  1. I didn't realize the Padres had signed Juan Gonzalez...
  2. The line on this game just went from 13 to 2 1/2, wuth oddsmakers citing "guaranteed low team morale"
  3. EDIT: Sorry, didn't look in Rivalries...thought this would be front page news...
  4. looks like that site doesn't like to hotlink
  5. I couldn't think of EVERYONE people!
  6. We get it, we get it, we're "all not that hot." So to balance out the Hottest Chick poll a little, I offer the "Ugliest Baseball Player" Poll. Vote now so we can see who, in God's great game of Genetics Hold 'Em, was dealt a 7-2 off suit. Your nominees: Zane Smith http://www.fsu.edu/~crimdo/images/pirates/zsmith.jpg John Candelaria http://www.rpspecialt.com/jc2247.jpg Dontrelle Willis http://www.baseball-photos.com/dontrelle3.jpg Gary Gaetti http://www.bestsportsphotos.com/images/baseball/gaetti-gary-slc-1.jpg David Weathers http://66.149.142.26/netplay/playerimages/David_Weathers.jpg Wille McGee http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/images/history/top100/pr_williemcgee.jpg Ezequiel Astacio http://www.terra.com.sv/addon/img/deportes/1324645ezequielp.jpg Julian Tavarez http://www.sean-o-meter.com/archives/Tavarez-thumb.jpg Jon Lieber http://mlb.mlb.com/chc/photo/2002_news/l/Lieber_Jon/0322Lieber_Jon288.jpg Brooks Kieschnick http://mas.scripps.com/CCCT/2005/04/08/p-5hooksb0408_e.jpg Brian Dowling http://home.paonline.com/crimedog/ncabl/1978/1978_world_series_preview_files/image002.jpg Mike Maddux http://www.lvrj.com/lvrj_home/1999/Dec-17-Fri-1999/photos/mike.jpg OR Write in your own. Provide a pic to support your case!
  7. No option for Arli$$?
  8. When you have an endless pool of minor league talent to fill your lineup holes with, it doesn't take a genius to win. His postseason managing, however, is atrocius. I can accept Guillen more, simply because he really made no managerial mistakes the entire post season. In the NL, I might have considered Frank Robinson or Ned Yost. In the AL, Mike Scoscia (sp?) or Eric Wedge.
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2218718 Wrong and also wrong
  10. McGee and John Candelaria were the missing links. Rivaled by Jon Lieber, Gary Gaetti and Zane Smith But I'll stop threadjacking this into another "Ugliest Ballplayer" discussioon
  11. That would be much better. I would be willing to pay $3-$5 a game if I can just watch them when I want/when I can instead of shelling out $150 for EI and missing half the games
  12. The NFL channel has everything but actual games
  13. Not anymore. Overpaying to bring back two players who sucked butt last year is asinine. A competent GM would have sent them a Christmas ham and wished them well in their pursuit of employment elsewhere
  14. I liked baseball a lot when I was in elementary school, especially when I lived in Racine in '81 and '82 (Robin Yount's Brewers went to the WS) I fell out of it while I grew up in State College, mostly because College Football is the big thing here and my friends all hated baseball I moved to Chicago in '92 for college, and at that time, Cubs games were a fairly cheap form of entertainment, and tickets were plentiful day-of-game. Plus, I started playin in sim leagues with fellow dorm-dwellers, which really gets you into stats and players. i've been a fan ever since
  15. quick, find me 3 other "backup" infielders making $2.5 mil/year And Dusty will insure this "backup" gets 500 plate appearances
  16. I see that the systematic rebuilding of a 79 win team has taken another step forward
  17. The kid next year is Anthony Morelli, a highly touted recruit who had verbally comitted to Pitt but then came to PSU instead. Paterno stupidly wasted a year on him by bringing him into a meaningless game last year, so he'll be a Junior in 2006. Still, that's 2 years with him and the freshman receiving corps (Williams, Butler, King). He's much more of a drop back, pocket passer. Robinson is a poor man's Vince Young/Marcus Vick, while Morelli is much more of a Peyton Manning style passer (and if he's 5% as good as Manning, we'll be in good shape)
  18. Those were two crappy teams that played that day. I never would have believed that we'd likely finish with a Big Ten record above .500 and Penn State would be talking BCS. Had PSU lost that game (to NU) they probably would've finished 7-4 or 6-5. I really believe that
  19. God forbid PSU play Miami. I hate Miami, and it's a great game in concept, but I think the Lions would get "Hokied" in the Orange Bowl
  20. Yes, and PSU is #3 overall by the computers, ahead of Bama and Miami
  21. no kidding! Wow, Miami is .0009 behind Alabama right now
  22. I think when the new standings come out today, you'll see Miami at #3
  23. Not important to the ACC title, but both teams are fighting for bowl eligibility
