as the facts came out and time wore on, the sentiment here turned from denial to anger to acceptance, and now most people are glad Pryor and sweater vest are gone
