  1. Good point....Good teams almost always take advantage of extra outs. I suppose you could turn that around and say they became a good team because they did well with all the extra outs. The Dye thing wasn't an extra out. Had it been called right, it would have still been 3-2 with 2 out. He might have walked on the next pitch. No way of knowing.
  2. True celebrity fans: Red Sox - Stephen King Yankees - Billy Crystal Cubs - Bill Murray Lakers - Jack Nicholson Knicks - Spike Lee
  3. :-({|= Sour Grapes
  4. "Chicago sports" fans buy that rubbish. "Cub" fans don't. How does it feel to be filled with so much hate and anger?
  5. I get this one all the time after I hit "Submit" Max connections per IP reatched, ( 8 ) please use fewer open windows I don't have many open windows. And reached is misspelled. What's the deal?
  6. Of course he was, the amount of sour grapes about the White Sox on this board is really dragging it down. The Sox are in the series, deal with it! Stop making a million posts trying to drag them down!
  7. Say what you will, but the Sox are truly playing championship baseball. As much as it hurts to say, I'm pretty sure the Cubs would have lost both of those games to the Astros. I hate the word "fate", but the Sox surely look like they have someone looking out for them (and don't say the umpires!)
  8. Sorry, but you are saying something. You can't start a thread smearing someone's name, then back off the claim and say you're not. So at this point, you are going to figure any player having a moment worth remembering in their career is in on steriods? No, just any player on a team he doesn't like accomplishing something special and memorable in a championship series.
  9. You want Rich Aurilia on the team so soon?
  10. The Cotts/Jenks 8th inning last night was hard to watch simply because I know there is no one in the Cubs pen who would have struck out the side with runners on 1st and 3rd and nobody out. The Sox pen is nails right now, the Cubs, not so much.
  11. Yes. Mexico City is at an altitude of over 6,000 ft. It would produce conditions more severe than Coors Field. Monterrey would be a much better choice. In my simleague, we had a minor league team in Mexico City for two years. The numbers were stupid good
  12. Don't fool yourself, if it was the Cubs in the series, they would spend 30 minutes on them
  13. Wait till basketball season. :( When Dee Brown and, um, wait, I know this one....oh well, Dee Brown will single handedly carry the Illini to 5th place in the Big Ten. I don't think we (and by we, I mean you, me and Truffle) should get involved in any college basketball smack talk considering that Dee Brown could probably singlehandedly beat Penn State. Penn State has a basketball team? My team is DePaul, who will likely be the PSU of the Big East.
  14. Or better yet, click all the ads, whether they interest you or not.
  15. The big difference was knocking 1.3 runs off the team ERA from 2004 to 2005 (and adding 20+ saves). Dou credit the new pitching coach, the defense, or a little of both?
  16. It's not about jumping onto any bandwagons or abandoning the Cubs. It's about wanting a great sports town to have a championship. If the Sox win, that's fine. It's out of my hands. Better than the Cards winnig. If they lose, no problem either. I'm basically indifferent, but won't jump off a bridge if the Sox win. As you said, it's a game Define yourself by what team you love, not what team you hate.
  17. Wait till basketball season. :( When Dee Brown and, um, wait, I know this one....oh well, Dee Brown will single handedly carry the Illini to 5th place in the Big Ten.
  18. St. Louis in the summer is about the worst place to be. No breeze, all asphalt, 110 degrees in the shade.
  19. Riggs and Baylor have coaching positions. I'd actually love to have him back. He was stuck with such total crap rosters while he was here (1998 the exception of course).
  20. I've been pro-15/15 for a while, with one interleague matchup going on at all times. I'd have the previous year's WS participants, and runners-up, play each other early in the season. With the previous season's cellar dwellers facing off at the end. I've backed a 15/15 with an uneven schedule spanning both leagues and eliminating the DH. The players Union would never ever eliminate the DH. That's 14 possible places an aging slugger can go and get one last payday. They might get rid of the DH if you expand rosters to 26 or 27 players.
  21. Why go to a World Series game and act like a Sox fan? Shouldn't Cubs fans have more dignity and respect than to act this way? I would go to a World Series game in an absolute heartbeat, regardless of who the teams are. And I wouldn't wear Cubs gear and harass people and get drunk and any number of the other asinine things people here have suggested. I know some might say "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," but I couldnt' lower myself to acting like a self-hating White Sox fan under any circumstances.
  22. In addition, Giles would cost us cash only, while Griffey would cost us players. I think that's a no-brainer.
  23. Nope, it comes up every time. This ain't the NFL boys.
  24. copycat! yes, i went back in my time machine to copy today's thread
